Rating: Summary: Laughing All The Way Review: Ellen takes life's situations and makes them her own in a very funny way. She brings to your attention everyday situations and makes you say "boy that is so true." She has a gift for making people laugh and that in itself is the best gift of all. Thank you Ellen for making me laugh.
Rating: Summary: The Funny Thing is.. It's Not Funny Review: Its not fresh, it's not funny, it's just lame. As a longtime fan, I was looking forward to listening to the audio book on a 6 hour road trip-- spent $30 on it. After just five minutes, and another forced 10 minutes to give it another chance, my friend and I realized that not only could we not continue listening to it, we couldn't even "recycle" it to a bed-ridden friend in need of some amusement. Pure dreck. How did this get published?Karen, San Francisco
Rating: Summary: One amazingly poor piece of writing Review: I found this book to be quite disappointing. I bought it for some light reading during a plane flight to Hawaii and pitched it after 3 chapters. The book has no substance and although it tries to be funny it comes off with zero humor. In fact, after deciding to stop reading it, the person next to me asked to see it. She browsed it for about 1/2 an hour, gave it back to me and said "in a word terrible." I have to believe that the *only* reason this book got published is because it was written by Ms. Degeneres. No one else would have been able to get this piece of babble past a junior editor.
Rating: Summary: Comedy Lite Review: The Funny Thing is that the book description above doesn't match the book at all. Oh, well. Ellen's humor is understated and quiet, so don't expect a lot of laugh-out-loud moments. This is more a smile-in-agreement-at-how-ridiculous-it-all-is sort of comedy. The Funny Thing Is . . . is a pleasant read, perfect to take on the airplane or at the Motor Vehicle Department. I hope she's busy writing her next book!
Rating: Summary: HBO Repeat Review: The book contains the same material as the HBO specials did. If you have seen them I wouldn't bother buying the book. If you haven't seen the specials then it is worth a laugh.
Rating: Summary: Terrible Review: The Funny Thing Is ,there's absolutely nothing funny about this book. It's just rambling about nothing. They should have called it The Boring Thing Is,This Book.
Rating: Summary: LIMP HUMOR! Review: WASTE YOUR MONEY AND BUY THIS BOOK- GO AHEAD! HOMOPHOBIC I'M NOT ALTHOUGH I DO BELIEVE THIS WOMAN HAS CHOSEN TO HAVE HER SEXUALITY AS HER MAJOR IDENTITY AND NOT HER COMEDY. AS SUCH I FIND HER HUMOR SECONDARY TO A CREEPY PERSONA.
Rating: Summary: ELLEN BOMBECK? Review: WOW! I did not know what to expect from this book when I bought in on AMAZON. I didn't know if it would be political or preachy. But I love Ellen Degeneres so I bought it. IMAGINE MY SURPRISE when this book reminded me of the late, great Erma Bombeck! By all appearances, Ellen Degeneres is ready to accept the crown for the new queen of written comedy. This fun book reminded me so much of Erma Bombeck... funny, simple circumstances that we can all relate to. Expertly written, THE FUNNY THING IS... had me laughing from cover to cover. 5 stars for sure... my recommendation? BUY IT NOW! You rock, Ellen!
Rating: Summary: Simply FUNNY Review: I read the entire book in one sitting with a huge smile on my face, and some parts were simply 'laugh hard funny'! Ellen manages to look at 'everyday things' and has given it her truly funny and cooky touch that one cannot help but laugh at. She talks about Call waiting, changing rooms, public bathrooms, microwaves, gift giving, how to choose what clothes to wear, how to get out of embarrasing situations and things we all come across everyday but never give more than a seconds thought to. She makes everything seem simply so funny that its a great book. I love the chapter on "Silence is golden". She talks about things that everyone can relate to which makes it one fun book. I am not a fan of her 'life style' besides what she does on her own is personal and none of anyones business and i am GLAD that she does not mention her personal likes and 'preferences' in the book. Which makes it something that i think anyone can relate to and definately find funny. If you want to relax, laugh, look at the lighter side of life and take 'a load off', this is the best book ever. Way to Go ellen, your the funniest person ever.
Rating: Summary: ELLEN IS A BORN WRITER-COMEDIAN, AU NATURELLE Review: The first time I saw Ellen, (I mean really first time as she was not my favorite at all due to her lifestyle), was on her movie, "Mr. Wrong." I was laughing alone in my living room just seeing her face and listening at her dialogue. From then on, I surf the net for books or tapes of her and I discovered her website. I tell you, she is the only actress-commedianne, who can make me laugh as I am pretty critical or choosy. Her book,"The Funny Thing Is..." is basically what it says. Her personality comes right through. Her talent in writing coupled with her inviting persona makes this book and all her works worth your time and effort and investment. After my favorite, Carol Burnett in the 70's, Ellen is my "Queen of Comedy of the Millenium". Hurray, Ellen. Keep it up. "The Funny Thing Is....." soars to the heights!
