Rating: Summary: Very funny... Review: Ellen Degeneres is back with a new book filled with her hysterical outlooks, this time on life, friends, prison life, romance, Sunday brunch and much, much more.Ellen has many laugh out loud moments in her new book such as her run-in with the law, her brunch with Paula Abdul, Diane Sawyer, Gloria Steinem, Donatella Versace, Eminem and surprise guests such as Sigfried or Roy (she's not sure which)... There are some very funny chapters including diary entries, a scientific treatise, penny-pinching, and one of my favorite chapters "it's just an expression"... here are some "Stop and smell the roses." Well, what if your allergic to Roses?, "Happy as a clam" Okay, if clams are so happy, then why do people "clam up" when they get mad? 'The Funny Thing Is' is so funny it will put a smile on your face. If you are a fan of Ellen Gegeneres you will love this book, and if you're not a fan you will be after reading this. Nick Gonnella
Rating: Summary: The thing is...this one¿s FUNNY! Review: For a knee-slapping good time, I always reach for the tried and true, and Ellen Degeneres has become that for me. I've been a fan of hers way before her popular TV sitcom, and own some of her stand-up comedy as well as her other book, My Point...and I Do Have One. And even though her writing isn't near as funny as her talking, I still find Ellen and anything Ellen-related top-notch comedy and will forever remain a fan. The Funny Thing Is... is a riot! There is no one who can make me laugh quite like Ellen. And her book, full of short chapters of meandering thoughts about nothing in particular, is Ellen at her best. I can hear her "voice" come off the pages, especially in the chapters about her dad, the tour of her home, and the blurb about the CD packaging. Fans of Ellen will no doubt laugh on every page and will feel that every penny spent on this book is definitely worth it.
Rating: Summary: A must read by the Queen of Comedy! Review: This book is filled with Ellen's trademark kookie observations. Warning: it's hard to stop laughing! This book along with Debbie Farmer's book "Don't Put Lipstick on the Cat!" And Bruce Cameron's "8 Simple Rules" makes a perfect "life" survival package.
Rating: Summary: Funny Review: Ellen's second book isn't much different from her first. In fact I think there were some jokes from the first one in this one, I'm not sure. It's another book that's basically a compilation of her latest stand up. If you've seen any of her HBO specials or anything you will know most of the jokes. But, while I'm still waiting for her to write something meatier, its still funny! And its still Ellen! And I love Ellen so if you do too then you'll love the book! And similarly to her first one its short. So you won't waste too much of your time even if you don't like it. I just don't know why she churned out another book recycling more of her stand up. You learn more about her and get more interesting stories watching her talk show. Her books are both fictional, silly stories. I just don't get why such a fabulous woman doesn't turn out a more fabulous book. At one point in the book she jokes that she considered titling the book simply "Funny" and I think that would of been best since that sums up the content. Nothing much but its all funny!
Rating: Summary: Where's the humor Review: About 3 lines that are really funny. Almost boring. Haven't seen her in real life, but I hope her shows are better than this book.
Rating: Summary: Is Ellen angry? Review: I have enjoy Ellen for years. I've seen her current show as well as her stand-up routine. This book has a feeling of anger to it that I don't usually associate with her. I kept reading hoping that the mood of the book would change but it didn't. I was disappointed in the book but still enjoy Ellen as a talk show host and performer.
Rating: Summary: Her Celebrity Witticisms are Among the Best Review: This book is wonderful. Realize that this is coming from someone who didn't care for ELLEN DEGENERES as an actress. However as an author she has created a wonderfully funny book. Her stream of conscious writing style and witticisms are just as RIKKI LEE TRAVOLTA's "MY FRACTURED LIFE" and STEVE MARTIN's "PLEASURE OF MY COMPANY." I'd even rank this a step up from AL FRANKEN'S "LIES AND THE LYING LIARS" because it is not as political.
Rating: Summary: THE FUNNY THING IS.....DeGENERES IS A GREAT...READ ! Review: This lady is smart. She uses humor as a tool to educate. Years ago, I purchased DeGENERES' book "MY POINT AND I DO..." and found myself laughing out loud during a long 12 hour plane ride (passengers and the cabin crew surrounding my seat questioned the state of my mental health). In this book, DeGENERES presents her opinions to readers. She gently approaches topics that we should examine and re evaluate during this grisly era in the Bush regime. She is a genius.....a remarkable author and great personality to admire.
Rating: Summary: Loved it ! Review: Yes Ellen rambles, but she has a point, most of the time. Even when she doesn't it's really entertaining ! That's the basis of Ellen's humor. I think the book is a very true reflection of her personality and humor as we know it. Very good read.
Rating: Summary: Sorry Ellen, Didn't Like it Review: I'm a fan of Ellen's and love most of the stuff she does on her TV show, but this book is a total waste of time. What a disappointment. VERY little of it got a chuckle out of me. There was one decent chapter, but I can't remember which one it was. I'd love to be able to give Ellen a glowing review, but I'd be fibbing!
