Summary: A novel which defines a generation
Review: The World According to Garp is a novel unlike any other. Lots of novels try to evoke emotion in the readers, but this novel is truly sad, laugh-out-oud funny, incredibly poignant and tragic. It is an outrageous story realistically told. It established John Irving as one of the most prominent novelists of his generation, and it added two phrases to our colelctive cultural vocabulary -- the Undertoad and the Pension Grillparzer. The beauty of the novel, in my opinion, is that everyone has lived the experiences that Garp has, and nobody has lived the experiences that Garp has. As a character he is both easy to identify with and difficult to get to know. The cast of supporting characters - - Jenny Fields, Roberta Muldoon, Jenny, etc, will leave you cheering. It is a slice of a life tht nobody has ever been fortunate enough to have lived.

Summary: the greatest novel about real life!
Review: wow, i was so shocked when i read this novel. John Irving is a very interesting writer. i new nothing of the book until my teacher recommended it. I laughed and cried all at the same time. This novel made me think about life and then i related it to other mediums and forms. John Irving wrote about a person's life in great detail. We don't see that unless it is a life of some kid that lives in a huge apartment in NYC and makes no money. this was a real story. i can see why some people didn't like it, it is disturbing in a way, but life is. those are the people that ignore the bad things and live their merry life. i take a look at the world and know we live it accordingly! T.S Garp is a character that will live with me forever! read this book if you haven't! :)

Summary: Still searching for the genius
Review: Firstly I read Widow for a year. Hmmm ..not so bad, not so good. I paid a look to the reviews and many of them said: The greatest Irving appears in The world According to Garp. Iread it and I'm still looking for the greatest.

Summary: Classics
Review: This is a classic, a must read for absolutely everyone. With that book, Irving established himself as a monument in literary history. "Garp" is complex. Do not try to read if you like easy literature. I have so many comments, that I find it difficult to say anything about this book. This is what often happens to me. If I really love some piece of literature or music, I can't say a word, although I have a lot to say. Well, is it a good enough recommendation to encourage you to read this giant book? I doubt so, but believe me, that if I were able to, I would write all I can to make you read it.

Summary: The best novel of the past 50 years
Review: If there is a better novel than John Irving's "The WorldAccording to Garp" I have yet to find it. This is a classic ofAmerican literature, the life story of a man from birth to death. Both political and personal, "Garp" wrestles with issues like parenthood, sexuality, infidelity, feminism, sexual violence, mother-son relationships, literature, and an artist's responsibility to both society and self. It is quite funny, and beautifully written. Irving's prose is as polished as a diamond. Simple yet exquisite. It can be enjoyed as both literature and a "popular" novel. A synopsis of the plot would be meaningless because, while there is indeed a great "page-turner" of a story, it is the way Irving writes that makes Garp so special. This should be read by everyone who cares about fiction.

Summary: John Irving's Best
Review: I am an avid John Irving fan, and to me there is no doubt that this is his finest work. The plot is wild and imaginative, but it's the characters that make the book. They are all quirky and memorable and loveable. I definitely recommend this book.

Summary: Words Can't explain this book
Review: It was absolutly magnificent! It's about a father's fears of the world. And it didn't portray any of the characters as being good or bad the were all just unique. I was left with my mouth gaping through out the whole book. You need patience to read this book however. I'm not saying it's not a page turner bc it defintly is. But it's a novel inside a novel. I found it to be very enjoyable and was written with a very good pace.

Summary: Texas reader
Review: How often it happens to many of us, readers. You start the book without any expectations and soon you are hooked, enthralled, captured and... grateful for the new discovery of yet another angle on life, love, truth, etc. You race to read other books by the same writer - he/she become your intimate friend. This is the ultimate joy of reading!

I am off to read other books by John Irving!

Summary: Very Cool
Review: This was a good book. It was a moving plot, and Irving gives his characters depth and meaning. It offers many unique and opnionated views about feminism, and women in today's and yesterday's society. He makes you connect to the people in his book. It kicks some serious tush.
