Rating: Summary: Beautiful and illustrative story Review: I love David Baldacci and he has become one of my favourite authors to keep me in thrilling suspense. Wish You Well was a departure from his normal genre, and he did an EXCELLENT job. I really related to the characters who were complex and well-developed. I laughed and cried while reading this book and really felt the emotion that was pouring from the pages. This book is a classic and will stay on my bookshelf forever. Thanks for a wonderful read, David!
Rating: Summary: What a GREAT book! Review: I throughly enjoyed this book when I first read it, then I listened to it on tape with my sons and loved it all over again. I strongly recommend this book to both adults and children. Excellent choice for a family road trip book on tape. With the obvious comparision to Grisham's change-of-pace "A Painted House", this book is head and shoulders above it. Baldacci's characters are vivid and memorable. I'll probably read it again in a few years and expect that it will stand the test of time.
Rating: Summary: The author should stick to mysteries. Review: This book is about as far as you can get from Baldacci's other works. I found the story very slow moving. The narrator is a sure cure for insomina. I will never again listen to anything she reads. The ending of this book is so unrealistic that it defies any possible logic. Yet the way the story was written, this ending was telegraphed about one quarter into the book. Don't waste your time with this one.
Rating: Summary: Maybe a good children's book--maybe Review: This book was simplistic, unrealistic and predictable. Maybe I kept comparing it to John Grisham's THE PAINTED HOUSE which I read a few weeks ago. Maybe I kept comparing it to any good book. Come on now, happily skipping out to the barn in their flour sack clothes to milk a sick cow! Obviously Baldacci never experienced wearing something out of flour sacks or dealing with a sick cow.
Rating: Summary: Absolutely Wonderful!!! Review: A dear friend gave me this book to read. I was a bit apprehensive because it wasn't my type of read. I decided to read it out of politeness. I was so glad that I did. Will say that it is a top 10 on my list. Being from the mountains of Virginia, I could relate to a lot of the book. I enjoyed it so much that I bought it for myself and bought my boyfriend's grandmother a copy as well. She enjoyed it so much she passed it to her sister who passed it to her daughter who passed it to her daughter. Everyone loved it!
Rating: Summary: Awful Book, Mediocre Narration Review: See the reviews section the actual book Wish You Well for my review of the content. The narrator of Wish You Well, apparently, has never been to Appalachia. Her Appalachia accent is appalling and inconsistent, and sounds more like its from Louisiana. Occasionally she forgets which character she is doing (at one point, she uses her voice for a 12 year old girl when she is supposed to be doing a grown man).
Rating: Summary: Just a Nice Nice Novel! Review: I loved this book! I found myself really caring about what happens to the characters. Several times I found myself dabbing my eyes, it made me cry! Very moving novel. It was a good break from my murder mystery kick. I would really like to see this made into a movie. It's about love, faith, hope, and the human Spirit. It is a super summertime read. If you just want a nice novel with characters that tug at your heart - read this! Oh! And David is a fantastic writer too. I mean reaaaal good! I liked this book so much I went out and purchased all of his books. I'm hooked!
Rating: Summary: Best Book I've Read This Year Review: Never having been a fan of David Baldacci's courtroom/suspense books, I picked up Wish You Well on a whim. There is only one word to describe this incredible read---lovely. I felt as though I were living there on the farm with all of those very likable and believable characters. Would I ever love a sequel---how about it, Mr. Baldacci?
Rating: Summary: Gene Stratton Porter for the new century! Review: What a great book! It is reminisent of Gene Stratton Porter's books of the 1940's. I remember when my mother read those books to me and I get the same wonderful feeling reading Wish You Well. It is truly Gene Stratton Porter for a new century!
Rating: Summary: An Interesting Book for Both Young People and Adults! Review: Wish You Well immediately captures the flavor of the South and the mountain region of the setting. The characters are authentic and the plot develops along at a steady pace. The children are important and the events that occur develop around them. Although having to cope with loss, sacrifices, and a new way of life living with their great-grandmother in a mountainous area, still primitive by "city-life" standards, the children adjust and adapt until the final outcome is reached. There is a satsfying ending to the book. For a pleasant and enjoyable read about life in the l940's in this locale, Wish You Well is the book.
