Summary: 1984 Rocked
Review: 1984 is a timeless classic and was an extraordinary book. While it did get a little dull at times the book was extremely interesting throughout the whole book. Just trying to imagine myself living in a place and time like that was pretty difficult. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and reccommend it to anyone who would likes classic books with a different twist.

Summary: intriguing distopia
Review: This is a great book, I have to say. It's not very long, but there's alot in it. It an almost science-fiction, it was written about 1984 in the future. The government was completely in control of everyone's life. So it gives a very interesting view of the world, something everyone should read. It won't take you long, but it's necessary.

Summary: Deviates corrected for their own good
Review: In a society that has eliminates many imbalances, surplus goods, and even class struggle, there are bound to be deviates; Winston Smith is one of those. He starts out, due to his inability to doublethink, with thoughtcrime. This is in a society that believes a thought is as real as the deed. Eventually he graduates through a series of misdemeanors to illicit sex and even plans to overthrow the very government that took him in as an orphan.
If he gets caught, he will be sent to the "Ministry of Love" where they have a record of 100% cures for this sort of insanity. They will even forgive his past indiscretions.

Be sure to watch the three different movies made from this book.

Summary: Great book
Review: This novel is an excellent book that deserves all the credit is has gotten. The intricate main character, Winston, can relate to many of us, as he hates many things of the world. He is, obviously, in a different situation than us, but the theme of the books entiretly is an excellent lesson for us all. I reccommend it 100%!

Summary: Everyone Must Read This
Review: My brother isn't a person who reads so when he proudly told me he finished 1984, and that I MUST read it, I decided to try it.

I was caught up in this book very quickly and I found myself reading it at work. I couldn't put it down. The story is frightening, especially when you think about some of our current issues such as "Homeland Security", and the new measures the government is taking to "protect" us. Given the current situation in this country I think it is essential to read 1984. This book has made me rethink somethings.

Summary: 1984, Past, Present, or Future
Review: 1984 is the story of the main charcter ( Winston) and his life living under the control of Big Brother. Big Brother is the "governmental" power of the time. The main slogans of the party are: War is Peace, Freedom is Slavery, and Ignorance is Strength. Throughout the book it becomes evident that the party trully believes these staements and does not let anyone else believe otherwise. We see Winston's stuggle with self control and how his meeting with Julia is what evintually takes him down. His feelings fo sin for her and his hatred of just about everything destroys him. He and Julia have several encounters and are eventually caught and only after denouncing Julia is Winston treated fairly. In the end Winston gives in and submits to the growing and ever controling power of Big Brother.

My own feelings:
This book is certainlly a strange one. In the beggining it makes you think that it is about a lunatic who wants physical attention. But then you realize that he is misguided and that ifhe would not have been corrupted by Big Brother and given some rights he wouldn't have rebelled.

Summary: Very Unique!
Review: 1984, there isn't anything too exciting about that title. Why would you buy a book called 1984? I'll tell you why. Because 1984 is a very unique and interesting book. It has a very different idea of how the author (George Orwell) thought the year 1984 was going to be like. Though we know how 1984 really was, it is still very interesting. This book follows a man named Winston and the horrible conditions he and the world are living in. Could the world turn into something this horrible? Telescreens everywhere, watching everything you do? Thought Police out to get you? It sure makes you wonder. It's almost... scary.

Summary: A deep reading
Review: First of all, I would like to say that I dont usually read 'fiction' books... but this one is not really fiction ...
I think you understood the main part of the story from the other reviews already...
According to me, this novel really makes you think about the world we are living in ..when discussing with friends about '1984', they told me that this book represents our future ... but I have the feeling that there is already some truth in this novel ...
When G. Orwell writes about the control of the history, and the publications .. I see some parallelism with the way our medias are controlled as well ..
This book really makes you think.. that s what I liked about it...

Summary: One of the most memorable novels of the 20th century
Review: Its not often books like this come around and leave you up countless nights worrying about what this world will come to. 1984 may be a mainstream classic, but very seldom do we read a book (especially being a fiction piece) that is this creative, and this frightening. It came out in a time in history where Britain & the U.S. were terrified of communism. And many felt the Soviet Union was headed in this direction. Who knows? Maybe a revolution will occur and a powerful dictatorship will conquer our American soil and we will all be brainwashed and speak another language that is designed to make you think like everybody else does. This is the pure beauty about this book. It leaves your imagination running wild. Its simply a paramount in literature. Id also recommend a book called ''Anthem'',which was written before 1984.

Summary: Book Review of "1984"
Review: "1984" is a classic novel that centralizes around the theme of what happens when human civilization has lost its innate, human qualities and is predestined to have its individuality debased even more. The author, George Orwell, conveys this throughout the context of the book by showing that the government controls virtually every aspect of human life. The main character is Winston Smith, and he is a slightly rebellious and wondering adult who questions the validity of past events and the overall value of human life.

On a scale of one to ten, I would probably rate the book an "eight" because it is a very captivating novel to explore the depths of human thought and fictionalized imagination. However, the concepts are slightly difficult to comprehend, so a person who understands the concepts of utopia would really understand the plot. I would recommend this novel to people who enjoy reading other pieces of literature by George Orwell (such as "Animal Farm" and the essay "Shooting an Elephant") because it is yet another book Orwell probes the concepts and ideas of civilization and government, and the results of corruption. I must mention that Orwell uses a direct and rebellious tone, as the plot is in perspective to the third person point of view of Winston Smith. He uses interesting diction as Orwell assumes that the reader knows the order of society in "1984." It also contains a lot of detail and imagery as he continuously describes the atmosphere of futuristic society.
