Rating: Summary: excellent and yet even better! Review: Lemony Snicket just made the series of Unfortunate Events even better with Brett Helquist creative illustrations and her own plot of the story!Miserable Mill is another one of miserable tales that the Baudelaires give us.The Baudelaires were transfered in a factory where they have to work rather than to be treated as children. It's one of my favorite in Lemony's series of unfortunate events!
Rating: Summary: The Baudelaire Children are in trouble Review: The Miserable Mill was one of the best Baudelaire book that Lemony Snicket has written. He has great pictures at the title of the chapters and does great handwriting.Snicket is the best author that has ever made books. I just hope the orphans will live their lives, get rid of Count Olaf's plan to steal their money and hopefully, get him into one of the baddest places he could think of--jail.
Rating: Summary: The Miserable Mill-Book Review Review: There are three unfortunate children named Violet, Claus, and Sunny who are being chased by an evil man named Count Alof who wants to steal their fortune after their parents had died in a fire. Violet, the oldest, is waiting to inherit the fortune while a banker named Mr. Poe holding it for them. After their last legall gaurdian had been murdered by Count Olaf, Mr. Poe is taking them to another gaurdian in a small town called Palltryville. Violet, an inventor, is the oldest Baudelaire who takes care of her two siblings. Claus, the second oldest, is a researcher and the only boy between the three children. The third and youngest sibling is a baby who's hobby is to bite things. They all glumly went to Paltryville, expecting more unfortunate events, usually worse then before. When the children got to Paltryville, they found themselves in front of a sign that read "Lucky Smells Lumbermill", and their gaurdian owned the Lumbermill. HE perferred hois name as Mr. Sir, and he had a buisness partner named Charles, who was very nice. The three children were to work there, and their first work-day there was horrible. They were waken up early in the morning by a man in a surgeon mask, and he ordered all the workers there. By the end of the day, The children were exhausted after working from dawn to dusk with a peice of gum for lunch. For their salary, they got paid coupons to hospitals, markets, shops, and many other places. The next day, as they went to work, the masked man tripped Claus, and his glasses broke. He went away to the optomist, and he came back at midnight. He strangely obeyed every command like a zombie. The next day, he destroyed a machine on accident, and he suddenly came back to his senses. The masked man insantly tripped him again after blaming him for the damage.Claus's glasses broke once more, and he was sent to the optomist again, this time with his two sisters who insisted on going with him. On the way there, they figured out that Claus had been hypnotized. He was hypnotized once more, and Violet read a book that said that you could unhypnotized someone by saying a certain word outloud. Violet found out the word and unhypnotized him, just as Mr. Sir came in and saw what was happening, and he called Mr Poe. They found Count Alof duisguised as Sharon, a receptionist for the optomist, who was also working with Count Alof. They also found out that the masked man was one of Count Alof's assistants. They unfortuneantly managed to escape, and The children and everybody else sadly watched them go. I think that this book is unhappily humorous, and it is very mysterious. You always and constantly want to know what happens next, and it is somehow funny, altough the three children are treated badly. The whole series all have a bad ending, and Count Alof always escapes.
Rating: Summary: Glad it's not happening to me Review: The 4th book in the series did not let me down. As Unfortunate as the lives of these poor children are, you can't help but giggle at some parts. Sonny is my favorite of the 3 orphans. How can anyone resist a "buck tooth baby"? This wasn't my favorite of the first 4 books, but it was still wonderful. Will they ever catch that evil Count Olaf?! I certainly hope so.
Rating: Summary: Angus's Review Review: When I started to read the Miserable Mill I thought it was the most unluckiest book yet. Surely the Baudelaires together would be able to know Count Olaf was something to do with the Eye shaped Building. But what I can't understand is why they didn't keep quiet about them knowing the receptionist Shirley was Count Olaf in disguise because they would probably escape from staying with her when Sir asked them If they want to stay with her. This book was exceptionally good because with the help of Lemony Snicket's brilliant descriptions this book described everything to make my brain create the pictures easily.
Rating: Summary: Great book for children Review: The series of the Unfortunate Events books are exceptional books for children, especially ages 10-15. The Miserable Mill is a continuation of Snicket's brilliant series of the unlucky Baudlaire children. It begins warning you to not read this book if you are in search of a pleasant book to read with a happy ending, and believe me, you should take its word! The Baudlaire children are headed on their way to one of their many guardians house, and encounter on many disastrous adventures while working at the Lucky Smells Lumber Mill. Read this book if you are not interested in a serious reading!
Rating: Summary: The Miserable Mill Review: In this book I thought that it was good and that time when Violet did the research on hypnosis when she liked to invent things. When Klaus invented that thing with the gum and saved Charles from death even though Klaus like reading insted of making inventions. My favorite part was when Sunny was fighting with Dr.Orwell. It was cool how Sunny kept blocking Dr.Orwell's sword with her teeth. The book was exciting and I hope the other ones are too.
Rating: Summary: Adam Review: I am reading a series of books called, A Series Of Unfortunate Events. I am on the fourth book, called The Miserable Mill. These books are great! I really got into them! I just can't stop reading them. There are two things I really like about these books: the character names and the exciting plot. All of these books are really cool because the author puts in really cool character names, like the three main characters, which are Violet, Klaus, and Sunny. I also like how the three children look out for each other. And my favorite parts are their really cool adventures. These three children lost their mom and dad in a fire, and have been sent to their relative Count Olaf. But some bad things happened to the children when Count Olaf was taking care of them. So the three children went to someone else that would take care of them, and now they're being taken care of at a lumber mill factory. These books aren't just for kids, anyone can enjoy them! Rating: Summary: Clever as always, but getting repetitive Review: My eight year old son and I have read the first three but are both finding it more difficult to continue with this series. While as an adult I can plough through in a couple of hours fueled by sheer curiousity, my son remains unmotivated on this one. After reading the first 8 or so chapters, he claims this book has gotten "boring." Apparently he had hoped for a new villain to make it more interesting. While you will still find the usual wit, oddball characters and hair-raising conclusion (as well as some hilarious commentary on mimes) I do wish Lemony had tried to add some new themes or evolve the characters just a bit. Doesn't this baby every grow? However, I am still curious enough to read the next one and find out.
