Rating: Summary: Couldn't put it down! Review: Being in my late 20's and having done my fair share of babysitting, I laughed and connected so well with "Nanny" that I can't wait for a second book to continue her story! I also listened to the Book on Tape, read by Julia Roberts which was fantastic as well. Defnitly worth reading!
Rating: Summary: Should be read at least 2X, before having kids and after Review: I thoroughly enjoyed the book. I found it frustrating b/c I know people like Mrs. X. All I could think about was an employer I had back while in college. I think there are problems with the book like characters that are there but don't really need to be b/c all they do is destract and you wonder where it goes, but I will give it a 5 b/c I still think everyone should read this book before having kids and should read it twice after having them.
Rating: Summary: Witty observations but no character development or plot Review: I have very mixed feelings about this book. After reading the first couple of chapters I was raving about how clever the observations and style were. But by two thirds of the way through I wanted to stop reading. There were no plot twists and there was no character development--I kept waiting for something to happen, but it never did. In the story the main character is treated poorly, whines but does nothing about it, is treated poorly again and then complains some more. Over and over again. That is basically the book. It starts out with so much potential and then just fizzles into a frustrating repetitive disappointment.
Rating: Summary: This was a little TOO over-the-top. Review: I was really looking forward to reading this book, I had heard a lot of good buzz about it. I am sorry to say that it ended up as a somewhat disappointing experience for me. Yes, I can see the humor in it all, but I feel that the extreme exaggerations went too far. I feel it could have been funny, maybe even funnier, if some of the characters had been toned down just a notch or two.
Rating: Summary: Stick with the unabridged version! Review: When I decided to try this book I went with the abridged audio version, just because it would be easier to get through. I enjoyed it. Then I noticed people and events mentioned in the other reviews I didn't recall from the story. I decided to see how the novel itself differed. Major Difference! Significant parts of the story were omitted from the audio version. Characters and events that really added to the story were just not there. I Don't know how much the abridged version differs from the unabridged version with other novels, but in this case it is best to get the whole story. It's well worth it.
Rating: Summary: Nanny Nanny Two By Four Review: As the son of wealthy parents who was raised by a nanny (Franny!), I feel compelled to comment on this fast-paced dual-authored rollercoaster romp through the lives of the rich, spoiled, and famous. My tyranical parents bossed Franny around from the onset and treated her much as these authors were allegedly treated by their employers. It's a shame children have to be raised by employees of their parents, but heck, it could be a lot worse. And Franny got her revenge when she deflowered me in the backseat of Daddy's Beamer for my sixteenth birthday.
Rating: Summary: The Nanny Diaries made me laugh so hard I cried! Review: "The Nanny Diaries" is the perfect book if you need a ood laugh!! It is about a young city girl, named "Nanny", who is a college student. She has just been hired to take care of Grayer, the son of Mr. and Mrs. X. Grayer doesn't like Nanny at first, but soon grows to have fun with her and think of her as his "second mom". Nanny learns alot about taking care of children in this book and has a few wild adventures at the playground and while giving Grayer a bath. She even gives Grayer his lunch while he is taking his bath!! This book is absolutely adorable and will have anyone who reads it falling out of their chair. This book is the modern-day story of a young woman in New York City who has been hired as a nanny. After reading this book, the position as a nanny won't seem as easy as it looks anymore, I promise!! This is by far the funniest book I've ever read. I couldn't put it down.
Rating: Summary: I can't get this book out of my head! Review: I ignored my husband last night in order to finish this book! We're newlyweds and happy, so this says a lot for the book. I simply could not put it down. I did laugh a lot but mostly I was heartsick at the callousness and emptiness found in the X's home. Money definetely doesn't make you happy. This book is an indictment about a very select group of society. After all, most of us cannot afford around the clock care for our children, along with French lessons, etc. However, I do think there is something to be gleaned from this for any parent or parent to be. I highly recommend this book. It's entertaining and just a really good read.
Rating: Summary: A perfect read! Review: This is brilliantly successful satire. McLaughlin and Kraus are spot-on in their depiction of both the characters and (especially) their milieu. In fact, it's a little scary just how well they capture the world of the Park Avenue rich. (My only reservation about the book: if you're not from New York, you might not really "get" a lot of the references. Or worse, not believe that the people and places really exist as depicted. BUT THEY DO!) Funny, brash and ultimately very, very moving. Julia Roberts has bought the movie rights. She's too old for Nanny, but might make a very interesting Mrs. X.
Rating: Summary: Compelling and sad Review: I wasn't sure exactly what to expect with this book, so I was quite surprised. It was definitely a compelling read - I finished it in a day - but no one prepared me for the sucker-punch ending. I knew it was coming, and you'll know it too, but it was still enough to take the wind out of me. I spent the next day cherishing my own tykes and thankful that the world of museum homes and therapy shopping is so far removed from my world of peanut butter facials and messy playrooms.
