Summary: Disappointing book!
Review: I couldn't get beyond Mrs. X contining to take advantage of Nanny and Mrs. X's outrageous demands on Nanny to even care about Nanny or Grayer (child supposed to be cared for). Most of the book is Nanny complaining about Mrs X's demands then making up excuses about why she should accomodate them for Grayer's sake. By the end, I felt like Nanny deserved all the rotten treatment because she took it. Overall, I'm frustrated the book never got better & I wasted time reading it. I'll never waste my time reading another book by these authors.

Summary: Great, especially if you're a New Yorker
Review: If you've ever walked through the Upper East Side and spotted a five year old dressed in his private school uniform carrying a lacrosse stick, you'll understand that people like the X'es really do exist. The people decked out in designer bests at Tiffany's and Bergdorf's and Barney's with their minority caretakers in tow walk the streets of Manhattan every day.

This book was very funny. I started reading it last night and finished it tonight.

Summary: Wow!
Review: I lasted all of four months as a nanny whose responsibilities came to mirror, almost to a T the responsibilities, dumped upon Nanny in "The Nanny Diaries." As I read, I found all the old resentments coming back almost as if I were reliving the experience. Hats off to someone finally breaking the silence! The fictional Nanny handled it all much, much better than I did.

Summary: Totally Addictive
Review: I read this book while it was on my wife's "to read" table and with her permission. I read it in one day if starting around 2 PM and finishing around midnight count as a day. I could not put it down and I was sorry when it was finished. I wanted it to go on.

This look into the wierd, but for them normal, world of the very wealthy who live on the island of Manhatten, should be pause for concern amongst those of us who have been raised by our parents, sent to public schools and more or less believed that is how it is generally done.

The child in this case is a four year old by the name of Grayer. We ae never told how he gets this unusual name, but we assume it has family roots attached. Grayer, is a somewhat spoiled, somewhat screwed up litle boy when the protagonist of the novel is hired to be his "nanny" during the normal 8-5 day of the city dweller. However, as "Nanny" quickly learns, she is there as much to protect Greyer from the rules and regulations of his overbearing mother as anything else.

It is sad to think that the children of the very rich in this country are raised in such a defective cocoon, but reading about it is as fascinating as I can possibly describe.

What makes the book is how the authors describe the experience. There is little I can say to prepare you for it, except to cite the old Bette Davis chestnut, "Fasten your seat belts, it's going to be a bumpy ride." This was one of the most fascinating books I have read in some time. If you are looking for a book that will carry you away for a bit, teach you about a segment of society you are unlikely to ever be a part of and entertain your thoroughly in the process, this is your book. Buy it. Read it. Love it. Loan it.

Summary: i liked it....
Review: I have to admit, the first time that i saw this book, it didn't seem like it would be the type of book that i would want to read. However, after reading a couple reviews... i thought it was worth a shot. I found that it was a very good, book, i was thrown in at once because the authors were very smart in giving the story a quick start instead of the slow boring and pointless ones i usually find myself suffering. The characters were incredibly believable, Grayer was most definitely my favorite. my heart went out to this fictional boy who needed attention more than the "I'd prefer it if Grayer did not eat in his room" comments that Nanny was getting so often. Although i would have liked to kill the Xes, somehow, (not to be stereotypical of Park Avenue families or anything) through out the entire book, i felt the strongest sense of pity for them because they were too blind to notice their surroundings especially their own child. This story opened the taboos of hired help, that sometimes, they're just there to keep the children preoccupied instead of letting the grow with their own family.

Summary: Good read
Review: This is one of those books that you will read and read and then be dissapointed because you finished it and you ahve nothing left to read.
I think it is well written, very humorous. I would reccomond this book to anyone.

Summary: Not an Exciting Diary
Review: Everyone said this book was great, so maybe my expectations were too high. I kept waiting for something to happen, for Nanny to get even or something, but it never did. This is, as the book's title suggests, a diary. You read Nanny's day to day tribulations and sometimes something interesting happens, but not often enough.

Summary: Bring on the Copycats
Review: The authors have done their share of nannying and turned their tenure into the fictional story of the trials of a young college student, "part-time" (if you can count the occasional 80 hour week as part-time) nanny and primary care-giver to a 4 year-old who is at times highly huggable and is at times also highly annoying. In other words-he's a normal child. Rich in those details of New York City upper class shopping and dining seen from the person who gets to make the reservations and pick up the purchases without, for the most part, ever getting to actually eat and shop there, our heroine is just trying to make money to pay her rent and then seriously gets involved in the life of her young charge. With occasional glimpses into her college student life, her major is in the area of child-care, more frequent glimpses into her home life and attempts at romance, it is also the story of a young woman in New York City, not just her life as a nanny. I fully expect to see a television series based on the Nanny although it may not play well in the sticks. There are many references to NYC area restaurants, shops and other locations and I wonder if a person who is not familiar (I used to live in NYC) with New York City from other than television and movies would enjoy or "get" them.

I enjoyed reading the book, got wistful for the smells of New York and hope the authors write another book soon.

Summary: I want to throw Mrs. X through a window
Review: After reading this novel I can't beleave the number of emotions I felt. However, the prevailing emotion was intense rage. It was not only reading about the fictional rich people in the book, it was much more about that these people are real and there are too many of them. At first I was also mad at the authors for putting together a composite of a totally weak character in Nanny. However, the day after finishing this book I realized how real this scenario was and it would happen just like this. The thing that keeps the whole thing plausable is the little boy. It is obvious that the Nanny authors love these little kids and it is all about them. Note: spoiler coming, The scene at the end when Nanny lets loose in the video and then redoes it with a toned down version, ultimately was the most real moment in the entire book. It is a final statement about that you can really do nothing with these unbeleavably hateful people. However, it doesn't stop me from wanting to do some serious harm to them.

Summary: Excellent!
Review: This book was given to me by a friend and I probably wouldn't have picked it up on my own. But, I loved it. The book was sadly funny - depending on who you care about in the story. If you care about the X's then you'd probably think that this book was sad, as their marriage is failing, he's having an affair, and the poor kid is bound to be in therapy for life. But, if you're rooting for Nanny, then this book is humerous, and portrays a strong woman character who is very realistic and sassy!
I identified with Nanny in many ways, even though I have never been a nanny!
I highly recommend this book. Also, I think it's similar in style to Good in Bed by Jennifer Weiner - the character of Nanny has the same kind of energy, humor, and strength. So, if you liked Good in Bed, pick this up...
