Summary: Totally Riveting!
Review: The author paints a vivid picture of life in NYC from the other side of the income fence; the lavishness alongside the insensitivity, extravagance in exchange for human emotion. I laughed, I cried, I could barely put the book down. An easy and fun read!

Summary: Great read
Review: I read this book in one sitting. It was a very well-told story; sad, funny and gripping. Some parts made me really angry. I cried in the end. I highly recommend this one.

Summary: Light fun Read, but falls a little flat
Review: The Nanny Diaries was a light read that took me about an afternoon to finish. The story of a NYU student and Nanny in Manhatten kept my intrest, but fell a little flat.

My main complaint is the character names; Nanny, Mr. and Mrs.X. If this is fiction then give the characters names. My other complaint is the hipocracy of Nanny. She is annoyed with the materialism she witnesses, but loves the Prada shoes she is given and falls for a Harvard Hottie. Nanny is striving to become the Xes.

Although, I have complaints I did enjoy this book as a guilty pleasure.

Summary: LOVED IT!!
Review: I couldn't put this book down. It has a funny, down to earth style that makes it extremely addictive. You will not be disappointed if you buy this book, and it's a must to share with others. I look forward to any other books the authors put out. I'm not going to bother actually reviewing the story, because "Stacey M." did a thorough, fine job of that. I'm just giving it two thumbs up!

Summary: For the babysitters
Review: What are the rich NYers REALLY like? We want to know; the nannies have the dirt. Entertaining and light-hearted, read this one on the train or on the beach.

Summary: Great beach read
Review: I finished this book in five hours - splitting my time between the beach and an airplane. It is fast-paced, easy to read, (almost sophomoric!), and honestly, just plain fun. The authors include humor wherever they can, yet nothing feels forced. After having to read Lukacs, Henry James, and Gertrude Stein for class, this book was very refreshing.

Summary: a great read, unless ...
Review: ... you're a snobbish, overindulgent, self-centered New York City parent.

This book has it all -- great characters, crackerjack writing and funny episodes that will have you laughing out loud.

It's hard to believe people like Mr. and Mrs. X, who have hired the heroine/narrator Nanny to watch over their young child, actually exist. Their interest in their child is expressed by purchasing nanny-cams and problem consultants instead of actually spending any time with their son.

The authors' Nanny character reports on all this and more in an amusing, witty style that make this book lots of fun.

Summary: People actually think this is a 5 star book????????????????
Review: This book was an easy read, I will give you that....

It's about a nanny that gets a job working with a very rich family. Everything imaginable that is negative is dished out to the Nanny. This nanny is perfect, but she has no backbone.

I would love to see a Mommy Diary... from the Mom's perspective. There are always 2 sides to a story.

Summary: Vivid Bad Guys, Boring Good Guys
Review: This book is worth reading for the depiction of the villain, a shallow rich woman who finds her own child as repulsive as shopping at K-Mart. The type of person Tom Wolfe previously characterized as the "social x-ray," this resident of New York City's upper East Side would seem to be an unbelievable caricature to someone who has never met her. Sad to say, I babysat evenings for some D.C. cousins of these social x-rays when I was young, and can vouch for what the authors describe--the immaculate home that is mostly off limits to potentially messy children, the social and professional activities that consume people in place of any family life, the contempt for persons in service jobs (even if that service is raising your own kid). The authors have truly nailed their villain, and in observing her desperation as she deals with a philandering husband, they even humanize her to a degree. The villain's poor little boy also is quite real, and you truly feel for him when you learn of the life he has had to endure. However, all of the other characters are lifeless and inauthentic. Moreover, no great wit or sparkling writing is to be found, probably because the book was written by a committee of two. "The Nanny Diaries" is valuable mainly as a work of sociology rather than as a piece of literature. It could have been better, but is still worth your while.

Summary: fun, entertaining
Review: i thought this book was a quick and easy read. I especially enjoyed the detailed descriptions of the parents form hell. I could actually conjure up a vision in my mind. I would definately recommend this book if you want to be entertained.
