Summary: Couldn't put the Nanny Diaries down
Review: Given to me by a friend because I employ a part time Nanny, I was almost afraid to read what I might be doing wrong in the eyes of my Nanny. Quite the contrary - I was entertained enough to read it in 3 days!! The book is light-hearted and well written, but has enough substance to make you go "Hmmmm".
It's a tale of Upper-Class career parents, who really shouldn't have a child and the often difficult relationships between the Nanny and the two of them.
After I loaned it to my Nanny - to show her how lucky she was - she commented "I am glad you're not like Mr and Mrs X" :-)

Summary: Loved this book!
Review: I absolutely loved this book -- I couldn't put it down after I started reading it. The generic names were a little distracting at first, but once I got used to that I enjoyed it completely. As someone who has just returned to work after having a baby, this was especially entertaining. I hope I never treat my baby's caregiver like this! :-) Great summer read!

Summary: Diaries worth reading....
Review: I wasn't sure if I would like this book, but I was addicted to it immediately. This glimpse into the world of child care among the extremely wealthy was a complete page turner. Nanny starts out with the X family and things, though hectic, are not as bad as you might expect. As things progress in the family, however, she realizes what a tangled web she has been snared in. While she is trying to juggle the work in her classes and develop a relationship with a handsome Harvard student she dubs H. H. (Harvard Hottie), she runs extra errands for Mrs. X and ends up doing twice or three times the work she signed on for. While she has grown to love the young charge she is responsible for, she is constantly belittled by the prudish, superficial Mrs. X and completely invisible and unimportant to the absent father. When marital relations between her employers begin to break down, Nanny is trapped in the middle, worried about keeping her job and how the raising of Grayson, the little boy, is gonna affect him later in life. She sees good in the child but sees that his childhood is anything but trouble free. While family and H. H. encourage her to give up this grueling job, she wants to stay on for the sake of her little guy, whom she has nicknamed "Grover". I thoroughly enjoyed this novel and realized one thing---Nanny's aren't paid enough! An easy and fun read---give it a try!

Summary: So True
Review: I was a Nanny for the summer before I read this book. I had kind of the opposite experience, great employers and argumentive kids. Still, I loved this book. I thought it was absolutly hilarious! I especially liked the way they named the nanny Nanny and the family the Xes. It broadens the experience a lot, though at first it kind of annoyed me. Still, the story was great and I reccommend it to any one who has ever babysat or been a nanny.

Summary: Couldn't Stop Reading
Review: I bought this book to read on a recent flight. I couldn't put it down and almost missed my connection I became so obsessed with finding out what outrageous thing Mrs. X and Ms. Chicago would do next. It is a must read. I became so engrossed with the characters wanting to give Nanny a backbone, comfort Grayer and just knock some sense into the Xes and Ms. Chicago. I can't wait to pass the book on to a friend I know will love it.

Summary: An Okay Read
Review: In my opinion, this book was okay - just okay. You have a hard time liking the main character because there isn't much character development. And, she has no backbone. You get to the point of wanting to scream 'oh, grow up already!' The book was fine, I wasn't bored, I just wasn't very captivated.

Summary: not sure what the fuss is about
Review: I'm not sure why this book is so popular. The characters are all completely one dimensional--the narrator is perfect in her caretaking, has a perfect loving, appropriately quirky family, and a perfect, terrific boyfriend, while the family she works for has not a single redeaming quality. The neglect the child experiences at the hands of his family is sad, not funny, and the narrators "doormat" reaction to the abuses of her employer are infuriating and not funny. At the end, of course, she gets to sermonize about the importance of loving a child. Its a bit yucky.

Summary: Very amusing yet disturbing look into the life of the rich
Review: Since most of us are not a nanny and did not grow up with one, this is an interesting perspective into the life a wealthy family. The story was cute and was difficult to put down. I highly recommend this to anyone looking for an easy, relaxing book. Great for a rainy day!!

Summary: The Nanny Diaries:A Novel
Review: It is a very light frothy book. I found it excellent "bubblegum" for the mind. This is a "chick" book and it will find its greatest appeal to the reader that never employs a sitter and who has never lived in a city.
