Summary: See Jane Run
Review: Amazon forced me to give this book at least one star, but I'd really give it a big ol' ZERO. It took two grown women to write something that could have been written by one of their 5 year old charges. Their writing skills would be put to better use by the folks that churn out Harlequin Romances. Keep your day jobs, ladies. I cannot imagine why this book was so popular. Fran Drescher? The cute cover? Confusion with the Princess Diaries?

Summary: Read it!!!!!!!!!!
Review: If you ever had to work with children or have children this is a book for you. Having worked as a day care teacher for over 5 years I totally understand the overbearing parents!!! Nanny is a wonderful character who besides everything always has the interest of her little client at heart. Little Grayer could not be any more funny, ahh the life of a spoiled rich kid :)It is a fun and easy read but of so true for so many young children. Im just happy i'm not the only one in this wolrd who has to deal with psycho parents.

Summary: Tale of a Co-dependent Martyr
Review: I absolutely hated this book. Oh sure, it was an easy, fast read, but the story was awful. How depressing! About how a wealthy Madison Avenue family mis-treats their child along with everyone else who works for them (particularly the Nanny). One would hope for revenge in the end but there is none. This book was a huge, aggravating, disappointment.

Summary: Great book for the Beach
Review: I really enjoyed this book - it did make me laugh out loud a few times. The tone of the main character is very cynical and hilarious. Some of the story is too ridiculous to believe, so it pulls you away from the plot a little. No great life impact from this book, but a fun beach read!

Summary: extremely entertaining...with a bit of shocking reality
Review: Generations have gone by wondering what it is like to be a child or nanny in one of New York's exclusive homes on the Upper East Side. Well, not really. But it sure is interesting. The Nanny Diaries delivers it.
The Nanny Diaries centers around Nan, a struggling student at NYU. To pay for books and such, she is a nanny. One fateful day, she runs into Mrs. X and her son Grayer in Central Park. Before you can say upper east side, Nanny is working for mrs. x. The book finally starts to pick up. Nan is soon asked to do typical things...and things the mother should be doing. Mrs. X spends no time with her son, and Nan has to take over many motherly positions. As the book goes on, you come to love Grayer and his cute little 4 year old ways. Along with loving Grayer, you pity his situation. He is a 4 year old growing up with no father (he's always on "business" and a mother who hardly sees him) You also come to hate (and at times feel bad for) Mrs X. The sticky and often hilarious situations Mrs. X and Nanny get in makes you laugh. All in all, this book offers the whole package. I recommend it to everyone!

Summary: A Wonderful Story
Review: This story had what I consider "slow down value." As I neared the end, I found myself slowing down to allow the story to linger. It's nice to find a story that doesn't involve death. They have the excellent ability to bring the reader into the lives of the characters. It's one of those rare books thats hard to put down. Highly recommended

Summary: Good, But Not Great
Review: While I really did enjoy this book, I couldn't help but feel let down when I was finished. There were just too many questions unanswered about side stories briefly delved into and the ending seemed contrived - almost like they were so close to finishing it that they just said "Well, let's just go with this." I could have thought of many endings that would have been just as suitable, if not more.

The characters were interesting - I liked that they didn't just portray Grayer as a rich brat, Nan's character grows on you, and Mrs. X ... grows off you is a good way to put it.

Don't get me wrong, its a good read and if you have time, pick it up. But do not be surprised if you feel slightly let down when you are finished.

Summary: I keep asking Why?
Review: The Nanny Diaries was an entertaining and interesting story - peroid. I expected more of a thrilling ploy and plot, however it ended in a very predicatble manner. At the end I couldn't help but feel like asking the questions why? and what else? I guess it's up to me to make that determination. I felt that some of the characters could have been a little more developed and at some points in the book the storyline seemed to drag and get a little dull. Overall, The Nanny Diaries makes a good summertime read.

Summary: Was Disappointed On The Ending
Review: I just finished reading the Nanny Diaries and am disappointed on the ending. I would have liked to have read that Nanny would have finally confronted Mrs. X and told her what she really thought of her and how bad of a mother she is.

It would of been nice to read more on the Mr. X's infedility. The authors should have wrote further about Mrs. X finding out about Ms. Chicago and realizing that what goes around comes around.

Besides this, I enjoyed the book for the most part and would still recommend it to other people to read.

Summary: Well-paced, subversive fun
Review: The Nanny Diaries is a great piece of fiction, perhaps not in small part because it is based so concretely on real life. As cliched as it sounds, I could not put this book down. Portraying the "underbelly" of the upper echelons of New York society, McLaughlin and Kraus make the reader not only laugh at the absurdity of the insanely rich, but think (if not too seriously or sustainedly) about the position of underpaid child care workers in general. Chicks will dig this book!
