Rating: Summary: Great yet a little disturbing Review: When I picked this book up at the library, I was under the impression that it was supposed to be funny. While it was comical at times, I have to say that I was a little disturbed and upset with the way that "Grover" was treated by his parents. Nanny was the best thing that ever happened to this little boy, but the parents don't see it. This book left me thinking and wanting more. I was a little disappointed by the ending, and all I can hope is that there is a second book. I truly hope so!
Rating: Summary: Raising your own children, a guide what not to do?? Review: Ok, Ok, I had to see what the fuss was all about. Heard great things about this book. I'm 3/4th of the way through it and I just got it two day's ago. It's sure hard to put down. I'm concerned that this book is filled with some truthful parts. What horror and shame this mother should feel. I do hope she's read the book and thought?, hum, I wonder if she's referring to us? I hope that this book will show other's what NOT to do. I don't believe Nanny is a door mat at all. She feels obligated to spent time with Grayer since no one else does. She'll make a good mom someday! As a mother, I'll admit there were several times I reflected, what a horrible mother Mrs. X was and I would never do that. Maybe an eye opener, for 1st time mommy's?? Enjoy it.
Rating: Summary: One sided, but interesting... Review: I often read fiction books that relate loosely to decisions/things that are going on in my own life. So, being 6 months pregnant and contemplating hiring a nanny (vs. daycare) when I return to work, I snapped up this book as soon as I saw it without giving much care to reading reviews or opinions on it. I did enjoy reading it, but it is very one-sided and I had a hard time sympathizing w/the main character, Nanny, as she is portrayed as such a 'victim' throughout the whole story. I kept waiting of her to stand up for herself in a strong and dignified way, but that never happened. And, coming from the perspective of someone who would be hiring a nanny, I also felt much of her behavior was completely unprofessional. Yes, her employers were atrocious, but I don't think drinking on the job or purposefully disobeying your employer is the answer. Overall, I think this book made me less likely to want to hire a nanny. If I do hire one, I would want to make sure they take a very professional approach to their job and can deal w/me in a mature peer-to-peer type of relationship rather than playing the victim and acting out in passive aggressive ways.
Rating: Summary: Funny and inspiring Review: The Nanny Diaries is about Nanny, a 21-year-old single girl living in New York City who works part-time as a nanny while attending NYU. Nanny then becomes the nanny for Grayer, the only child of the X family. While Nanny is taking care of Grayer, Mr. and Mrs. X begin to have marital problems. Nanny is absolutely driven out of her mind between taking care of Grayer, completing Mrs. X's orders, and completing her course at NYU. This book is so unique because the authors actually were nannies. This better enables a more truthful account of what it is like to be a nanny. The different situations that Nanny is put into are quite funny, and in the end, touching. I couldn't put this book down at all!! It is an absolute must-read for anybody looking for a summer book to take along to the beach.
Rating: Summary: Even though "false"...very disturbing Review: Even though this story was supposed to be false, I got the impression that the author's (former nannies) gathered their material from personal experience. That in it self was disturbing enough, to know that this type of thing really happens. However, the main character annoyed me the most. Her spineless character made me want to reach in the book and smack her for not standing up for herself. Although marketed as a comedic light read, you'd have to be heartless not to be affected negatively by the story.
Rating: Summary: Adventures of upper class lifestyle from the "nanny" Review: The intricate details of how some "upper class" parents are leaving their parenting duties to their "nannies". This is a sad scenario where family values have taken a back seat. Where having the "best" of everything has produced the "least" of the importance of life, family love, respect and trust. The book is written by 2 nannies who have lived the experience. A must read for all those in "charge" of children.
Rating: Summary: I was laughing, frustrated and angry all at once! Review: I just recently purchased and read "The Nanny Diaries." After having provided daycare to preschool age children for the last four years, I was absolutely blown away by Nanny's job! To think that this poor college senior was trying to maintain her own personal responsibilites, while caring not only for her four year old charge, but trying to "raise" his inconsiderate, egotistic and selfish parents. Through all of this couple's marital discourse and unhappiness, which she unfairly gets pulled into, she manages to continue to stay focus on the main purpose of her job: Grayer. A poor kid, who just wants to be loved and acknowledged by his own flesh and blood. I say "God Bless" anyone who shows the restrain and commitment that she did. Lovingly, her first priority was the child she cared for. Obviously to the parents, their son was just another ornament to be displayed in their all ready overdone high-priced apartment. A great summer read. I devoured it in two days!
Rating: Summary: Best Book Ever! Review: This is the best book I've ever read! Any kid from 10 up would love it. Except, the only way they could read it was if they understood that they could not repeat the f word, or s word. If they get around that ok, they would love this book!
Rating: Summary: This is exactly how it is to be a nanny! Review: I have been a nanny for several families for many years. This is how it is to be a nanny. I would recomend this book for any person who thinks they would like to be a nanny, so they know what they are getting into! There really are people out there like Mrs. X, I have seen it. I could not stop laughing at this book!
Rating: Summary: bittersweet Review: the nanny diaries held a wide range of emotion for me. on one hand, i was laughing out loud at nanny's take on her situation with the xes'. on the other hand, i was disgusted that there are people out there that can be so heartless when it comes to their children. this book is a comical twist on a very sad situation.
