Summary: Revenge of the Nannies. Hooray!!!
Review: You don't have to live on the fashionable and snooty Upper East Side of Manhattan, or have children for that matter, to appreciate this laugh-out-loud account of the adventures of one particularly observant baby-sitter in the employ of a well-heeled but not particularly maternal Park Avenue Mom. But New Yorkers, especially those New Yorkers who've had occasion to navigate the awkward terrain of Nanny-Parent relations, will instantly recognize the characters and situations the book depicts.
At once devilishly funny fiction and sly social commentary, The Nanny Diaries belongs on the bookshelf alongside other recent masterworks of this genre, like Sophie Kinsella's two Shopaholic volumes, and Dorothy Samuels' skewering of America's crazy celebrity obsession in Filthy Rich.
Plainly the two former nannies who concocted this gem took lots of notes.

Summary: Enjoyable
Review: I enjoyed this book and appreciated how it glided easily between the funny and the sad. That is very well done and reflective of life.
The authors also do a very good job of depicting a very curious world of privilege and oddity.

Summary: A must read for any nanny!
Review: This was one of the best books I have ever read and I am an avid reader. I bought the book and finished it in two days! It will make you laugh and it will make you cry! It really gave me closure to some of the experiences that nannies have. I really could not believe how similar some of the experiences were to those myself and my nanny friends have had! It is a very wonderful book and I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys curling up with a good book at the end of a long day! I really feel like I united with the authors and other nannies and together we can root louder for all those children we have cared for and loved!

Summary: Humorous, yes, but quite bitter as well.
Review: As previous reviewers have written this is quite a humorous story. However, knowing the real-world experience upon which it is based leaves a rather bitter taste in one's mouth while reading it, just wondering if that actually happened to a child and if parents of those chilren really behaved in such a manner (all the while knowing of course that it likely did). The ending I found to be extremely painful. What is interesting is the uproar it seems to have caused among these type of parents which only serves to enlighten the authors' point even more - they are greatly concerned about how they appear in this "fictionalized" account and nary a bit concerned of the plight of these children.

Summary: The Nanny Diaries: Tears before bedtime.
Review: Tears before bedtime are apt words to describe how I felt when I finished this book. I cried and cried for Grover and also for Nan.

I read somewhere that lots of authors write their own glowing 'reader reviews' on Amazon, but I am a 'real' reader, and I would recommend this book to anyone. Male, female, with children or not - it's entrancing and I absolutely adored it. I've never written a book review on Amazon before, but The Nanny Diaries inspired me to do so - I want everyone to read it.

I sat down to read it and did not move from the sofa until I reached the end (except once to go to the loo when I took it with me)! Now I've finished it I feel bereft, I wish I was only halfway through and I keep thinking about all the real families who must exist and who have sad lonely little children. I hope that the authors Emma and Nicola based some of Nan's characteristics and brilliance with children on themselves, if only because it means a few of the 'lucky' rich kids had someone to hold their hands even when they were sticky!

All of the characters in the book are fabulous - I fell head over heels in love with Nan and Grover and found the priorities of the Manhattan 'Moms' staggering. I also found it intruiging reading about New York and the American way of life.

Although nothing about this book disappointed me, I did find it slightly frustrating that Nan's family were clearly 'well off' and I have to say that I am cross with the authors, but only because I was rooting for Nan and Grover. I can't mention specifics because it'd give the plot away, so all I would say to the authors is this: Why? Why no mention of the Ear Muffs?!

Potential buyers, I urge you to read this book (preferrably in one sitting) and with tissues to hand for all the crying you'll do - with heartfelt laughter, and with total despair.

Summary: Superficial-episodic-expi-al-ido-cious
Review: Don't be misled by the hype: This book does not explore issues of importance to nannies in any real depth. Instead, the reader gets a superficial glimpse into the narrow world of New York City's ultra-rich living on the Upper East Side. When Nan, the main character finally stands up for herself, she doesn't even do it face-to-face with her employer. What a letdown. There is no arc to the story, just a series of episodes meant to skewer the obnoxiously wealthy parents. The Nanny Diaries should be a fun romp for the New York crowd featured in the story. It's great to laugh at the foibles of these people. And it's great, finally, not to have to read about a nanny who does horrible things to the children in her charge. However, those of us struggling every day to make this intimate employer/employee relationship work out in the hinterlands will have to keep waiting for the New York publishing industry to produce a book that resonates with the rest of us.

Summary: Funny and unbelievably sad!
Review: For some reason, I coudn't review on the book page, so I am writing my reveiw for the cassette page, I have not heard the cassette, so if you are looking for a review for that, skip this one. However, if you are looking for a book review, this is the place!
I really enjoyed this book, I laughed and cried and screamed in frustration. I also spent time with my mouth dropping open in disbelief. I have read that in the "nanny" world, there has been some controversy and second guessing as to who this book is about, but I get the impression, it is about a whole lot of people!
What a life these people live, how empty, and how grateful I am that I raised my son without the use of a nanny, just babysitters once every few months! I quit my job when he was about 16 months, and we struggled but now that he has gone to college, I know it was worth every minute. Actually, I knew a few people in my small world that had nannies, but I think they were just these character "wannabes".
So read this book, enjoy it , relish in the absurdness that some people choose to live their lives, and maybe someone can tell me one day, what IS lavendar water?

Summary: Long overdue look at parenting from the nannys' eyes
Review: Finally, a funny, wide-eyed look at the realities of being "substitute parents", told by two former nannies - and they don't pull any punches when looking at the seamier side of the job. This one may not be popular with those who actually hire nannies - but it should be bought and read by them as well as anyone who has ever been a nanny, considered hiring a nanny or HAS hired a nanny. Often underpaid, privy to the private lives of the families they work for and torn between compassion for the children they care for and their own needs, nannies don't have it easy. This heartfelt (but humorous) book is a real eye-opener!

Summary: Julia Roberts is Outstanding!
Review: I was so excited to read this book but after seeing that Julia was reading the audio, I had to try that instead. She is perfect! I couldn't image anyone else reading this.
