Summary: The most influencial Book written this millenia
Review: The Prince is politics for Politics sake. To criticize it for its lack of ethics is to realize it views as ethical the recognition that those that lust for power can seek and attain it well or poorly. It does not question this lust. But it is a profound book, short and powerful. A narrow criticism is hardly adequate. The Prince set the stage for Hobbes, Locke, Rousseau, and all the other great thinkers whose ideas are the foundation as basis for the current political and social system we have created. Every great politician of our age has read this book. Why wouldn't you?

Summary: Very insightful.
Review: Helped me realize my naivette. I have been working in the industry for over six years. Helped me understand why the "power" bosses were doing what they were doing. Builds your awareness of different stakeholder issues, and helps plan your actions for the long-term.

Summary: harmful
Review: a cookbook of power politics. Lacks depth and it harms the reader.

Summary: Excellent Study Guide
Review: This book is great! It is full of useful suggestions for effective leadership, and is easy to read, considering its original publication date. I was just elected president of my senior class in high school, and a lot of this book can apply directly to my position (heh heh heh.......)

Summary: An excellent translation of a very misunderstood work!
Review: Donno does a great job of presenting this wonderful treatise on power politics. His introduction is very insightful and well researched, and the extensive bibliography and reference section makes it very easy to follow the narrative. THE book to read for new initiates to Machiavelli's intriguing ideas.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Very Intruiging
Review: In spite of my disagreement with the basic 'ethics' (or lack thereof) this book uses as its foundation, and in spite of my general avoidance of office politics, I found Machiavelli's book to be extremely interesting and intruiguing.

It's funny how the lessons of 15th & 16th century Italy can be ported to the modern world. They can, but you may want to ask yourself if you want to use them.

The best part of the book is his call to arms on page 102. "Indeed, a prince seeking for glory in the world should be glad to possess a corrupt city, not to ruin it completely, as Caesar did, but to reform it, as Romulus did....In short, let those to whom the heavens grant such an opportunity realize that two ways lie before them: one of them assures them of security while living and of glory after death; the other assures them of continual troubles while living and of eternal infamy after death."

If your find your company lacking energy, hand that to your CEO.

Summary: A chilling look into the mind of men
Review: Considered the first Modern, Machiavelli attempts to "decloud" Plato's Republic with practicality. A prolific work which shows the sinister workings of your fellow men. This is a definate reading for any remotely interested in philosophy or interested in a guide on how not to be virtuous.

Rating: 2 stars
Summary: Over-rated
Review: What is all the fuss about this book. Machiavelli's overrated book is nothing more than mindless ramble about principalities and how to get them and how to keep them and generally uninteresting stuff. I thought when I bought it I would be shocked as it's reputation would suggest, but I found myself very disappointed at this boring rubbish. Why everyone finds this book shocking I will never know. Its too short to make interesting reading and most of this book is nothing more than a history lesson. Overrated..........
