Rating: Summary: A good read. Review: I so very much wanted to give this book five stars, being a huge Hoag fan and all, but I just couldn't. Before I get into the "don't likes", though, I will say some good things about it.I like that Kovac and Liska were brought back for a novel of their own. In Ashes to Ashes I found them to be refreshing, creative, realistic characters that I cared about, even if they weren't in the spotlight all that much. Now that they are the prominent characters in Dust to Dust, I really got a feel for them and their everyday lives, and look forward to visiting them again in the future, if Tami would be nice enough to write about them again. Sam Kovac is gruff and hard, but endearing at the same time. You want to root for him to get the best in life, but somehow you now he'll just get a taste. Nikki Liska is hard-working and tough, and you have to love her nickname of Tinks once you get to know her. As usual, the book was structured well, very realistic, and keep me reading to end, nonstop. Now for the not-so-positive opinions. For some reason, I find her Minnesota books not quite as intriguing as the ones set in Louisiana. You can tell how much she loves Cajun culture and language in previous books, and for some reason, she doensn't quite have the same passion for those based further North. Also, the end wasn't as much of a surprise as usual, the tension didn't seem to be racheted higher and higher toward the end as usual. Yes, it gets very intense, but usually it's almost hard to breathe as you read. I don't know. It was a good book, but didn't captivate me nearly as much as previous books, even Ashes to Ashes, which I found to be amazing. I would still reccommend Dust to Dust to anyone though, even my mother who is about to start it. Maybe she'll have a different perspective. Either way, I hope you enjoy it too.
Rating: Summary: Loved it Review: This book really kept my interest. I loved the characters Sam and Nikki. The friendship and trust between them was great. All of the characters were unique and well defined. I am a little bit of a romantic and wanted a different ending. I was so disappointed in Sams love life not working out. On the whole I love Tami Hoag's books and especially this one.
Rating: Summary: Superior Suspense Review: With each new book, Tami Hoag enhances her growing reputation as a suspense writer. This one begins with the apparent suicide of Andy Fallon, a Minneapolis Internal Affairs cop. Homicide detectives Sam Kovac and Nikki Liska aren't buying the suicide by accident ruling, however, after finding too many loose ends, especially after Fallon's father, a disabled cop shot on the job 20 years before, also ostensibly commits suicide the morning of the funeral. When Kovac and Liska discover that young Fallon had been digging into the murder of another officer the night his father was shot and rendered paraplegic 20 years ago, they follow the clues, often in direct contradiction of their orders, which seem to lead directly to one of the shining stars in the Department. This is a sophisticated, intensely fast-paced story of murder, intrigue, and suspense.
Rating: Summary: Dust to Dust, Blew My Mind! Review: Kovac and Liska are what you would hope real law enforcement officers would be like. Tami Hoag does it again, with this page turner. Just when you think you have it all mapped out in your mind, Hoag twists the story another way. Very entertaining.
Rating: Summary: Dust To Dust Review: I could not put it down.I have read most of her books and this was one of her best. Most mysterys you can get an idea who may have done it,but in Dust To Dust you will not have a clue.I hope she brings Nikki and Mike back in the future. They are a commical pair.
Rating: Summary: I'm halfway through this book and I'm waiting for the story! Review: I'm a fan of Tami Hoag's books and eagerly waited for my copy to come in at the library---and now I have to keep forcing myself to pick up the book and read it! Probably if I had a deeper list of books on hand to read, this one would be at the bottom of the pile! The plot is such a departure from Ms. Hoag's previous books that it's hard to believe she wrote it! This is definitely one of those "WHO CARES" books.
Rating: Summary: Dust to Dust to???? Review: I thought that this book was one of Tami Hoag's better books although I was disappointed in the ending....I thought Sam and Nikki deserved some happiness from downside of their professions other than a cup of coffee with each other at the end of the book .....the book left a sad spot...Hopefully, Sam and Nikki will return in another book with a more uplifting ending. I especially like the interaction between Sam and Nikki and Nikki's personality as a "tough cop". I recommend the book, but don't expect a bright spot as in Ashes to Ashes.
Rating: Summary: You Won't Be Able To Put It Down Review: Tami Hoag is back and better than ever with her new suspense thriller, Dust to Dust. Andy Fallon, Internal Affairs cop and son of police legend, Iron Mike Fallon, is found hanging nude in his bedroom, facing a mirror with the word "sorry" printed on it. Suicide...accident...murder? Sam Kovac and Nikki Liska, two of Minneapolis' toughest detectives are told to expedite the case, call it an accident and move on. But Kovac isn't convinced and when Iron Mike is found a few days later, another apparent suicide, Kovac and Liska stop listening to the brass, put their careers on the line and start their own investigation. As they begin to dig, they uncover dirty cops, cover ups, a connection to a twenty year old case and a killer who wants to keep the secrets of the past dead and buried. This is one fast paced, page turner that will keep you up reading, all night. Dust to Dust has it all. Great characters with strong voices. Tight plot with vivid, riveting scenes and enough twists and turns to keep you guessing to the terrifying climax and very satisfying end of the book. A must read for all mystery fans!
Rating: Summary: Is There More Than Meets the Eye? Review: Following up on her previous book, Ashes to Ashes, Tami Hoag brings us into a new Minneapolis based mystery with some characters we came to know in Ashes. An exciting story that starts with the death of Police Officer Andy Fallon's apparent suicide as a result of rejection by his father because he was gay. Next, Andy's father is dead and there is clearly something wrong with what is also made to look like a suicide. The story takes us into the world of the Minneapolis Police Department and what's been going on there over a twenty year period. Great characters. A compelling read. Read Ashes to Ashes and follow it with Dust to Dust.
Rating: Summary: Another winner from Hoag Review: I thought DUST TO DUST was a terrific book. The more I read, the more it grabbed me. Unlike some suspense authors, you can always count on Hoag to draw you into the emotional lives of her characters and Kovac and Liska are no exception. That adds another layer to the suspense because you actually care about the protagonists. It was also sort of a relief to read a suspense novel that wasn't about a serial killer. Serial killers have always been hard to warm up to for me because they don't have any particular passion for their victims, just for the kill. But DUST TO DUST had a genuine mystery to solve with the lives of everyone involved being changed forever. I loved it!
