Summary: The best yet
Review: I've been reading Tami Hoag's books for awhile and this is one of her better books to date. A continual thriller of twists and turns that will leave you and the charecters in the book guessing till the very end. I doubt you will figure out exactly WHO did it till the charecters do!!

If you haven't read any of Tami Hoag's books this is a good one to start with!

Summary: Gratuitous Filth
Review: I have been an avid reader of good mysteries since the days of S.S. VanDine. This is my first T. Hoag book. Not a bad story of intrigue, and I have no objection, as do others, that there isn't a sweet ending, but WHY ALL THE GRATUITOUS FILTHY LANGUAGE? Even Sandford isn't this bad. I spent 23 years in the Marine Corps, and never heard THAT much. She trying to prove her macho capability against male authors? Unnecessary.

Summary: No Happy Endings Here
Review: I usually enjoy Tami Hoag's books because of the suspenseful plots and the element of romance. While I did enjoy the plot and hearing from characters in a previous book, there was no happy ending to this book. Nope, no boy gets girl. There was nothing to relieve the stress of the story line. Neither of the main characters (Sam and Nikki) came out a winner, and I felt badly for them. Tami Hoag fans should, of course, read it; but don't expect to come away smiling after the last page is turned.

Summary: MYSTERY WRITERS SHOULD TAKE LESSONS FROM TAMI HOAG
Review: This is the sixth book I have read by Tami Hoag and I can honestly say that she has never disappointed me. While others in this genre are known to give away endings before the middle of the book and make sure that their storylines are current with what other more popular writers are doing, Hoag always stands above all others in plot twists and unique scenarios. If she isn't already involved in teaching writing classes, she should be.

In this episode, some of the characters we first met in Ashes to Ashes return to solve the mystery of who killed Andy Fallon -- an Internal Affairs cop. He is found hanging in his apartment with the words "I'm Sorry" written on the mirror. To complicate matters even more, Andy is gay and is the son of Iron Mike Fallon, a former cop who is now disabled and is still well-respected by the force. Sam Kovaks and his partner Nikki Liska are in charge of the case which, for all intents and purposes, is being deemed a suicide or accident. Sam and Nikki, however, have their doubts.

While everyone else is willing to certify this as an accident, the two homicide detectives won't give up. Hoag is noted for writing about main characters who are tenacious in spite of what the opposing factions are throwing their way. In this book, they are ordered to leave this one alone, agree that it was an accident and move on. You know right away that this isn't going to happen. There are a number of other characters who immediately become suspects in the reader's eyes and just when you've nailed it down, Hoag throws you another bone.

There are other background stories to contend with which will keep the reader turning the pages. What were the true circumstances surrounding Iron Mike's disability? Did Andy's being gay have anything to do with his death? Does anyone have any respect for Internal Affairs cops?

As with all of Hoag's other books, I found this one riveting. I also very much enjoy the location of Minnesota as the setting. I don't live there but I appreciate the trips that the characters take to the Mall of America as well as the colder than cold descriptions of the Minnesota winters. We've now had Ashes to Ashes and Dust to Dust. What's next for us Hoag fans?

Summary: What happened?
Review: I've eagerly awaited all of Hoag's mysteries but this one was so bad I couldn't wait to put it down. It was prolonged and had no realistic plot. I hope the next one (like her preceding ones) is better.

Summary: Not the usual
Review: I have always loved Tami Hoag's books and eagerly awaited buying them as soon as they were published. Dust to Dust in no way compares to Ashes to Ashes. It took a long time to establish a connection with the characters, which is unusual for Tami Hoag. The suspense was good, but I always liked the romance and the "happy" endings. That's one reason I liked her books. This one was "not the usual." I was disappointed.

Summary: A hard-boiled detective story
Review: This book is a gritty, often disturbing picture of life as a metropolitan detective. Initially, I didn't expect to like the book. HOWEVER, once I started reading it I couldn't put it down. The story is so complex and has so many twists and turns that you will not figure it all out until you read the last page. The author really knows how to craft a well-written mystery.

Summary: Suicide or Murder
Review: That is the question.... Sam and his partner Nikki aren't certain that Fallon's death was a suicide. Even though the department brass tell them to leave it alone. Kovac and Nikki are the good cops...they need to resolve all questions before anything is final.. The book has a lot of dialoge that sometimes gets confusing... I had to keep looking back the previous pages to catch up on who's talking. Maybe because the story was so dragged out I started to drift into no man's land. I have been a fan of Hoag for many years and have read all of her books and kept wanting more. However, with this book, I just couldn't wait to finish it so that I could move on to better one. Sorry Hoag, this one just doesn't live up to your previous efforts.

Summary: Hang on for the Ride
Review: This novel has all of the makings of a great murder mystery. 2 crude and somewhat unorthodox police officers, the deaths of a father and son, both police officers which are covered up to look like suicides, more dead bodies, a woman with a deep dark secret which ends up ruining her life, a little smattering of the problems gay police officers have on the police force, all culmintating in a tragic and sad ending. This story gets you going from the beginning and speeds up at the novel progresses. The writing, story line and characters remind me of a 2000 version of the murder mysteries written by James Elroy a la "LA Confidetial" and "The Black Dahlia". This is NOT a murder mystery that can be easily solved midway through the book. The ending comes as a great surprise yet is sad when the reader looks at 'why she did what she did' (won't spoil it).

This is the first novel I have read by this author and I am already planning on getting Ashes to Ashes. This is a great novel

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: This Is A Very Good Book
Review: This book is unput downable. And surprises on top of surprises. First Ashes to Ashes. Now this. They are both great. I love a good police procedural and they don't get any better than this. This was very well written. Kovac and "Tink" are a great team. It kept me guessing until the very end. Read as soon as you can, because you will definitely enjoy.
