Summary: More Minneapolis Police detectives...
Review: n this story you learn about some more hard working Minneapolis detectives. Liska and Kovak who find that they are not happy about the quick closing of the death of a former Minnesota cop and his son (a current officer). While the son is a known gay officer the way he dies is not as neatly as the initial investigation may lead you to believe. Sam and Liska decide to pursue the case, though they are told not to. Sam and Nikki open another closed case, this one almost two decades old, and find the connections that threaten to unravel past crimes and future promises

There is a lot of suspense and guessing in this story to see if you can determine where things will go next, and who really did it.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Excellent, read Ashes to Ashes first
Review: An excellent stand alone, but with a little bit of history you get from Ashes to Ashes on the area increases the fascination. So far, Tami Hoag has burst on the reader scene in our home since we can't quite predict her endings, the plot twists, and the lusty passions are what we all dream of, but don't really want. Live vicariously on the edge; read Tami Hoag, snuggle in for a good read, and don't make any plans!

Summary: dust to dust
Review: this was wonderful. as per her other books, this was well written, deeply understanding and compassionate.you felt an immediate connection with the characters. I cannot say enough about this.a very good, read.

Rating: 1 stars
Summary: Not as good as some of her other books
Review: Out of all the Hoag novels I've read, this one is my least favorite. It's very slow-moving and very difficult to get into. The two main characters, Nikki Liska and Sam Kovac occasionally have humorous comments, but are mostly annoying. This book is more mystery than suspense and there is not enough action to keep the reader hooked. I would recommend reading a different book by her, such as A Thin Dark Line (this one is everything Dust to Dust is not--fast paced, romantic, with great characters). Also I would definitely say that Tami Hoag's books are not good for anyone under 16--they contain graphic sex scenes, violence, a lot of swearing, and a lot of sexual innuendo.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Great characterization and mystery!
Review: If you are not in a hurry, this book offers an interesting look into the painstaking work of crime investigation. The characterization of Sam and Liska are such that you feel as if they are people you actually know. The intelligent and snappy remarks are hysterical and add real enjoyment to this already interesting story. I got emotionally involved with the characters and the end was emensely satisfying.
Definitely worth the read. Sit back and enjoy!

Summary: Slightly different than her others.
Review: It takes a while to get into the "cop talk" toward the beginning of the book, but by the halfway point you won't be able to put it down. There are so many different things going on in here at one time, it's almost exhilarating. The author did a wonderful job of pulling everything together into one story. I only rated it four stars instead of five because I was expecting something somewhat different.

Rating: 3 stars
Summary: Not her best
Review: Unlike other Tami Hoag books, this one was mediocre in both the suspense and romance department. What I ended up feeling was sad and "Sorry" for the two main characters. The ending left me more depressed than anything.

Summary: KT's Review
Review: I liked the book. It was interesting reading. The author fed you clues, but not till near the end did the truth come out. It was a well-developed plot.

"Sergeant Fallon's untimely death was a tragic accident," or so the brass of the police department states. Was it an accident, a suicide, or an outright murder?

Detective Sam Kovack and his partner Nikki Liska believe the later. The more they investigate the more brick walls go up. Is the missing link a closed murder from twenty years ago or the death of a gay cop a few months back? As they two detectives dig away at the case, more clues and suspects turn up.

Rating: 3 stars
Summary: Actually More Than 3 Stars But Definitely Less Than 4
Review: I bought Tami Hoag's "Dust to Dust" because I liked two of the characters in it, Detectives Sam Kovac and Nikki Liska. Kovac and Liska had been supporting characters in an earlier Hoag book which I liked quite a bit, "Ashes to Ashes". (What else would come before "Dust to Dust"?). This time they are back with their own novel. The book is at its best when the two of them are playing off of one another. On the other hand, any book with even one character named "Ace" or "Speed" would have me cringing at every mention of one of those names. This one has one of each which must violate some literary rule or criminal statute.

Internal Affairs Detective Andy Fallon is found hanging in his bedroom. Is it suicide, an accident, or murder? Gee, Hoag writes murder mysteries. By George, it must be murder. Also, Andy is gay, so it could even be a hate crime. If that's not enough, another gay cop was recently murdered, and his confessed killer may be recanting. Is this related to the Fallon death or one of Hoag's infamous red herrings? All I can say is the answers are all too obvious.

When I was about half way through the book, I narrowed the possible culprits down to two people, the obvious one and the likely one. I really disliked the obvious one and wanted it to be him even though I knew it was probably the likely one. (It was.) That's probably as much as there is to say about the plot of "Dust to Dust".

However, Kovac and Liska are really fun, although I could have done without Kovac's aborted attempt at a love life. That seemed contrived and totally out of character for both parties. On the other hand, Hoag seems to have done her homework on police procedure, or at least what she presents as procedure makes sense. Hoag is a competent writer and there are long passages that held my interest and created some suspense. However, every now and then her language gets a bit stilted.

If you are a fan of Tami Hoag, you probably will like this especially if you liked her dreadful novel, "Guilty as Sin". For everyone else, there are a lot of writers who aren't nearly as talented as Hoag, so you can do a lot worse.
