Rating: Summary: Meet Hannibal Lector for the first time! Review: I saw Silence of the Lambs after seeing a commericial for Hannibal.... It creeped me out so much that I had to quickly convince the movie people I was 18 to see Hannibal! The movies are so scary and Hannibal Lector is so well done by Anthony Hopkins, that you think there is nothing that will scare you anymore! Then you read the books!!! The books I read several years after seeing the movies, that I had forgotten how scary Dr. Lector is! After reading Silence of the Lambs, I noticed that there was a prequel... Red Dragon.... Red Dragon is before Clarice... before Buffalo Bill.... Red Dragon is about Will... an ex FBI agent and the man who put away Hannibal Lector.... Will, still haunted by his near-death-expierence, is called back to the FBI to hunt down a serial killer. Will is special because he can get into the minds of the killer and understand them.... which is so creepy, because the mind of a killer is a place none of us want to go... Will has only till the next full moon for the next murder... This book is very scary and full of suspense! You definately will need your nightlight after this book! Thomas Harris tells a great story that will catch you from the begining and make you hold on for dear life! Oh, and Edward Norton will be Will in the up coming movie... on October 4th, be prepare to be scared!
Rating: Summary: Thomas Harris delivers a true classic with Red Dragon Review: I was really impressed from this well-writen work by Thomas Harris. I think this was one of the better books that I have read in a long while. FIVE STARS!
Rating: Summary: Should've made this the first movie Review: If you're expecting to hear the gruesome details about how Hannibal Lecter killed and was eventually caught, then this book will disappoint you. However, it will reveal to you the man that caught Hannibal -- Will Graham. Harris is clever with his details of how Graham thinks, putting the reader completely inside Graham's mind while still writing from the third person point of view. Even better, Harris puts you inside the killer's head, providing a history of a sociopath on the same level as Hannibal. One can only imagine what Harris would write if he were to delve into Lecter's assuredly twisted childhood. The other reviews say it all -- there really isn't much more to say except this book keeps you on your toes and running pretty much all the way through. And just when you think it's over, it's not!
Rating: Summary: A wonderful book - couldn't put it down. Review: I believe this was the fastest I have ever read a book. Captivated by how well this was written, Harris knows how to grasp your attention. The pure emotions he writes the characters having, as well as how he depicts Graham's unshaken determination to solve the murders is remarkable. This book is worthy of adding to your collection. Although I really didn't find it "scary" it was suspenseful and kept you guessing. From the very first page, to the very last, this book kept my attention - which is quite rare. The last few chapters are mind boggling and unexpected. This is one terrific book!
Rating: Summary: On the right track Review: After reading Hannibal, I knew I had to read more of this author's work. The novel starts off well. The main characters (Graham and Dolarhyde) are well developed. Graham, the detective, is interesting, although he is over-shadowed by the creepy, tortured Dolarhyde. Hannibal's brief appearence is, without question, the best part of the book. His character will always be one of the greatest. The one problam with this book is the end. It could have been much much better, but most unfortunately it takes a turn for the worse. It almost gives you the impression that the author was unsure of how to finish the book, so he fell back on horror movie cliches. Aside from this, it is a very good book, well written, and certainly worth reading.
Rating: Summary: is a very interesting and exciting novel Review: I recommend this book to almost anyone who likes to read, mainly teens and adults. The teens would like the violence and the killing. The adults would be more into the investigation and think about how and when the law enforcement would catch the killer. The Red Dragon is a psychological - suspense novel and it was mostly about the detectives Jack Crawford and Will Graham and their investigation crew trying to capture the serial killer. The worse aspect of the book was that some parts were hard to understand and I would have to read it over a couple times. And the best aspect was that it was very interesting.
Rating: Summary: Movie nearing completion Review: I was first "introduced" to Hannibal Lecter in 1986 when I saw a little gem of a film called "Manhunter," based on Thomas Harris' "Red Dragon." Several years later, I heard a new movie was coming out called "Silence of the Lambs," in which Lecter had an expanded role. I rushed out and purchased the book and have been hooked ever since. Of the three adaptions of Harris "Lecter novels," "Red Dragon" is the best. I prefer Will Graham to Clarice Starling, perhaps because "Manhunter" was my first outing. Now, a new film based on "Red Dragon" is coming to a multiplex near you. Anthony Hopkins will reprise his role as the cannibal. Edward Norton will play Will Graham, orginally played by CSI's William L. Peterson in "Manhunter." Ralph Fiennes will play the Tooth Fairy. Ted Tally, Oscar winner for his adaptation of "Lambs," scripted the re-make. Brett Ratner (Rush Hour) will direct (what the [heck]?). Anyway, should be an interesting intepretation. Comes out October 4th.
Rating: Summary: First Dr. Hannibal Lecter tale. Review: If you haven't heard of this one, it is likely because the movie version was called Manhunter. This is the first story by Thomas Harris that introduces the diabolical character Dr. Hannibal Lecter. SILENCE OF THE LAMBS made a stronger impression and fans. HANNIBAL seemed to be missing something but was also good. IF you are looking for other Dr. Hannibal Lecter characters, check out Stephen King's "Black House" and Ann M. Tempesta's "Damsel in the Rough"
Rating: Summary: Strong introduction to the Creepiest Psycho the world's seen Review: Any fan of Hannibal or The Silence of the Lambs will love this book, because we are introduced to everyone favorite cannibal, Hannibal Lecter. And you have to enjoy it. This book is much like the sequel to it, The Silence of the Lambs which I had read first. It is based around Will Graham attempting to find a serial killer. Eventually, like Clarice in The Silence of the Lambs, he goes to the Hannibal, who seems to be able to help everyone in their pursuits of the day's latest madmen. While Hannibal does not help as much this time around, he his a vital part. As with Lambs, we also get introduced to the killer long before Graham does. The only dissapointment is the lack of explanation of the killer's rituals at the end. However, this book has its shares of scares, not as much as Lambs, but it's an extremely enjoyable novel.
Rating: Summary: Masterpiece Review: Red Dragon by Thomas Harris is a masterpiece of psychological terror. The ability of Harris to put you in the mind of a serial killer is unmatched by any author I have ever read. There have been many attempts to copy the genius of Harris, but IMHO they all fall short. If you want a good scare read Red Dragon. If you have already read it, read it again. Novels of this quality are very rare.
