Rating: Summary: Magnificent Reading Review: I became interested in this book after seeing the movie "Manhunter" with William Peterson. At the end it said that it was based on the book "The Red Dragon" by Thomas Harris. Of course, after reading the book, I was hooked on Thomas Harris!
Rating: Summary: This is one of the best books I have ever read !!!! Review: This is the first book that I have read by this author. He weaves a wicked web of suspense, tragedy and horror. The characters in "The Red Dragon" are well developed and memorable. Thomas Harris is an excellent author. I am eager to read more of his books.

Rating: Summary: This is why it take him so long... Review: I was compelled to add my review after reading other reader reviews in this forum. I had unfortunately read this book after reading 'Silence of the Lambs'. I only say unfortunately because reading 'Red Dragon' first would have made the wait and anticipation for 'SoL' much more enjoyable. Most know the plot well enough unless your fairly new to popular fiction; a mildly disfigured man who, through the circumstances of his early life situation, becomes compelled to murder as the process by which he is able to exhibit the control and power missing from his earlier life. Though a brief synopsis, it is enough to go on. The authors best gift in my opinion, is in attention to detail. Their is a subtlety here that is absent from almost all other popular fiction of this genre. From an actual explanation (or reason) for the killers future behavior, to references to art and literature that don't seem added just to appease 'high minded' critics. This in addition to rich character development also usually absent from such work. This is most proven by making the killer a sympathetic character. In the absence of his horrific hobby, you think this could potentially be a solid citizen. Clearly, more thought goes into Thomas Harris's tomes than the majority of other popular authors, hence the time frame involved between books. We can only hope the next is in the near future.
Rating: Summary: Almost a masterpiece! Review: This wonderfull thriller I red some years ago, because of my fondly delight of "The silence of the lambs". This book is almost as good as the later one. The opinion loses "one star" because of the detective's sometimes boring reserse. The best part is the second half of the book, when the killer sad destiny comes up as we get to know the story of his life and you get some symphony of him. If you like "Black Sunday" and "The silence of the lamb" you like this one! I promiss! Let's hope his later work is as good as his , Thomas harris, three books (and especielly "The silence..."). I highly recommend "Red dragon"
Rating: Summary: Thomas Harris/Glaser Slugs Review: I have re-read this novel at least thrice. Let's not forget that it was not Will Graham who entered the mind of a psychopath, but Harris himself -the man is an absolute genius right down to the last detail of his characterizations of life's outsiders, of both the garden variety and the......undefinable, truly truly scary ones. Mr Harris, thank you for inspiring me to take home security SERIOUSLY; approaching it from the eyes of an intelligent, determined homicidal psychopath intent on getting IN. Right down to steel doors guarding safe rooms, double deadbolts, electronic security, lexan windows, an ab-10 assault pistol and .44 Special in secured push-button pistol safes in strategic areas; the works. I can only say: read this novel --you will never forget its imagery, and you will never forget to lock your doors...........
Rating: Summary: The only book I've ever read that truely scared me. Review: My eye happened to catch The Red Dragon in the bookstore and I was instantly sold. A suspenseful look into an insane mind and the mind it will take to catch it, The Red Dragon, isn't my usual Genre but it drew me in immediately. Anyone who has what it takes to stomach it will throughly enjoy this book. I only regret that I can't give it six stars!
Rating: Summary: RED DRAGON=THE SILENCE OF THE LAMBS Review: Both GREAT books by the same author with the SAME story line-a psyhcopath who kills people because he wants to change. Also, Red Dragon takes place before Silence of the Lambs because Hannabil Lecter is in it.
Rating: Summary: Red Dragon is a chilling tale.... Review: ~Thomas Harris' Red Dragon is a brilliant peek into the disturbed life of one Francis Dolarhyde, a harelipped beast of a man, and one whose job is a direct link to his victims. Dolarhyde's life is portrayed in a sympathetic manner, and you cannot help but feel sorry for him sometimes. His character as a child reminds me much of that of Billy Pilgrim in Vonnegut's Slaughterhouse Five.... <p~ eye for a family is that of lust and jealousy, and Graham's profile of the crime scenes is indicative of Dolarhyde's intentions. It is during the scenes that Graham is present at the scene of the murders that the book has its true horror. To me, Red Dragon does not prey on what Dolarhyde does or what he is, but what we think he is. <p~ Doctor Hannibal Lecter, but Graham survived, and put Lecter behind bars. We learn of some of the horrifying acts that Lecter was guilty of, and although is recessive in most of the novel, occasionally picks at Graham with his mindgames. Lecter is a psychiatrist as well, and knows Graham well....Lecter enjoys torment.... <p~ has feelings of betrayal, and grows to dislike Lecter. <p~ this term the "Tooth Fairy," and vows to prove his strength as the Dragon. He begins to have personality conflicts, in which he takes on a role as both Dolarhyde, the disturbed harelip, both shunned by his stepfamily and loved by his grandmother, and that of the Red Dragon, the vicious personification of his most violent and brutal character. <p~ to survivors, and the terrible visions and projections that Graham is famous for, as he works on solving the murder. <p
