Rating: 5 stars
Summary: The best psychological book I've read in a long time.
Review: This book ruled. I usually rate pretty hard, but Harris book, glued me to my chair. The way he wrote about Dolarhyde's past, it made me feel sorry for him. I can't wait to read the other one in the series. (The Silence Of The Lambs)

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Where it all starts.
Review: Though Hannibal Lecter is probably mentioned in ten pages or less, he is clearly the catalyst!

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: excellent story, decently written
Review: vacation reading. You read for ten hours straight and spend the rest of the week recovering.

Summary: Could have been much better.
Review: "Red Dragon" is definitely an exciting book. However, it could have been much better. By far the most exciting element of the book was that, in the beginning, it allowed us to get to know the families that are murdered. By showing us how average the families were, it increases the terror (think of "In Cold Blood") and makes it seem more urgent and random. However, the book gets away from that later on and focuses too much on the killer's upbringing. Explaining why the murderer killed takes away the suspense and left me feeling cold.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: A very nice and scary read!
Review: This book was one of the best and most entertaining books I've read in a long time. I love the way the author gets you into the killer's mind. This reminded me very much of Robert Bloch's novel "Psycho". If you liked this book, you should read "Psycho". Even though it is not nearly as scary as "Red Dragon", it gets you into Norman Bate's mind much more than the film based on the novel.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Very scary
Review: I had to read Red Dragon and The Triumph and the Glory to see what all the fuss was about, and know I know what all the fuss was about. WOW!

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Almost Great
Review: Like most other people, I read this book after reading 'Silence', but wanted to get the full effect before reading 'Hannibal'. The book was enthralling, to say the least, and I don't think anyone could have thought up a better villain than the 'Red Dragon/Toothfairy, etc...' The character was excellently developed starting out with the reader being utterly terrified by his actions, then sympathetic, after reading about his tragic upbringing, only to again be reminded of his truely evil nature (just ask that poor reporter!). I did think the book fell short when developing the hero, Will Graham. Harris seems to put alot of emphasis in the mental/emotional development of his characters as a result of childhood/past experiences, in order to stress to the reader their current actions or mindsets (i.e. Clarice Starling in 'Silence'), but very little of this was done with Graham. I feel a few more pages about WHY will Graham is the way he is, would have bumped this book up another half-star. The other half star would have come from a little more involvement by everyones favorite 'Cannibal'.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Engaging, Inventive, Insightful
Review: Harris's work is truly a terrifying yarn. Both a psychological study and a thrilling detective story, Red Dragon achieves a depth most Grishams or Chrichtons don't. It's a terrific read, but the possible reality of this book is most frightening element. The hunter who has to face his own inner demons to connect with this psychopath and track him. These emotion twisting storylines: the warped mind of the killer, the tortured state of the hunter make Red Dragon as scary as it is. Even to one incredible cannibalistic doctor who proves the reader's fascination with the abomination.

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: You'll think twice about using Photomat from now on...
Review: Simply a "cracking good read." What's more, the author's trademark skill -- putting the reader inside psychotic minds -- really finds traction in some chapters.

Great literature? Nah! Great reading? Yeah, you bet.

Rating: 3 stars
Summary: Not What I Expected!
Review: I saw the movie, "Silence of the Lamb" years ago and I just recently found out that it was in book form, so I decided to read Red Dragon to get the full affect of Silence of the Lamb. Red Dragon was interesting to say the least.

I am looking forward to reading Hannibal since I was so intrigued by him in Silence of the Lamb.
