Rating: Summary: fantastic, could not put it down Review: This was a good story! Intense, exciting and gruesome. Finished it in 2 days!!!
Rating: Summary: close to greatness, but...... Review: I was filled with anticipation upon opening "Red Dragon" for the first time, having greatly enjoyed "silence of the lambs". (who didn't, right?) I saw the makings of an interesting story begin to materialize, but the wait was in vain, for reading this book is the equivalent of a rained-out ball game: you know something cool was about to happen, but you end up going home disappointed. The plot goes in endless circles, the characters are derivative from earlier, better works, and the ending belongs in "I know what you did last summer", throwing reason out the window in favor of a cheap thrill. Go read "silence", you'll thank yourself for it.
Rating: Summary: Harris' best. Review: The Red Dragon is Harris' best novel. I just came off from reading HANNIBAL. That book was a bunch of garbage. The Red Dragon was written in the eighties were Harris wasn't as rich. His development of characters and the sad, but somewhat realistic ending is what cathces me in this book. Thumbs to Red Dragon, Black Sunday, and SOTL.
Rating: Summary: OK but nothing really new here Review: Red Dragon WAS a turn-the-page clone of SIlence of the lambs but i guess if it aint broke dont fix it. Only Left Behind and The Triumph and Glory keopt me as mesemerized as Red Dragon. It is very intense and says a lot of about human psychology.
Rating: Summary: Excellent! Review: It was a great book. It kept your hair standing straight up until the end. The end (the last 50 pages) I think the ending was not so well written and was a quick cheesy ending. Other than that it was a great book!
Rating: Summary: Red Dragon? Silence of the Lambs? Different or the Same? Review: First of all, I enjoy reading Thomas Harris' books, but I thought the Red Dragon was supposed to be our introduction to Hannibal Lecter and that the novel was about HL. It's not!The "detectives" in Red Dragon and Silence of the Lambs use the same methods in finding the killer. They use Dr. Lecter. Can't we go further than that? We seem to be stuck in a rut here. And, I am tired of reading about how unhappy, poor, and mistreated the killers were as children. Mr. Harris is stuck in a rut here too. Take a moment and read the A to Z Guide to Serial Killers, Mr. Harris. You will be surprised to learn that there are quite a number of serial killers who actually had wonderful, happy childhoods. They just decided killing makes them even happier. Except for confusing pronouns - who is thinking or speaking - which he? - I really enjoy Mr. Harris' writing style. He can tell a great story. If you like to be scared and saddened at the same time, read this novel!
Rating: Summary: Hardened Profiler chases killer. Review: If you liked Silence of the Lambs, you'll dig this. In fact, the plot points found in this thriller often mirror theaforementioned. One things for sure, if you like to scrounge around in the ghoulish mind of a serial killer, this is the read for you!
Rating: Summary: Great Suspensful Book Review: I was so into this book, that I read all 500 pages in two sittings. I thought it was so good. Thomas Harris is a genius. All of his works are masterpieces.
Rating: Summary: Second to Silence Review: Before readers even heard of Buffalo Bill or Clarice Starling in Thomas Harris's The Silence of the Lambs, there were Dolarhyde and William Graham in Red Dragon. In my opinion, Red Dragon trails far behind its sequel. The book starts out with the familiar character of Jack Crawford attempting to persuade a sort of criminal personality advisor, Will Graham, to come back to the FBI to work on a case. Crawford is convinced that some sort of madman is killing families randomly in the southeastern U.S. - 2 families, with seemingly nothing in common, have been slaughtered in their own homes over a 2-month period. Graham's job is to work out the particulars about the killer, consulting briefly with Dr. Hannibal "The Cannibal" Lecter. Okay, now for the "review/opinion" portion of this. To be frank, I disliked Red Dragon. Most of the suspense is cheaply derived from the fact that Graham was almost killed by Dr. Lecter, and now he has to go consult the good doctor about a new case. When compared to the poodle-loving, blues-singing Buffalo Bill in Silence of the Lambs, Francis Dolarhyde seems like a bored Peeping-and-Killing Tom. Graham's fear is palpitable (wouldn't you be paranoid if Hannibal Lecter almost disemboweled *you* with a linoleum knife?), but somehow it's not enough to put you on the edge of your seat at 1:27 A.M.
Rating: Summary: FOUR AND A HALF STARS! Review: I'M a Thomas Harris fan, so I enjoyed this book. It wasn't as good as THE RED DRAGON and THE SILENCE OF THE LAMBS, but it was good enough to keep me up all night. The ending could have been better. *** There's a new author out there named A.T. Nicholas that wrote a novel called, THE FIST OF GOD. He's signing the first three thousand sold through Amazon. It's a great supernatural thriller.
