Rating: Summary: The Red Dragon Review: I picked up The Red Dragon at the airport en route to our family Christmas get together. I remember family members trying to get my attention to wish me a Merry Christmas (and I believe this was 1983). I was completely engrossed from beginning to end. I especially remember feeling as though I were in the minds ("first person") of both Will Graham (the detective) as well as the murderer. A great ride!
Rating: Summary: A Page Turner Review: An exciting book. It grabs your attention from page one. I could not put it down. Except for the ending it correlates well with the movie "Manhunter". There were some things that were said and done in the movie that would not have made sense to me without reading the book first. Dr. Hannibal Lecter makes his initial appearance in this book. I would recommend reading this book then "Silence of the Lambs", then "Hanibal"
Rating: Summary: Entertaining, but with predictable twists. Review: Thomas Harris writes a wonderfully visual story, and Red Dragon is no exception. I thought that Graham's character was wonderfully elaborate and complex....I wished for the same development in Dolarhyde's character. Yes, we learned bits and pieces of his twisted childhood, but I was left wanting more. I also found it predictable that he'd fall in love with someone and go through an internal struggle in which her life would hang in the balance. The ending also did not surprise me, I knew it was "too easy" to assume Dolarhyde was dead at that point in the book. All in all, I did enjoy this thriller...I just was hoping for a bit more depth.
Rating: Summary: Terrifing Review: I read this book when it was first released and still remember it very well. I got rid of the book as soon as I read it because it was so scary I didn't want it n the house. Scary because what happened in the book could happen to anyone. It was a great read.
Rating: Summary: Couldn't Put It Down Review: Red Dragon is one of the most exiting, thrilling and twisted books I've ever read. The writing is fantastic and the characters genuine. Both thumbs up - definatly one of Thomas Harris' best works
Rating: Summary: captivating from the first word. Review: The hair on the back of neck stood on end. Fear and excitment sent chills through me, I couldn't put it down.
Rating: Summary: Awesome and Plain Creepy! Review: This is by far the best of Harris' work. It is creepy to think that there are probably people out there just like the Dragon. I am from Missouri and it made me think twice about a lot of things. The book was very realistic. Simply put, it was wonderful!
Rating: Summary: A Ok book Nothing compared to The great Silence of the Lambs Review: If you like Thomas harrises work read everything but this if you read everything of his buy this right now.
Rating: Summary: Let down by so many typos and a predictable ending Review: This starts out so well. The characters are interesting and the plotline intriguing. What goes wrong though is the introduction of Dolarhyde to the reader. I don't think it worked at all. As he was developed he lost his menace and the ludicrous ending is like something from a B-grade movie. The use of abuse as a reason too for Dolarhyde's activities was cliched and predictable. I don't know if it was just my copy but there were so many typos in it by about the thirtieth chapter i'd lost count. It is the latest edition too which seems really bizarre. Could have and probably should have been better than it is. Let's hope Silence of the Lambs proves to be a little bit better.
Rating: Summary: A can't-put-down thriller Review: This book is a can't-put-down thriller. It is as good if not better than the Silence of the Lambs. It is without a doubt better than Hannibal, which I am currently reading and cannot get into no matter how hard I try. Buy this book right away!
