Summary: A Great Book
Review: I have read the later three of Harris's four books, and I am still in awe of them. I first read "The Silence of the Lambs" and then read "Hannibal." I loved them both and bought "Red Dragon." I liked it because of Harris's vivid character portrayls and his ability to make Hannibal Lecter a part of everyone, a small voice in the back of one's head.

Summary: Creepy and brilliant
Review: Red Dragon, the Thomas Harris novel that introduces Dr. Hannibal Lecter, is a brilliant blend of psychological thriller and police procedural, but the focus of psychological profiling by the FBI would not be nearly as interesting were not both the killer and his primary nemisis such interesting characters. Will Graham, the former FBI agent recalled to deal with a serial killer of families, is a psychologically crippled man. Physically injured in his attempt to arrest Hannibal 'the cannibal' Lecter and psychologically scared from the constant proximity of ugly death, he had fled the FBI hoping not to ever have to face that horror again. But he has a gift - an unwelcome gift - he can 'feel' his way into the mind of a killer. One of the creepiest scenes in the book has him inhabiting a crime scene where a family was cruelly murdered and imagining what the killer saw and why he wanted to see it that way. The killer himself, Francis Dolarhyde, is equally fascinating. A worker in a photo shop, he selects his victims from watching their home movies. He also has a secret delusional world, which the killings are ceremonial fodder for. Lecter, himself, plays only a minor but important role.

Harris is a very good writter and occasionally achieves brilliance in scenes that, when they were written, were like nothing thriller readers had ever experienced before. With this book and Silence of the Lambs, he single handedly created the psycho/serial killer sub genre that flooded the mystery market in recent years. But he was first and best at this kind of thing.

The only thing I can fault the book for is the very artificial set of false conclusions at the end of the story. The repeated scenes after which one might expect THE END only to have another brush with the villain, strained credulity and seemed forced after the powerful story leading up to it. That said, this is a great read - and lingers in the memory for a long time.

Summary: If You Liked Silence of the Lambs...
Review: You'll also enjoy "The Red Dragon." More of the same although, chronologically, 'Dragon' came first. Clarice Starling, the proponent of 'Lambs', didn't appear in this novel, but the book possesses the same intensity and attention to detail as 'Lambs'. The all male cast is interesting, with well-developed characters, and the 'bad guy' is focused not on large women, as in Lambs, but on urban, middle-class families. I haven't yet read 'Hannibal', but I look forward to it.

Summary: An excellent novel by an excellent author
Review: Thomas Harris is probably one of the most engaging writers in America today. This book proves that.

This terrifying masterpiece is set 7 years before the OTHER masterpiece which would follow,I'm talking of course about SOTL.

This is an awesome read, much better than the movie, although that was a good try and did manage to capture the spirit of Mr.Harris' novel in some scenes-particularly those involving Lecter.

There is more to be found here than blood and guts, which is just a cheap gimmick anyway. There is text and subtext. In the words you'll discover another world-one inhabited by such nightmarish figures as Francis Dolarhyde and his insanely tyranical grandmother. This is not some place you wanna be,yet you can't help but reading on,page after page.

Summary: Red Dragon
Review: The Novel "Red Dragon" by Thomas Harris is very interesting. it was very intense and fast moving. It kept me on the edge of my seat the whole time. I expecialy like all the gore and violence, but some readers may find the murder scenes untaistfull because they are so graphic. This story kept me curiose throught the entire book. I could figure out who was doing this or why. This book was a great thriller and was such a fun book to read. I can't wait to go out and buy another book from Thomas Harris.

Summary: So good, I had to buy it a 2nd time!
Review: Red Dragon was the first Thomas Harris book i ever red. I have to say this book is by far one of the best books ever written. This comes from a person who does note like to read books. Red dragon is a book that you can not put down. This book was better than watching a movie. It will keep you on the edge of your seat from start to finish. This is the best book I have ever read.

Summary: Murder by numbers. 123....
Review: The story of Francis, the "incarnation" of Blake's Red Dragon has a descriptive insight into the mind of an "insane" serial killer.

Summary: "Excellent" - from a person who reads 1 book a year
Review: I fascinated as I was with SOTL - I thought that I would read Red Dragon while I was on vacation. I could not put this book down, and this is coming from a college student who only reads when he absolutely has too. This book was intense and scared the daylights out of me. I recommend this book to anyone who likes suspense and mystery.

Summary: Scared the wits out of Me!
Review: Just the way he picked his victims is enough to make your skin crawl. As usual Harris takes you into the mind of the killer whether you like it or not....you can't put it down!

Summary: "Silence of the Lambs" was great, but this was better!
Review: I read this book years ago just after seeing the movie "Silence of the Lambs" and I was worried that I'd be disappointed. I wasn't. This was the perfect lead up to the "Silence of the Lambs" book, and I thought the characters were fantastic. As long as you don't read this thinking it's a book about Hannibal, it's hard to find fault with it. Harris is a great author regardless of who he's writing about. This was the book that started it for me. I then went on to read "Silence of the Lambs" and found it more satisfying since I had read "Red Dragon" first. Don't let this one slip by!
