Summary: Send Your Sales Soaring High
Review: "The Psychology of Persuasion" by Kevin Hogan is a must for those who work with people on a daily basis. The book utilizes many techniques and teaches the reader through example how to apply the information to persuade others. Through learning these fundamental skills you will be able to speak more persuasively, and enhance your communication with clients, customers, students, friends and everyone you come into contact with. If I had six or more stars to give this book, I would.

Summary: Not very persuasive...
Review: The author definitely made some interesting points; however, I found myself skipping sentences and then paragraphs and finally, pages. The only "evidence" that Hogan provided in order to support his arguments (throughout the entire book) were simulated dialogues between an imaginary person and a Master Persuader. The dialogues, however, were poor. They were not realistic or informative. The best part of the book is Hogan's consistent references to other books, which end up composing a great list of must-reads. A good alternative is Robert Cialdini's "Influence: The Psychology of Persuasion."

Summary: Hogan will get you!
Review: Don't pick this book up unless you are prepared to buy it, for Dr. Hogan is very persuasive. It will pull you right in. Quite simply put - he knows his stuff. And he will teach you how to be like him. Persuasive. And since the book is about the psychology of persuasion - what better review could I give?

For anyone who needs to have this type of tool in their arsenal it's a must. For many professions it should be absolute required reading.

Summary: The Psychology of Persuasion...Put to the test
Review: The Psychology of Persuasion is a book with a value well over double its weight in gold! As a student at the University of Wisconsin, I have been able to utilize the tools and skills which are included within the book to increase my grades on papers and speaking assignments. Professionaly the information has assisted me in communicating effectively with clients and audiences. The Psychology of Persuasion is written to teach the "how to" to anyone who is going to be placed into a persuasion setting and persuade the other individual(s) ethically and efficiently. Kevin Hogan is able to write in a manor which makes the information easy to understand and become instantly incorporated into your behavior in any persuasion setting. Recently, I utilized many of the strategies to create promotional materials in both print and video. The quality increased and cost decreased on printing because of the persuasion skills which I have learned to utilize. The investment into this book will improve results and give you an advantage in any persuasive setting which will also make it more enjoyable and fun to be there!

Summary: A top notch guide to truly effective persuasion strategies.
Review: This fantastic book has helped me to save a great deal of money and really reduce aggravation in my life. It is written in an easily understandable manner that instantly makes sense. Therefore, I was able to put a lot Dr. Hogan's statergies immediately to use. If I had not owned this book, I would have lost at least the $1200.00 that I saved on my new car because I was able to negotiate it for a purchase price of $1200 UNDER invoice. In my business I have also benefitted from Dr. Hogan's powerful communications skills because I have increased my income due to the techniques outlined in the book. In chapter 11 is a powerful method of getting what you want while still having a win-win situation for all persons involved. I could continue on about all the different aspects of this book but my final comment is this: if you don't own this book, it is costing you money and happiness.

Summary: Great book for those seeking to improve communication skills
Review: Kevin Hogan has authored a book that can be a great assest to anyone wanting to improve their communication skills and interpersonal relationships. I especially liked his information on Outcome-Based Thinking (p 30ff) and Chapter 7 (p 137ff)Communication Styles. Chaplain Paul G. Durbin, Ph.D. Director of Pastoral Care, Pendleton Memorial Methodist Hosptial, New Orleans, LA.

Summary: Actually, it's the psychology of persuasion + sociology
Review: With regard to sales, you get a reserve of persuasive vocabary from which you can choose to build a very effective pitch. He uses sociology in a large amount to help guide your approach to certain sectors of the population. The latter really helps those more in the marketing/ad. realm. The goal-setting section and the OBT are exemplary for people like you and me who get lost without having a hold on what you ACTUALLY WANT from life. YES! SAY IT! Following those principles WILL make you look important AND powerful to others. The latter part of the book, which relies heavily on NLP is a nice summary of the books INSTANT RAPPORT (Rob. Brooks) and SELLING THE WAY YOUR CUSTOMER BUYS(Sadovsky, Marvin). I gave it a 4 because I'm still stuck on the latter books in relation to my job & life.

Summary: Bible of Persuasion
Review: I saw Kevin Hogan speak last week. Excellent presenter. Dynamic and as knowledgable about persuasion as anyone I've ever listened to. I read his book this week and found it to match his character and integrity (and fun spirit) on stage. The book offers new insights for an investment counselor. Interestingly the content of his presentation didn't overlap the book in any way. That in itself was interesting. I think the book goes along side some of the names like Zig Ziglar, Tony Robbins, Brian Tracy and Jim Rohn. I know I'll be reading his stuff for a long time to come.

Pick up The Power of Persuasion and I believe you will close more sales and make more money. I'm making changes in my business already!

Summary: A MUST for all sales and business people.
Review: The Psychology of Persuasion is one of those books that is a MUST for all salespeople and business communicators. Mr. Hogan's ability to take researched based materials and apply them to practical daily business scenarios is a rare find in the business book market. So many other books in the area of persuasion, influence and communication are either too deep in collegiate theory with no practical business application or too shallow with just feel good hype; this book is designed for those of us that own businesses and communicate with people on a daily basis. The principles found in The Psychology of Persuasion changed the way that I communicate with clients and has increased my yearly revenues. I have personally bought several copies of this book to share with my business associates.
