Summary: You will benefit from this book, I know I did!
Review: If you are into self-improvement this book is a must! Not only does it help you understand how important communication style is with others, it also offers the reader many opportunities to apply the information to help yourself. I've read numerous self-help books regarding sales motivation, weight loss, self-hypnosis, ending procrastination etc etc. Hogan's book puts things into a nice "easy to use" enjoyable package.
Whether you are trying to help others reach your conclusion, or help yourself become more motivated in whatever areas they are, this book is top notch.

Summary: Hogan does it again!
Review: Dr.Hogan does it again! This book provides the reader with easy to use strategies regarding persuasion techniques that ACTUALLY WORK! Unlike some books that are for professional use or hard to conceptualize, Kevin demonstrates his knowledge in a way that every reader can not only relate to, but find it easy to understand and implement in their life. His mastery of NLP and Hypnosis not only adds to his expertise and credibility but his thirst to constantly share that knowledge exceeds most other authors. This book holds prime real estate on my bookshelf and will yours too. A DEFINATE READ!

Summary: Science meets the Art of Persuasion
Review: The Psychology of Persuasion is written for the person who wants to influence others. Hogan reveals more communication and influence secrets in one book than you might expect possible. The phallic paradigm of persuasion begins with the concept of Win/Win (which the author clearly believes in and repeats over and over throughout the text) and finishes with some very complex and advanced persuasion techniques that are difficult to describe in a book review.

Having been in market research for seven years, I can tell you that his insights into what works and what doesn't is pretty accurate. I also learned a great deal I hadn't come across in my work with P&G.

Specifically, the section about power words is worth a great deal to a person running their own business or for a salesperson. (It's also nice to have this information as a mother of a teenager!)

The next information that is striking (and there are some basics in the book like building rapport, elementary sales tools, and the like that make this useful for beginners as well as those of us who use this material to make a living)is the detailed discussions about nonverbal communication and strategic movement. I've never seen discussions of strategic movement in any book and the body language components are mature and insightful. Everything seems well researched and ready for use.

Another very nice benefit of this book is the subject of collecting intelligence. It seems that most everyone in the influence and persuasion professions have ignored this element and Hogan pulls a rabbit out of his hat here. Using simple examples, he shows how to really gather useful intelligence whether you are a marketer with a big budget or a small business person.

The most exciting material is the second half of the book. Here Hogan describes advanced techniques of persuasion that, once again, I have never seen anyone discuss. What again seems like magic is described carefully and with a simple but scientific precision.

Appropriate to news events of the year 2001, brainwashing is discussed in detail in the book and in light of current events, these revelations should be read by all.

The Psychology of Persuasion is a fun read. It is written so that you can be more influential with your kids, your boss or your business dealings.

The only drawback of this book was that most of the stories are about small business people. Those of us in corporate America have to extrapolate how to use these one on one tools, or small group strategies to the much larger audience of America and Western Europe. Aside from that, there isn't anything to complain about.

This was a big win for me.

Summary: Another winner by Kevin Hogan
Review: The first book I read by Kevin Hogan was Irresistible Attraction. I thought it was great. Then a friend recommended this one and it is even better! What makes Kevin so great is that he doesn't talk down to you. He makes complicated subjects easy to understand. The Psychology of Persuasion book teaches literally anyone how to build rapport, and communicate effectively. The title may scare some people off as being a book for college professors. It isn't. It's based on real life experiences and while he draws on the academics, he doesn't bore you with it. This book reads fun, exciting, interesting and you really feel confident when you make your sales calls after knowing just what makes people tick!

Summary: A great all-around text
Review: If you're looking for an overview of how to manip-er, I mean influence people, or Chapter 7 of my Virus of the Mind ("How To Start a Cult") was your favorite, then you won't want to waste a moment before ordering hypnotherapy guru Kevin Hogan's outstanding book on the psychology of persuasion. If reading this doesn't make you hungry for more about NLP, brainwashing, sales trickery, and more I'll be surprised. This is a great first book on persuasion to read, and even if you think you know it all you may be surprised at the perspective Dr. Hogan puts on it.

Summary: If you own your own business, or are in sales, GET IT!
Review: Rather than disclose all of Dr. Hogan's secrets in a book review, let me simply state that if you either own your own business, or are in sales, get this book! The author does a superb job of examining various persuasion techniques in a manner that will help you implement an effective plan.

Summary: Secrets Exposed
Review: Ethical influence has rarely been dealt with so carefully, credibly and intelligently. The blend of NLP with solid research from social psychology and the author's personal experience make this a fascinating read. My only concern about the Psychology of Persuasion is that this book seems to reveal too many sociological and interpersonal communication "secrets." One hopes that the book buyer will follow Hogan's admonition to make sure every communciation is really a Win/Win or No Deal. The book is top notch and should be owned by anyone in business, sales or marketing. I think the section on brainwashing could have been more extensive. It is already a great self defense tool against cults but expansion on key ideas would have made it even more invaluable. I thought the master persuader chapters were some of the most advanced material I've seen. The book was relatively easy to read and the exercises added to my understanding of the more complex strategies. The discussion about values alone was probably worth the price of the book.

Summary: A mimic
Review: This book is good, but EVERYTHING here is taken from Robert B. Cialdini "Influence : The Psychology of Persuasion".

My opinion is: buy the latter.

Summary: Great Introduction / Overview / Survey of Persuasion
Review: This is a great book on the subject of persuasion. Mr. Hogan offers many practical discussions of persuasion technology. There is enough meat here for you to increase your communication skills. And if you want, he covers just about every compliance technique I have read in other books, so you can use the book as a springboard for future studies. As other readers mentioned, Mr. Caidini also wrote a good book on the subject, but this book summarizes all that stuff (it's really not too complex). So, GET THE PSYCHOLOGY OF PERSUASION FIRST.

Summary: A true How-To book you want NOW!
Review: I've read lots of persuasive books, from the Bible to Dale Carnegie to the numerous titles available here on Amazon, but this is the first one that ties all of that together and makes it actually USEFUL. I could tell you this book is better than the others around today, but I won't because you'll want to decide for yourself when you read it. But for my money, Hogan has persuasion down pat. From NLP and hypnosis language patterns to body language, it's all here. I've already made more money in my business from using just a few of the techniques and suggestions in the book. If I ever master all of the stuff you'll find in here, you'll see a listing for MY book on Amazon about how I made my first million dollars! Did I mention that there's also some great stuff in here about relationships too? Anybody will gain something positive and useful from reading this book. Get a copy now!
