Summary: Sorry but 'The Poet' was Connelly's best work to date...
Review: After having read 'The Poet' and finding it to be absolutely one of the BEST crime/thrillers I had ever read, I figured that Connelly had also written other great stories as well...so I picked up 'Concrete Blonde' and decided to give it a go. After 200 pages I finally gave up. I can't say as though I thought it was bad, but it was SO different than 'The Poet' (which I LOVED if you couldn't tell) that I was totally disappointed with how this one started out. Maybe my concentration was off that couple days when I tried to read it, I don't know--but the end result is I just couldn't finish it. But I WILL say this: For what little I DID read, I felt was well written, just not nearly as compelling as my 'other' favorite...Sorry to the Harry fans.

Summary: THE BEST ONE YET!!!
Review: This, the third book in Michael Connelly's Harry Bosch series, is without a doubt my favorite so far. Having met and fell in love with Harry in Connelly's first book, The Black Echo, I am always thrilled to begin those first few pages -- it's like meeting up with an old friend you haven't seen for awhile. This old friend is a Vietnam vet still traumatized by going through enemy tunnels while on duty as a tunnel rat in "Nam". Now he's an LAPD homicide detective so he's still being traumatized on a daily basis.

This thriller finds Harry not only on the streets solving crimes but also in the courtroom defending himself in a civil suit brought by the widow of a serial killer known as "The Dollmaker". She feels that her "serial killer" husband's civil rights were denied when Harry shot him to death without cause. At the time, Harry thought the alleged perpetrator was reaching for a weapon -- it was later revealed that he was just reaching for his toupee. This "dollmaker" nickname came about because the killer had a practice of putting makeup on his victims, making them look like painted up dolls. Now, years later, this widow is painting Bosch out to be a vigilante with a dubious past of his own hiding behind an LAPD badge and shooting people without reason. Bosch feels justified in killing the Dollmaker four years ago but, when a copy cat body shows up and associated letters resembling those that the Dollmaker used to send begin to appear, even Harry has his doubts. The courtroom scenes are compelling and the new copycat investigation is more than routine.

If you're into the mystery/thriller genre and want to sink your teeth into a series with a great protagonist and even greater writing and storylines, try Connelly's series featuring Harry "Hieronymus" Bosch. To find out what really makes Harry tick and to find out where he got the ridiculous name of Hieronymus, you should read the books in order starting with the first one, The Black Echo, continuing on to The Black Ice and then rewarding your efforts with this one, my personal favorite, The Concrete Blonde.

Summary: Blondes are more fun!!
Review: This is the third Connelly book I have read after Blood Work and Black Echo. Connelly's stories involve more than a great mystery which keeps you reading) but Harry Bosch is a very likeable character. I find him heroic but with many flaws. Because of this I want to read more stories about Harry Bosch.

Summary: Connelly draws you in until the end
Review: The Concrete Blonde tells one of many tales regarding Detective Harry Bosch. He is currently in court for the reckless murder of a supposed serial killer named the Dollmaker. But he gets a note saying he killed the wrong man and now must track down the new killer while being in court.

This novel is a personal one of sorts for Harry as he conflicts with his current girlfriend, Sylvia. Harry must battle his personal and business conflicts simultaneously.

The Concrete Blonde supplies us with a fast moving, intense read that keeps us wondering until the end. Connelly has managed to describe a single character superbly in Bosch. I plan on reading all the Bosch novels to get caught up with this great character.

Summary: As good as it can be
Review: Connelly is probably one the best writers of these years. Those of you who like Crumley or Ellroy will be delighted to discover this author. I think that Connelly's book will be sooner or later adapted by one of the majors of Hollywood.

Summary: Mr. Connelly helped Harry Bosch and both made it together
Review: A rich top notch gripping thriller, this book is the ideal company for courtroom action and true crime mistery lovers looking for a good read. This my third Connelly book after The Black Echo and The Black Ice, (I recommend to read them in this order) and Mr Connelly, has again as in the others, developed his unique skills too create fast paced action packed suspense and to easily manipulate the reader the way he wants providing also a thorough knowledge of the setting, the city of LA with its dregs. At the same time that Harry Bosch is on trial for pulling the trigger "too quick", he gets in his crosshairs several suspects to investigate (one at a time), and that brings along excellent opportunities to unfold the outstanding suspense when he follows them, in addition the trial provides further entertainment, great court action, and more positive confusion. Unfortunately, I can see some flaws; the suspects are investigated for reasons not too clear, (looks like if you are close to Harry he will investigate you), on top of that our hero makes it again catching the bad guy employing his great proficiency and brainy capacity, but this time he gets too much help of "his father" Mr. Connelly who turns around all the events for Harry Bosch the easy way with the typical ending. Why that easy Mr.Connelly?, you are an excellent writer, the ending is not your trademark "master twist" style

Summary: Outstanding his best yet.
Review: This is Detective Harry Boschs best adventure to date. Michael Connelly does a great job. I'm ordering The Last Coyote right now.

Summary: ***ANOTHER HOME RUN FOR CONNELLY***
Review: TREMENDOUS!!! Connelly did it again. Great plot and character development. Michael Connelly is as artful a sculpter of words as Michelangelo was with marble. My only regret is that I did not start at the beginning. I did not start with his first book, THE BLACK ECHO and read his Harry Bosch series in sequential order. ***Please do not make the same mistake. Start with THE BLACK ECHO then go on to the others; you will more fully enjoy Connelly's masterful creations. Also look for his latest--VOID MOON--(coming to a bookstore near you, soon.)

Summary: Not Michael's Best Effort
Review: Despite developing one too many culprits the guilty party was obvious. Ending was too John Waynish (i.e. kissing his horse and riding off into the sunset.) To paraphrase the homeless man, "justice was not happening."

Summary: An engrossing first Harry Bosch read.
Review: This is the first Harry Bosch book I've read. In fact, it's my first Michael Conelly and I find it very engrossing, entertaining and enlightening. I was hooked with the plot and at the same time, I was being fascinated with the theme of the story -- justice -- how it was being carried out and how people view it. Great. I'm on my way to the books tore to buy The Last Coyote. I can't wait to find out what happened to Bosch's mother.
