Rating: Summary: A Compelling Read Review: As stated, I found this book to be a very compelling read, even though I live in the Delaware Valley and followed this story closely in the local news. The intricate details and obviously well researched information by the author of this case and the two families involved only emphasizes this unreal tragedy. Since I did follow this as a news story, I was astounded to read some of the background information, quite often overlooked when news coverage is limited to a few sensational headlines. I found this to be a well written story which I couldn't put down.
Rating: Summary: Another excellent book by Ann Rule! Review: Ann Rule wrote another great book telling us as much as possible about all people involved in this case. She kept my interest right until the end. Her curiosity peaks on a level with her readers and answers just about any question you have that can possibly be answered about the victim as well as the actions of the perpetrator. All of her books do not get published soon enough to suit me. I am an avid reader!
Rating: Summary: Much Too Tedious Review: Rule does a decent job of piecing together a three-year saga that she didn't start covering until after Capano was sentenced to death. Unfortunately, to compensate for her absence, she numbs readers with meaningless details. Another sore point: She tries to create a sympathetic character out of Capano mistress Debby MacIntyre, who bought the murder weapon and played (?) dumb for two years. The guess here is that the sympathetic portrayal is the author's payback for Debby's cooperation with the book. For truer accounts, try either Fatal Embrace or The Summer Wind. Both books were written by excellent investigative reporters who covered the case.
Rating: Summary: Very Compelling, a page turner Review: I really enjoyed this book, as I have with all of Ann Rule's. The story moved very very quickly, and I had a hard time putting the book down. Being in the Western United States, all I had heard of this case prior to Ann Rule's book was on the news, or in People or Vanity Fair Magazine. The end was very poignant when we found about about the judge's ruling, and testimony from Anne Marie's brother. I hope the Delaware Dept of Corrections keeps a very short leash on Mr. Capano! Ann Rule's books are always worth reading due to her style and explanations. Coming from Colorado, I can certainly understand all of the negative reviews from the Delaware folk, as we out here have heard about as much as we need to about the Ramsey murder case. I think no matter who wrote about that poor girl, I would have a hard time being objective, as it appears the readers from Delaware are in these Amazon reviews........
Rating: Summary: don't let this one go Review: this is a great true crime tome! you can feel the emotions that everyone must of been going thru. gut wrenching!
Rating: Summary: And Never Let Her Go Review: If you like true crime, you will want to read everything that Ann Rule has written. My husband gave me this book for Christmas (quite frankly, I would not have bought a hardcover book, but, heck, it was a gift). The book was very interesting, although not impossible to put down. Written very well, without too much involvement with explanations and background. It's sad to see how an older married man can "capture" a younger single insecure woman and then destroy her when she tries to break free to begin a new life with an available man her own age. It's sad to see how a power-ridden family can almost get away with murder. Great Book!
Rating: Summary: Superbly written true crime Review: It's been many, many years since I've stayed up all night to finish a book, but this one did it for me. Ann Rule is in top form in this book; her writing is quite well done, unlike many in the true crime genre. The book flows, and while no stone is left unturned, one doesn't feel exhausted and distracted by detail. At first, I wasn't interested in purchasing this book, believing that since the case received a lot of national publicity and was so recent, I'd know beforehand what I'd read. But I was utterly wrong. This is really Ann Rule's best book yet, and one of the best books I've ever read in true crime.
Rating: Summary: Couldn't put book down, READ IT, if you're a true crime fan! Review: I treated myself to this book over Christmas vacation, and I almost never buy True Crime books in hardback. However, the narcissism of this perpetrator was so amazing to me, I couldn't wait for the paperback. WELL WORTH EVERY PENNY, the book did not disappoint. Ann Rule is able to organize tremendous amounts of information into a highly readable story with no sensationalism and great psychological insight. I was hooked right up until the last minute. The judge's sentencing was the best part of the book--I wanted to punch my fist into the air in triumph--it was emotionally and intellectually satisfying to see justice done and to read such a wise commentary on the commission of a heinous crime and the multitudes of people damaged by the murderer prior to and after the murder itself. Done with the right amount of emotion, intelligence, and thriller-level pace, this is a terrific read! The insight into the mind of a narcissist and those he was able to manipulate and control is truly fascinating--and frightening!
Rating: Summary: The Best, as Usual Review: I've been an Ann Rule fan since she wrote "Stranger Beside Me," about Ted Bundy. I've read nearly all of her books, and her current work, "And Never Let Her Go," ranks at the top of my list. It's a page turner, and it doesn't matter that you begin the book knowing the outcome! Ann Rule expertly draws the reader into the lives of the victim and her slayer, and manages to evoke true empathy for the victim. A sense of outrage pervades the book, as well it should. There is also the realization that evil knows no socio-economic class, which makes it a very scary eye-opener! In many ways, this book is the only real justice the victim, Anne Marie Fahey, will ever have. It stands as a true memorial, and no one who reads this book will ever forget her. It is easy to see how Ann Rule gains the confidence of the people involved, in that her facts are impeccably researched, and her portrayal of the lives of the victims is sensitive to a fault. I can't wait until the next book by Ann Rule is published!
Rating: Summary: Outstanding true crime thriller Review: "...And Never Let Her Go" is an excellent true crime novel based on the real life murder of Anne Marie Fahey by her lover, Thomas Capano. The case drew national attention because Anne Marie was the scheduling secretary for the governor of Delaware. Although I remember reading about the crime in the newspaper and some magazines, Ann Rule's book gives additional insight into what led up to the crime, how the police tracked down the killer, and the subsequent trial. Indepth interviews with the Fahey family and Thomas Capano's other lover, Debby McIntyre, give welcome insight into Anne Marie and Thomas Capano, and allows the reader to see how vulnerable and susceptible Anne Marie was to Capano's manipulations. Rule's book can be enjoyed by those who kept up with the case through the media, and those who may not have heard anything about Anne Marie's murder.
