Summary: Excitement but typical and short
Review: Interesting plot with much excitement, however there is very little depth to the plot and the ending is weak. When converting most books to movies, the majority of the book is stripped out which makes the movie only a shell of the book. In this case, a movie could be written verbatim from the book. This makes for a quick read, fast action but shallower plot and less detail.

Summary: When a good idea occurs to a bad writer
Review: It's very disappointing when such a promising plot gets such poor handling. It's even more disappointing when the result gets so many raves that the browsing suspense fan can't help spending the money to check it out.

We're doing okay until the reason for the hero's problems is explained. Without spoiling anything, I'll just say that it requires two backbreaking suspensions of disbelief: 1) That what happened to him could possibly have happened (no f'ing way, seriously); and 2) that despite this being a highly unusual event, to say the least, when the problems start just two days later, it never occurs to him to make a connection.

The other major problem I had was the modeling of the lead cop in pursuit of our hero very obviously (and clumsily; he has some of the worst dialogue in the book) on Tommy Lee Jones' cop in "The Fugitive." Once he's introduced, and the situation explained, the plotting begins to seriously deteriorate.

I wish someone like Mitchell Smith had thought of this. _That_ would have been a read.

Summary: atrocious waste of time
Review: The only reason I gave this book one star is because zero stars was not an option. There are so many holes in the plot, it takes a huge leap of faith to believe an editor would even bother going forward with this lame effort. This is parody of a thriller, it is so badly structured, not even Mad magazine would use it. It appears the author started writing action scenes, hoping that eventually a plot or some other reason for writing (such as an advance) would become apparent.

Summary: a must read for lovers of thrillers!
Review: this book is full of suspense from the word go. you'll want to read it again after you're done. you will not be disappointed. for readers who enjoy thrillers, here are two more that will not disappoint - "Run" by Neil Winters, and "Narrowback" - not sure of the author's name for the second book. i don't know if you can find these titles on amazon, but search them out in your local bookstore if need be - they are excellent - particularly "Run".

Summary: DIE HARD meets The FUGITIVE!
Review: I can't even remember the circumstances which came about that turned me towards reading 'Verticle Run', but I am VERY happy I took the drive. The ONLY novel that I have EVER read which maintains a pace as fast as this one is 'The Day After Tomorrow' which starts a little faster, but is no less entertaining.

In short, our poor lead character get's ready to go to work and out of nowhere it seems that EVERYONE wants him dead. WHY?? He has absolutely NO idea. When he gets to work at a very tall high rise it just gets worse. Everywhere he goes there is someone new whom he previously thought was a friend trying to end his life. As the story progresses, this mystery is slowly unveiled, like an onion, a little at a time. Mr. Garber makes us literally salivate for the REAL reason all this is happening, all at the same time moving the plot at a breakneck pace--and I'm NOT kidding, this plot MOVES.

It wasn't long into this book that I began wo wonder WHO was going to play the lead in the movie-version. 'Course it doesn't matter because they would probably screw it up like Hollywood ALWAYS does. Trust me, IF they made it JUST like the book, not only would it be FANTASTIC, but it'd be a HUGE blockbuster, too. I have recommended this book to 7 people, all of which have thanked me over and over again for turning them onto 'Verticle Run' (I think Mr. Garber might owe me some royalties I'm not sure...). So here is my PERSONAL endorsement of this book: Pick it up today and enjoy the ride at faster than the speed of sound. It isn't going to stretch your intellect, let's be honest...but it WILL give you a few hours of fun. C'mon, we don't watch action/adventure movies and read the books in hopes of becoming SMART, now DO we? We watch and read them 'cuz they are FUN, and that is EXACTLY what 'Verticle Run' is, a PURE adrenaline rush of FUN. Grab it today and enjoy.

Summary: Vertical Run
Review: Compelling right from page one. Its fast-paced and thrilling. I've heard that its going to be made into a movie and Mel Gibson or Harrison Ford will play Dave Elliot. I always pictured Sam Elliot playing Dave, but that just MHO. For those Joseph Garber fans, he has another book out entitled "In a Perfect State". I don't think its being published in the US but you can get it from Waterstone.com, a company in the UK.

Summary: If only Paramount didn't own the rights to "David Elliott"
Review: This is one of the best books I have read in a star-studded cast of action novels. It'll grab your attention early and keep it pressed to the window till the epilogue hits you between the eyes. I'm impatiently waiting for Joseph Garber's next effort!

Summary: YOU Won't be able to put this book down!
Review: This Audiobook ranks as one of the best books ever put on Audio. The reader Stephen Lang begins introducing you the listener to the various voices and characteristics of each person onvolved. I always warn people who listen to this book to go to the bathroom first, fill the car with a full tank of gas and be prepared... this book has no pause.

It starts out mellow and sweet, you almost think this is a spiritual or self help book on relaxation. Don't let the beginning fool you. When the gun gets pulled on him, all the way to the most interesting and most discussed ending - this books will hold your attention. I personally have gotten over 500 people to listen to this book.

Summary: The Perfect Summer Read!
Review: Summer's here and the time is right for reading at the beach. And this is the book to take to the beach with you! Dave Elliot is just a regular businessman who, like the rest of us, only figuratively thinks that his boss is out to kill him. Until the morning that his boss pulls a gun on him! ...This is a wonderful read and the perfect summer novel.

Summary: Even Better The Second Time Around
Review: It's been three years since I first read this book and I enjoyed it so much (and no other David Elliot books have appeared on the market), I decided to read it again. It held me spellbound this time around too. This is an extremely well written suspense novel with non-stop action from beginning to end. Subtle humor and intriguing examples of Elliot's ingenuity add the finishing touches to an absolutely stunning novel. I've been waiting, not so patiently, for David Elliot to return in another story. Until then, I guess I'll just have to keep rereading this one. Not a difficult task.
