Rating: Summary: Some answers to common questions about my book Review: I'd like to thank everyone who read Vertical Run and took the trouble to post their reaction here. I wish I had some of your comments while the book was still in draft -- they'd have helped. To answer the questions I've been most frequently asked: 1. My next book, In A Perfect State, will be published by Simon & Schuster in the U. K. early next year, and doubtless will be available via Amazon. As for when it will be published in the U. S. and by whom -- well that's a long, long story. 2. I've no information about the status of the film. Writers are at the bottom of the Hollywood food chain; I don't speak to them; they don't speak to me; we are both happier that way. 3. The book was inspired by in the late 1970s a series of bomb threats against my own office -- and by the ensuing evacuations. I began writing it in 1980, but the catastrophic failure of a first generation PC wiped out all my files. Disheartened, I didn't return to it for more than a decade. 4. The climactic Vietnam incident is based on a real story. During the ensuing cover-up I saw the photos and interviewed the participants. 5. Because Warner Brothers owns Vertical Run's principal characters, as per the contract, "in perpetuity throughout the universe and elsewhere," I have no motive to write a sequel. However, I retain rights to the minor characters (see Forbes Magazine August 28, 1995 for details); they will appear in subsequent novels, including In A Perfect State. Thanks again for all the kind words, Joe G.
Rating: Summary: I've been waiting for the movie for the last 2 years! Review: I picked it up and couldn't put it down. I got everyone I know who reads to read it and they all thought it was great. I know it was supposed to made into a movie and could picture Harrison Ford in the lead. When is it coming out??
Rating: Summary: Can't wait for the sequel or the movie!!!! Review: Garber did a fantastic job in writing a story that kept you turning those pages! Detective John McClane pack your bags; Dave Elliot has arrived!! I have recommended this to ALL of my friends and they loved it!! Keep up the good work!!!
Rating: Summary: Vertical Run is an amazingly excellent book. Review: This is a book that grabs your attention right from the start. You can't put it down. Even my mother who didn't like it vey much finished it in less than two days. It is exciting, interesting, and surprising. It is an unpredictable book that you don't want to miss. The ending is vey unpredictable and you will like it.
Rating: Summary: Ridiculous Review: This is not writing this is screenwriting. The story is a logical disaster. It's silly and not the least exciting.
Rating: Summary: THE BEST BOOK I'VE EVER HEARD Review: I've now listened to the book several times with different friends, each found the book thrilling can't wait for the next one to come out .... Joseph if you're reading this hurry up
Rating: Summary: What a knockout!!!!! Review: I read this book for a book report and I couldn't put it down! This guy goes to work and is wanted dead by everyone he knows, I mean suspense dosen't get any better then this!!!! If you have enough free time, pick up a copy of this, because you won't be marking the pages!!!!!
Rating: Summary: Look at all these great reveiws!! Review: This book is awesome, great action, great characters, If you enjoyed the non-stop action of the movie DIE HARD, read this book. MR. Garber, write more!!!!!!!
Rating: Summary: One good book. Review: Couldn't put it down.Just as good as "Thirteen Mountain"by John R.Reed.As a matter of fact I think Garber & Reed are two of the best action writers of today.Hope Dave Elliot returns.
Rating: Summary: The movie should be fantastic Review: A thoroughly enjoyable book, if somewhat of a cliche. The story is thrilling, but I found the flashbacks to be not very creative; it's been done thousands of times already! Still, the story is intriguing and much more compelling than most thrillers. Just hope the movie isn't merely a knockoff of Die Hard.
