Rating: Summary: Glad the store allowed me to return it Review: I have to say, I surprised myself that I even bought this book being that I had purchased her other book when it came out and found it full of doctrinal errors. I picked this up and must have read an okay paragraph, and thought maybe I'd give her another chance. But this book deeply disturbed my spirit. She takes scripture out of context and makes it to fit into her already preconceived program. She gives us "her" view of the Savior . . . like "Jesus is my boyfriend", not the Sovereign God that He is. Once she referred to Him as "Master of the Universe" . . . (I thought that was He-man's title). He's not hear to meet our every little whim, our little genie in a bottle. His name is not to be used to get whatever we want. She tells us we can get anything we want, as long as we use the name of Jesus Christ. Not the way the Word teaches: I Jn 5:14-15 14 This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to His Will, he hears us. 15 And if we know that he hears us-- whatever we ask-- we know that we have what we asked of him. (NIV) . . . According to HIS WILL. Christians are to serve Him and obey Him and Love Him, but first we must get an accurate portrait of Him through His Word. Gwen mentioned that she came to know Christ through answered prayer. (We all know satan can perform counterfeit miracles and give counterfeit signs. That's why it's so important to stay in the Word to know the Truth.) Well I came to know Him by His Gospel and by the Holy Spirit, and now I communicate to Him through prayer. There is not enough room here to go into all the details of the problems with this book. I find it sad to find her picture all over this book. She has sold so many copies of her first book along with the money made from her program in churches, but yet her leadership is all volunteer, and this is not a ministry. It is a business. Another book to capitalize on our Sovereign Lord. Keep seeking the Lord and get into His Word without the help of Gwen's confused views.
Rating: Summary: One Word....RESEARCH! Review: I just want to encourage everyone to research Gwen Shamblin on the internet before becoming involved in any of the weigh down programs or reading her books. You might be surprised at what you'll find out. One good place to start is The Remnant Fellowship Church.

Rating: Summary: Too much like videos Review: I purchased this book believing that it would be different from what I had already read and heard from Weigh Down Workshop. The book was good, for someone who has never been through the program. However, if you are a Weigh Downer looking for a fresh or boosting perspective, this may not be what you are searching for because the writing seems to be taken word-for-word from the seminar videos. (I know, I've seen them three times) Don't get me wrong. The message is still great! This is the BEST way to lose weight and keep it off.
Rating: Summary: A True Heart Relationship with God Review: I read the first book and had trouble sticking with the plan because my relationship with God was not very personal. This second book refers to our problems with any ball and chain around our neck which takes priority in our lives before God. This book has helped me strengthen my relationship with God in a tremendous way. As for other readers who think Shamblin's opinion is off the mark from the Scripture, just know that everyone has a personal relationship with God. Everyone should judge for themselves if this book lines up with scripture. All the references are listed for your own reading and application. What are the consequences of sin, but judgement. If a reader's relationship with God is not very personalized, then perhaps some readers may not understand some of the very personal testimonies in this book. Yes we are all under grace, but God does have favorites (elect), i.e. King David a man after God's own heart. I think it's great that Gwen Shamblin does view God our father with awe and respect but can also rely on Him as her personal "Daddy". Read the book to see for yourselves.
Rating: Summary: The only way to succeed! Review: I've tried just about every diet plan. This book reveals the only plan that works for life. It not only addresses your physical hunger; but, your spiritual hunger, as well. Ms. Shamblin has plugged in to THE Source!
Rating: Summary: Rise Above Review: If you are tired of being overweight and you want a solution, then read this book. It deals with the heart of the problem: greed for food! I myself have found success with turing to God when I want food. This book will change your life forever, no doubt about that!
Rating: Summary: A phenomenal piece of religious-dieting-garbage. Review: Okay I am not an overweight person, nor am I overly religious. I did not read the entire book but merely glimpsed at some of the pages and was amazed at how preachy and bizarre this book is. She speaks of the Bible as if we are all small African children, so pathetically interested in her spiel as if to supplement starvation. I am not Christian, but her denial of the Trinity Doctrine will go against many of your beliefs, saying: The Bible teaches us that the Son doesn't even know the day or the hour, but only the Father. "No one knows about that day or hour, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father" (Mark 13:32). How could the same "being" keep a secret from part of the Godhead if indeed there is one Head and not two separate beings? I believe that Jesus and God are two separate beings. I believe that Jesus is our Lord (referenced hundreds of times) and our God (referenced approximately three times), but I believe that the God of Jesus is God the Father. Jesus is not God the Father. Sorry Mrs. Shamblin, I would prefer going to Heaven than reading your book to lose a few pounds.
Rating: Summary: Rise Above Review: Thank you Gwen for following where God leads. I have read this book twice, and lent it to others. It explains how to get to the root of the problem. Helped to get me motivated to stay on my journey to the promise land. This is not a gt it quick, diet. Gwen shows us that it is not worldly diets or the fads that are the problem, it is our hearts and minds. It is what we worship, (the food), that is the problem. This is truly a gift from God, for us to use to get out of the slavery of over eating.
Rating: Summary: Folks I've got good news and bad news. Review: The good news: This book changed my life. I read her first book "the weigh down diet" and then I read this one and as a result of utilizing many of the principles in them I lost 100lbs in 9 months. There is truth in these books because I struggled with my weight for 20 years and NOTHING worked. I am free from ever being fat again. In addition to the 100lbs I lost 12 inches on my waist. I look and feel like a different person. I actually had to make a scrap book because when I looked in the mirror I didn't recognize myself. More good news: My relationship with God skyrocketed to new heights; I added a second career and my marriage got better because I lost a lot of internal anger with the weight. The Bad news: You have to read these books and think. For me that wasn't a problem but it might be for people looking for all the answers in one place. 2000 years ago all the answers were in one place... Jesus. And unlike Gwen I follow the reformed tradition that believes that Jesus IS God. I think I was able to lose the weight because I applied the truth I found in her book to the truth I already knew. Some of the things she says are wacky and she has some heretical doctrine but that doesn't mean that God didn't give her any truth it just means that she's a sinner like us all. If you look for problems about Gwen you will find them and it won't take long but that's not the point. The point is, can you lose weight if you do what she says in the book? The Point: Get the book. Use your heart, your mind and your spirit and find the truth. Overweight people need the truth because there are a lot of lies out there. Pray for the truth and the truth will set you free. Not Gwen. Not the book. The truth. You will lose weight. I did.
