Review: I read this book in the summer of 1994, when it was first published as a paperback. Over 7 years later and I still can't get over how great WITHOUT REMORESE was--and is. I'm a Clancy fan to begin with, having read all of his books except for RED OCTOBER and let me tell you, this book is different. It focuses for the most part on one man--John Kelly--and how he is transformed by his own violence, his role in Vietnam and the nurturing of the CIA to become the menacing individual now known as John Clark.
Excellent work, Mr. Clancy!

Summary: Heavy-handed justice
Review: I'm a big fan of Tom Clancy's thrillers. Unfortunately, most of what makes them enjoyable to me is sadly lacking in this novel - the intricate global conflicts between various countries and political groups, the gobs of military technology, the inner workings and interactions of various government agencies.
What we are given here instead is a tale of one man fighting his own private war on drugs. An interesting idea, but unlike Mr. Clancy's usual subject matter he demonstrates little knowledge of the domestic U.S. drug trade. The Drugs Are Bad message is hammered home in an unnecessarily preachy manner, and I found myself wishing that Clancy had been more succinct. Nancy Reagan managed to sum up the point of this novel in three words, and I'll echo them as my advice to potential readers: Just Say No.

Summary: Sparkling, simple story
Review: Okay, Without Remorse is not one of the more complicated novels by Clancy(for example, when I read Debt of Honour I did not really understand the financial lingo the first time around). This novel was the first one that I read from Clancy's stable. Having read a lot of Don Pendleton's Mack Bolan books, this was the kind of novel that one needed to use to step up towards more mature adult action fiction. I was harassed into reading this book, I admit, but after I had really gotten into it I was hooked and never looked back and have been seeking out Clancy books yet. This novel compares more to a Clive Cussler novel in that the politics of other Clancy novels are missing and you can really just enjoy a story without having to really concentrate on the sub-plots. This is one of Tom Clancy's more "relaxed" novels and conjures up the same emotions as The Hunt for Red October and Patriot Games. This novel ranks alongside Red Storm Rising as the best novel written by Tom Clancy.

Review: This book is filled with it all. Action, good story line, and a relationship that means something to the reader. Once you start this you wont be able to put it down. By far the best single hero book around.

Summary: No Excuse for this book
Review: This book was absolutely terrible. I had seen some Clancy movies and thought I would enjoy one of his books. Boy was I wrong. I'll never read another again. The characters were so one dimensional. The "hero" was, in my opinion, a cold-blooded killer who was as bad as the "psychopaths" he was out to get. He actually tortured one of the bad guys to death. It was also apparent that he couldn't be without a woman. During the six months between the time his beloved wife died and he met his new love, he "visited" hookers twice. He then fell in love (in a matter of hours) with a hitchhiker he picked up. Within a week after she was gone, he glommed on to the nurse who treated his wounds in the hospital. Everyone in the book was either all black or all white. I don't have one good thing to say about this book. Hard to believe this author actually made money from this junk.

Summary: A great book!, A must have in your book shelf!
Review: This is one of Clancy's finest works, and although somewhat less of a "techno" book than his early efforts, a superb read, that introduces John Kellys (now John Clark) background.The book explains how he became a CIA opperative after his time in the navy. As John Clark is probably Clancys most interesting character most people who have read Clancy before will enjoy discovering his rather dark past.

It was daring of Clancy to turn away from his most well known character Jack Ryan, and have Kelly as his leading man, but the gamble seems to have paid off, resulting in a compelling read which is hard to put down.

So as not to dissapoint his most eager eyed fans Ryan can actually be found in the book, having a discussion with his parents upon his choice to join the Marines, and it is Ryans father, a cop, who is investigating the drug ring and then Kelly which is vital to the plot.

The plot is quite good, and probably somewhat more realistic than the world wars that act as the backdrop to most of Clancys novels. As expected the action sequences are brilliant written in true Clancy style, and as the tension builds toward the end of the book you really will not want to put it down.

All in All this is Clancy at his best, and is well worth a read, even if nomally you wouldnt touch a Clancy book. Its good to see Clancy writing as he is best able to do, hyper fast pace, superb action in gory detail, and good character development, rather than endless ramble about Clancys rather conservative political views that spoil some of his -otherwise excellent- novels.

Review: John Clark is my favorite Clancy character. Thus, when I heard about this book I picked it up and read eagerly. I was not disappointed. This novel was a fascinating look into how John Kelly, ex Navy SEAL, became John Clark, CIA allstar.

Anyone who enjoyed John Clark's lesser roles in Clancy's other books should definitly pick this one up as well.

Summary: Clancy's Best
Review: If you have ever wanted to get even with someone here is the book that does it for you. This was actualy the second Clany novel I read and by far the best. The only book to come close to it was Rainbow Six. This book is a must read if you really want to understand some of the characters that are the focus of the later novels. It is too bad Tom Clany hasn't written any other books to give us more history on our favourite characters.

You will not be able to put this down!

Review: An exciting story of a serial killer vigilante as American super hero in a black and white world of myopic tunnel vision. If you don't mind troglydyte heroes who are predominantly white, and unidimensional villains who are predominantly ethnic or racial minorities than this book is for you.
