Summary: The Best of Tom Clancy and More!
Review: Having read all of Tom Clancy's books, this is the gem that stands out way above all the rest. It has adventure and danger, as do all his books, but it deals with love and heartbreak to a degree not seen in his other books. This book is very much about honor and duty, sacrifice and betrayal. There are many segments of this book which are unforgettable! This book is one of a kind in its genre and is well deserving of the label "Modern Classic." In this book we see the beginnings of a central character in several Clancy books written earlier, but chonologically later in time, the enigmatic Mr Clark. No problem is too difficult for Mr Clark in the other novels, and now we know why. I strongly encourage all adventure/espionage genre fans to read this book, as well as other readers looking for a compelling read. This is the best of Tom Clancy and that is saying something very strong indeed.

Summary: Superb
Review: Clancy's talent lies in producing characters that have real motivations, while his weakness tends to be in over-elaborating his plots and wiring them to a subconsciously irritating pro-American world view. No problems there really, coz he's American and is supposed to be pro-USA. But it does get under the skin just how often we have to swallow the concept that America's military people are the finest creatures ever to grace the planet. This problem does dog Without Remorse but not as much as in other novels. As a result, the emotions he manages to generate around John Clark are wonderfully ambiguous and gripping. In a similar vein to the Day of the Jackal, we find ourselves cheering on a man who is bent on killing without legal sanction. His own struggle to justify this to himself in the latter stages is by turns fascinating and annoying as it veers towards Clancy's veneration of the military honour code. This book is at its best when it combines emotional tension with Clancy's superb grasp of action writing. The decompression chamber episode is particularly enthralling. As others have commented, WR is a good first Clancy read for the uninitiated as it is mercifully free of the most cloying Americana and techno-babble.

Summary: Tom Clancy at his best
Review: This is Tom Clancy's best work, a masterpiece. Clancy made me feel for the characters in this book, especially John Clark. I found tears in my eyes at parts, and I felt a triumphant rush of happiness at others. I would choose John Kelly(aka Clark) over Jack Ryan any day. He is a much shadier, however Clancy made me feel for him. I had the same thirst for revenge that Kelly had, and realized how [...] this guy really is.

Summary: A piece of perfection
Review: I loved reading this book. It is a great book. It is a great book to read as an introduction into the world of John Clark. John Kelly, who is the main character of the book, is known in other Clancy books as Mr. Clark. I thought that this book was a masterpiece, and showed me that Clancy is a very good writer. I want to read more of his books. I was hooked right from the beginning. I kept reading because I could not put the book down.

Summary: Great Book for Clancy "Followers"
Review: I read all of the low reviews and I have to say that the people who write those obviously don't follow Clancy's books. Any faithful reader of Clancy will be able to see the "grand scheme" story line and find that everything ties together. This is a great book the gives a lot of background of the mysterious CIA spy called "Mr. Clark" found in other Clancy books like "Clear and Present Danger" and "Debt of Honor". This book is a MUST READ for Clancy fans that want to know the background of some of the characters like John Clark, Jim Greer and Jack Ryan's Dad. Overall, a five star book.

Summary: Excellent Novel - I like John Kelly
Review: I've just finished reading "Without Remorse" and greatly enjoyed learning more about the character John Kelly, AKA John Clark. The story is set in 1970 during the height of the Vietnam Conflict, and John Kelly is trying to re-establish a life outside of the armed services after several life shattering tragedies. Despite finding some civilian friends, Kelly is largely angered and aloof from life and all it's unfairness. He finds purpose in life by taking matters into his own hands to punish evil-doers both here stateside and once again is the jungles (or is it rain forests?) of southeast Asia.
This book was published in 1993 and will remain a timeless Clancy masterpiece.

Summary: Simply awesome!
Review: Taking place during the later stages of vietnam, this book has everything. Action, love, murder, revenge, personal agenda, hardships, success and failures from the every average day doctor to your admorals. An ex navy seal, who loses his wife and girlfriends, turns into a cold blooded killing machine that once stops, won't quit until his mission is a success. It helps to define Mr Clark and sets up his character for later in the Jack Ryan books. You also have other losses from killings to perosnal agenda for wanting the war to end peaccfully, to getting people out of enemy territory. So if you want action, drama, romance, it is all here in this book and then some. DOn't pass up on this book, you will reget it!

Summary: Clancy has given us a new hero, and his name is Mr. Clark!
Review: This book was fantastic. Never have I read a book, and become so angry with the villains as I did with this book. After reading what the drug dealers and pimps did to their working girls, and then what the Vietnamese did to the American POW's, I was hoping that Clancy would allow our hero to have his vengeance. Clark (John Kelly in this story) is the definition of nemesis in this book. While he shows his skills as a SpecOps alumni, (ex Navy SEAL, not Marine as told in an earlier review) he also shows his human side, and that he is not some run of the mill mindless killer robot that the CIA has cooked up. He has feelings, and shows that sometimes he does not really like his job, but he knows he has to do it and he does it brilliantly. I like that Clancy took us into a more humane story and not a techno thriller. Clancy also introduces some of his other well known characters, like Admiral Greer. He was a character known in the older Ryan novels, and played by James Earl Jones in the movies. Also, Robert Ritter, one of the made-out-to-be bad people in Clear and Present Danger. In addition, for you Jack Ryan fans, Ryan himself even has a small cameo in the latter half of the story. John Clark is one of the better characters in fiction books today in my opinion. I would love to see a movie made about this. Moreover, I think Liev Schreiber would be perfect for the role. He played John Clark brilliantly in Sum of all Fears. I read this book twice and never get tired of it. It is a fascinating read, and I recommend it to anyone who enjoys Tom Clancy.

Summary: Clancy breaks out of his mold.
Review: In this book we finally get to know Mr. Clark. Clancy, unlike he does in his other books, focuses a lot on a love story which is the basis for the action in this book. Although Mr. Clark's military skills are talked about in great description, it is not another military he ends up using them against. His fight is against drug dealers and pimps, and the story is great. One has to read it to understand because this is not the typical "love story", in fact it is a love story that you would think Clancy would write. Kudo's to Clancy on his endeavor out of the normal military novel. I hope we get more books focusing on Mr. Clark and his group, Rainbow Six (another great Clancy book).
