Summary: Absolutely Brilliant
Review: I love Nora Robert's books and have yet to find mediocrity in her work. This book is no exception. Although it's one of her earlier works, the only way you can tell is by looking at the copyright page. I won't bore you with the details of the storyline except to say that as usual, there is a strong current of love that runs through the story with the bad guy being who you least expect. This is definitely a must read. If you've read some of her other books I'll term "whodunits", you won't be disappointed. And you'll never guess who the bad guy is, just like you never really can with her other works of this genre.

Summary: Oil and Water?
Review: I loved this book! As I got towards the end, I found myself reading slower, not wanting it to end. Initially assigned to offer a psychological profile of a serial killer, Dr. Teresa Court (Tess) is attracted to Detetective Ben Paris, a hard-bitten cop. The attraction between Tess and Ben is electric, however, and comes across effectively in the story. Although from opposite sides of the social scale, Tess and Ben quickly acknowledge the magnetism between them, and though Ben fights it, love has to prevail. The characters are so very believeable, I also loved the dialogue between Detective Ben Paris and his partner Ed Jackson, they are truly an odd couple. Ms. Roberts has a rare talent, I've read many of her books before, and enjoyed them all, but this has to be one of my favorites. I'm glad you pulled this one out of mothballs Ms. Roberts. I am now looking forward to reading Ed's story in Brazen Virtues. Way to go Ms. Roberts!

Summary: One of her best
Review: I usually enjoy about 25% of Nora Roberts books as each one varies so much in style. However this was one of my favorites. She really built up her characters in this story and put more emphasis on their lives, not just the murders themselves. I couldn't put it down as I had to see how it ended and what became of the detective and the psychiatrist. I highly recommend it.

Summary: As usual, great characters, great chills and thrills!
Review: I wouldn't say this is Nora Roberts' best, but it was certainly a great thriller and wonderful, believable characters that you couldn't help rooting for! The idea of a priest's garments used to kill the victims was great. The idea of a psychiatrist, our protagonist, Dr. Tess Court, being used to do a psychological profile and continuing on in the case, was a great idea, and brought a super character to life. The doubting cop, Ben Paris, also was believable, as cops think counseling is "hokie." The fireworks between the two were entertaining to see.

A bit less of the sex scenes than usual, don't know if that's good or bad! I guess depending on who the reader is. The romance was all there, though, and the tension between the lovers. The murders could have been a little spookier, and, as Roberts is famous for the macabre, they could have been a little more gruesome for the morbidly curious!

As usual, Roberts includes a mixture of love and a scary thriller. Wonderful, fast read!

Summary: The start of a love affair w/Nora's books!
Review: In March of 1997, I asked readers of Nora Roberts & Patricia Cornwell to convince me which author's stories I should try next. I was convinced to try Nora -- with a little nudge from Nora (she posts on boards on AOL). Nora suggested that I pick up a couple of her titles from used bookstores and see if I liked them or not.

My first read was SACRED SINS. Now, a year and a half later, my life has completely changed -- all due to reading this WINNER and meeting Nora & her wonderful, wonderful fans (w/them, we created a website in Nora's honor!).

I digress.

Why should you read SACRED SINS? When I first read it, I could NOT put it down. I wanted to not only read about the developing relationship between Ben & Tess, but I also wanted to find out who was killing these women in Washington, D.C. My initial impression was that it was a good, fast read.

Then, in June, I re-read it. It was even BETTER the second time around. In fact, I put it right up there as my favorite romantic/suspense stories of Nora's -- with DIVINE EVIL, MONTANA SKY, CARNAL INNOCENCE, & her DEATH books.

Why is SACRED SINS such a great read? First, you have a very believable killer. Second, you have real cops in Ben & in Ed (read BRAZEN VIRTUE for Ed's story) -- their rapport is outstanding. Third, you have a very true-to-heart developing relationship between Tess & Ben. Fourth, Tess is extremely convincing as a psychiatrist. Her attempts to reach Joey were so compelling -- I wanted to reach into the book & slap his parents -- this was as real as it gets. Nora wrenched my heart w/it.

This is an excellent story to give to a NON-reader of romances -- who believes that he/she knows what romances are all about. While there is romance in this story, the emphasis is on the suspense -- wondering who the killer really is.

Summary: mixed feelings
Review: not one of my favorites by nora roberts but interesting....it's about a shrink and a cop who together try to solve a series of religious murders...i like the sub-plots better than the actual story but some really great love making scenes!! now that's good writing!

Summary: Sacred Sins is sinful
Review: Roberts has created a story containing both verve and intrigue. Sacred Sins is the story of a psycho with unholy intentions. Tess is a strong character: regal, beautiful, intelligent. You could say she is typical of other "regal, beautiful, intelligent" female characters in other romance novels. However, Ben is an a-typical alpha-male. The combination is irresistable. Watching the byplay between these two such night vs. day characters was fun. Another reason this book is so good is because the plot is so gritty. I liked the gritty. The character development was complete, nothing was left out. It was fun watching Ben fall hard. Final word: an excellent choice on a cold night.

Summary: Sacred Sins
Review: So Nora goes Hollywood. If this was my first Nora Roberts novel it may have been my last. If this a new venue count me out. What a major disappointment. Spare me a political message. Do what you do best, romance. What if Ms. Roberts had a loved one who was victim to "the preist" would she feel so compassionate? How outrageous!

Summary: Good, but...
Review: That infamous "but...." Sacred Sins is a good, compelling read and I enjoyed much of the book, but....

What is Nora Roberts' fixation with Catholicism, anyway??? I have never, EVER seen a positive portrayal of a good, solid, orthodox Catholic in any of her books that I've read, and Msgr. Logan of this book is no exception. He is a "good, sensitive" man but, of course, he isn't so "antiquated" as to wear clerical blacks or to encourage Ben to reconcile with the Church.

Ms. Roberts is also trying my patience with her pro-abortion politicking in her books. Genuine Lies is probably my very favorite of her novels because of its outstanding plot and characters, but it is also a paean to the so-called "pro-choice" cause. In Sacred Sins, it is the illegal abortion by a family member that ended tragically that sends "The Priest" over the edge. And of course, the Church's teaching on the evil of abortion is what influences "The Priest's" view of abortion and his murderous attempts to try to "atone" for this "sacred sin." Pathetic. Try researching the millions of joyful, loving pro-life advocates in this country, Ms. Roberts. They will open your eyes to a whole new perspective on the issue.

Ms. Roberts would be well-advised to either start showing respect for the religion of nearly one billion people worldwide, or to avoid attempting to portray Catholics in her books.

Two stars given for a suspenseful plot with interesting characters (esp. liked the partnership between Ben and Ed). Three stars withheld for the gratuitous slams on Catholicism and the pro-life cause.
