Rating: Summary: Oh, James, James, James.... Very, very poor...... Review: Being a Patterson fan for many years, all I can say is what a major disappointment. Why authors are allowed to write such dribble on the back of one's success, I'll never ever understand... If I have to pay approx. $25 dollars for classics like "Kiss the Girls", "Jack & Jill", and "Cat & Mouse", then this book is worth $1.99, (if even that). If you do have to go out and buy this book, which you probably will if you have read previous books by James Patterson... Wait until the paperback comes out, and feed it to the nearest goat.....
Rating: Summary: a thrilling, imaginative thriller that made me cry Review: Being a fan of the Alex Cross books, I was very excited to read Mr. Patterson's latest. From the trilling opening to the tearjerker ending I couldn't put this book down. There is nothing more impressive than an author who decides it's time to spread his wings (pun intended) and write something completely different from his or her previous books. Patterson fans should embrace this remarkable book and those readers who might have stayed away from his more terrifying Cross books finally have a great excuse to discover a wonderful new author. Enjoy!!!
Rating: Summary: Above the Crowd Review: Since this wasn't a Cross book, I was prepared for disappointment; but, I was very, very wrong. I enjoyed it more than any of his other books, and I'm a huge Patterson fan. If you can't suspend disbelief, this book isn't for you; however, if you can let your imagination soar, you will fall in love with this novel. I loved the story, the suspense and the characters. This is a keeper, because I'll reread it many times. ....Erma
Rating: Summary: The best thriller I've read since the last Michael Crichton Review: I had heard of James Patterson - friends of mine are huge fans - but his books didn't strike me as my cup of tea. But a friend who works at a bookstore gave me some sort of advance copy of this and said 'trust me; it's fun, uplifting (no pun intended) and you'll be mad at me tomorrow because you'll be up all night." And I was. What a ride! Great characters, great science, an X-Files feel to it, and just a great escape. Two great female lead characters, which is also refreshing, and, well, to say anything else would give too much away. Plan to be at work late the next day!
Rating: Summary: An Absolute Must-Read! Review: James Patterson has outdone himself with this latest entry -- WHEN THE WIND BLOWS -- the vet is the strongest woman character he's written yet and the story really moves. I stayed up all night, could not put this one down. Also, the scientific slant about genetics and cloning is so well written, it's really terrifying. James Patterson fans are not going to be disappointed. I give Mr. Patterson a lot of credit for not sticking with his usual format and trying something new -- it really works!
Rating: Summary: DO NOT READ THIS BOOK!!! Review: I have read every book by James Patterson has written and felt that they were all readable. I consider his Alex Cross books to be excellent. His latest, however,When The Wind Blows, is not only HIS worst book, it is one of the worst books I've read in many years. This book has no redeeming qualities--the writing style is amateurish, the characters are plastic and, worst of all, the dialogue is awful. Do yourself a favor and read ANYTHING else but When The Wind Blows.
Rating: Summary: A dreary parade of tired cliches Review: A misguided friend gave me an early copy of this genuine Grade A stinker. The writing is so bad you wonder if all the editors at the publishing house didn't take the week off. Perhaps they gave up on the dreadful, dumb story, or trying to correct the endless parade of pseudo-tense cliches - or maybe they just thought we were all too dumb to notice. This has to be one of the worst thrillers I've ever read. Do I really have to give it one whole star??
Rating: Summary: Excellent, very suspenseful Review: First of all, this is not a serial killer book, but is a very different type of suspense book. It deals with genetic engineering and its possibilities when unscrupulous physicians are involved. It has one of the most interesting characters in the 14-year old girl, Max.
Rating: Summary: Move it from thrillers to fantasy/sci-fi Review: This is a major disappointment! Patterson's writing style is, for the most part, as crisp as ever, but the plot...the plot doesn't work. This review by the way is based on an advance copy, but I don't see him having time to completely redo the thing between now and laydown time. Patterson says in a little introduction that he doesn't want to spoil the suspense by telling too much about the scientific research that is already in progress. And then he goes on to give us a story about a half-human, half-bird child who is the creation of some mad-scientist government types and who has escaped their evil clutches along with her little bird-boy brother. Along come a female veterinarian and a noble FBI agent to save the two of them and their little bird-child friends, too. I guess Patterson felt a need to "try his wings", as it were, but please get back to some good, old-fashioned murder, James. A friend of mine who works with me in the mystery section of a bookstore in Dallas read this as well, and he also gave it two thumbs down. We're sorry we just had four thumbs between us. Wait for the paperback.
Rating: Summary: HIS BEST YET...and I've Read 'em All Review: I've read all of James Patterson's novels -- from his first, "The Thomas Berryman Number", through his latest, "When the Wind Blows" -- and loved each one. However, the great news for Patterson fans is that this time out he's gone on a new creative reach and come up with the most consistently fascinating and suspenseful story he's ever written -- which is, I fully realize, saying an awful lot. Read it and you'll see: there's true magic in "When the Wind Blows".
