Rating: Summary: It's the BEST Patterson book I've read so far Review: This is the best James Patterson book I've read so far. And you don't have to take my word for it--just check out the hundreds of bookseller reviews at jamespatterson.com
Rating: Summary: A non-stop adrenaline rush. Patterson is amazing. Review: When the Wind Blows is a GREAT tale driven by Patterson's most believable characters yet. I'm a big Alex Cross fan and I expected to miss him, but am happy to report that Patterson has found a great new voice with his two heroines in this book. The children that fly are so real, and so engaging, I hope Patterson uses them again in another book. Expect to be surprised -- and dazzled.
Rating: Summary: A great page-turner; the best Patterson yet. Review: Patterson has written another winner! When the Wind Blows is a fantastic thriller that has all the elements of a blockbuster movie. Action, suspense, special effects and the most winning love story imaginable. I started to read a few pages before dinner and didn't put the book down until "the end." I give it two thumbs up.
Rating: Summary: When The Wind Blows blew me away Review: I've read all of James Patterson's books but I wasn't prepared for When The Wind Blows. What an ADRENALIN rush! I did not want it to end! I felt like I was there with Max, Frannie and Kit!!! I didn't want it to end, and I want more!
Rating: Summary: Where's Alex Cross when you need him? Review: I also read an advanced copy of this book and I had to wonder if Mr. Patterson was planning another rewrite or if this was actually the finished product. The story concept intrigued me, but the book itself was a major disapointment. I suggest people re-read "Cat & Mouse" instead of buying this book.
Rating: Summary: Meet Max, and Read Patterson's Best Thriller Review: Meet Kit Harrison, an FBI agent on mandatory vacation from the Bureau. But Kit isn't lounging on a beach, as ordered. Instead, he has come to Colorado to find proof of medical experiments that he firmly believes are taking place nearby. Sound like something out of the "X-Files?" Just wait. Not believed by his colleagues at the Bureau, Kit is in Colorado for proof of what he knows to be the horrifying truth. So, far from the beach, Kit stays in a cabin on the property of local animal hospital owner Annie O'Neill. Living in the beautiful Colorado Rockies, Frannie keeps her once thriving veterinary practice afloat. After the death of her husband in a hit-and-run car accident, Annie has struggled to keep it together - and she has done fairly well, until Max enters her life. Enter Max, an eleven-year-old girl with extraordinary strength, intelligence, and physical abilities. Driving home one evening, Annie sees Max from a distance. Although it's impossible, Annie swears that she has seen a beautiful girl with wings. Wings that work. Confiding in Kit, the two realize that something dark and unnatural is happening and they will stop at nothing to get answers. When the Wind Blows makes us examine our notions of the impossible. It takes us through a disturbing and, one suspects, far too likely scenario of genetic experimentation and alteration. As the death toll rises, so does the tension in the novel. The novel's climax is suspense fiction at its best, and utterly unforgettable.
Rating: Summary: Not the James Patterson book I wanted to read. Review: I got a advance readers copy and I was very disappointed. I'm glad I didn't buy this book because a James Patterson book is always on my list and this book is nothing like any of his previous books or anything I would read. I have alot of trouble getting into a book where a bird girl is the main character. Frannie and Kit seemed a afterthought and I found both of them boring.
Rating: Summary: My Favorite Patterson Review: I have read almost every James Patterson novel and I enjoyed this one the most. It's as fast-reading and exciting as the Alex Cross books, but the story is infinitely more amazing and the imagery is surprisingly sensitive and beautiful for a writer who can often be so blood-and-guts. It's a new dimension for him and I'm really happy that he's good at this kind of writing, too. If you like Patterson you should read this book right away.
Rating: Summary: neat concept, poor execution Review: I read an advance copy of this book and I was astounded by how bad it was. Not because Patterson is a bad writer -- he's clearly a story teller as many of his previous books show. But this book felt like it had never progressed past the outline stage. What struck me about it as I read through one poorly concieved scene after another was how little faith Patterson has in his readers. The book feels really contrived. The horrifying scenes of the genetically engineered children seem like they're only about shocking the reader, not emotionally engaging you in a real story. This book is clearly aping after Crichton's work -- especially JURASSIC PARK and other fantasy/horror thrillers. Unfortunately, Patterson put no heart or soul in this book.
Rating: Summary: A major disappointment Review: I am a huge James Patterson fan, but I have to admit that this one was a true disappointment. From the first page, I could not connect with any of these characters but I continued to read, hoping to develop some interest in them. No thrills or major surprises throughout. I do admire his courage to try something different, but I think he should stick to what he does best.
