Summary: Predictable
Review: James Patterson has been my favorite author since I read Kiss the Girls. Everytime that he writes a new book I buy it. This book would make me think twice before doing that again. Usually a Patterson book is unpredictable. You can't believe who the actual bad guy is at the end of the novel. In When the Wind Blows I correctly guess 95% of what was happening next. The premise for the story was great, but the plot didn't provide the enjoyment.

Summary: An Extraordinary Book by an Extraordinary Author!
Review: I am a huge James Patterson fan! I love the way he allows his chapters to flow quickly and fluidly. He takes the time to develope characters that you can relate with. This story had me on the edge of my seat from the get go, and I couldn't put the book down. It went with me everywhere I went! I would highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys the style of writing of James Patterson. If you are looking to find Alex Cross I cannot help you. However, there are some rather gripping characters!

Summary: Interesting premise but poorly written
Review: I did enjoy this Dean Koontz-ish story line and I have to admit that I plowed through the book in record time. But I was apalled at the choppy and almost juvenile writing style, if you can call it "style". I appreciate good writing and it stunned me that a book written this poorly could be accepted for publication. If I were an editor I'd say, "Yikes, Jim, you can do better than this!"

Summary: HUGE disappointment
Review: Cardboard characters and zillions of 2-page chapters that read like a screenplay -- a BAD screenplay. I find it hard to believe that this book was written by James Patterson, who is usually a confident and original writer. The "science" fiction premise was laughable, the love scenes were ridiculous (particularly from the female perspective), and the plot was riddled with holes.... incredibly predictable. What the #@!*! was Patterson thinking when he wrote this (IF he wrote it, that is)? P.U.

Summary: I loved this book.
Review: Unlike previous books by this author I enjoyed WHEN THE WIND BLOWS. It was magical.

Summary: I'm sorry Mr. Patterson, but here's a star for sympathy...
Review: First of all, I've never read a Patterson book before this one. I've heard they were really good, however. I even saw the movie Kiss the Girls, and loved it! I never read the book, though. Then I heard about his new one: When the Wind Blows. Entriguing title! Boy, was I wrong. I plan to become an author one day, and I have about five novels presently going. I write poetry and short stories, and I always try to develop my characters and scenes.

This book lacked both. When the Wind Blows is a catchy title, but the plot has been redone. It's about naughty scientists trying to use recombinant DNA, or something along those lines, to alter the appearance of some organism when that organism is born. Redone. Redone. Especially in the movies.

And what surprised me most was the lack of detail in the novel. I read the book in an afternoon, and immediately went to the Internet. I found a James Patterson sight where he had been interviewed. I read the whole thing, and found out that he likes books to go faster, and that's why he has short chapters, and not a lot of detail. I don't even remember a description of the people in the book, except for the blond hair. He must fancy blond hair. Anyway: the characters were undeveloped. The plot was reused and rehashed, and provided little explanation of how they made girls fly! How absurd! Who'd want to genetically engineer kids to fly? Read something by King, or Grisham, or Crichton, or Baldacci, or Koontz, or Blauner, or Peretti, or Tim LaHaye, but NOT James Patterson. I really wish I could give negative stars, and I wish EVEN MORE that I could find something good about the book--besides that it didn't take me long to read! I apologize again, Mr. Patterson, but develop your characters, add some description to the scene, because you can't develop a mental image out of nothing.

Summary: Great to see Patterson writing with the same great suspense!
Review: James Patterson has shown us that he can write outside of the Alex Cross genre. His simple format remains the same in this novel, and keeps the pages turning. Short chapters are what keeps the reader from being unable to put the book down when it is time to turn the page. His use of imagery for the location of the story was very rich, and the character development of Max was done well. Patterson opened the character of Max slowly, and wasn't finished until the last page. I must also applaud him, once again, for being able to portray a character in the first person narrative. Even though he is not a widowed female vetrenarian.

Summary: Excellent flow of the plot
Review: This is not, in my opinion, James Patterson's best book to date. However, it is a very entertaining and a pleasure to read. I couldn't wait to find what happened, page after page. Given to me as a Christmas present, I simply couldn't put the book down till early Christmas morning. Well worth reading, no-matter how much of an Alex Cross fan you are.

Summary: Adolescent
Review: What a disappointing book! The characters were shallow, the story was obvious, the language was banal and jargon-y until Patterson threw in some medical lingo (for effect?).Very cliche, with some "jokes" attributed to characters which were inane at best. When I left the bookstore with this book, the salespeople snickered! I asked whether I should put it back...I wish I had. I bought Cat and Mouse at the same time. I HOPE it's better.

Summary: It was nice to take a break from Alex and Nana-Mama
Review: I thought this book was a good read, but somewhat far-fetched. The characters were complex, but not complete. I've never met people that act the way these characters do. I thought the story was interesting, but the characters lame. I enjoyed the medical aspect of the book. All the information about gene splicing and medical technology was interesting. As far as accuracy??? Who knows! Worth reading, but I may give up on Patterson all-together anyway, as Alex and Nana-Mama are getting a little tired.
