Rating: Summary: A page turner; a cross btwn fantasy and suspense Review: James Patterson takes a break from his usually suspense of Alex Cross -- this was a welcome change -- it touched a bit on fantasy and kept you engrossed till the end!!!! Highly recommend.
Rating: Summary: I can't believe Patterson wrote this book. Review: They should sell this book in the drug store. It works better than a bottle of sleeping pills. I purchased the unabridged audio version of this book, and every night when I go to bed this book puts me to sleep in 10 minutes or less. And, as far as I know there are no side effects.
Rating: Summary: Extremely disappointing and amateurishly written Review: Having been hooked by the well-delineated character of Alex Cross, I immediately picked up this book when I first saw it. I am sorry to report that it was disappointing in the extreme! The level of the writing (the "style", if you will) was evocative of novels written for teens and even pre-teens. I was amazed at the simplicity and redundancy of the writing. I also found Mr. Patterson's "trademark" of very short chapters merely annoying here. His "technique" of combining third-person and first-person narrative was also unnecessary and brought only confusion to the proceedings. The book was derivative of Dean Koontz, John Saul and even Fred Mustard Stewart (does anyone else remember him?), but in a "Cliff Notes" kind of way. Sorry, James. Stick to developing the characters of Cross and his family. Please never write another one like this!
Rating: Summary: Very Capturing... Review: I am a HUGE James Patterson fan. This book was different from his usual style, but very readable. Only one thing....I missed Alex!!
Rating: Summary: AWESOME! Review: One of Patterson's finest book, 5 Stars
Rating: Summary: Burn it now! Review: This book is such utter rubbish that after reading it you might even want to look at the cover to ensure that you have just read a book by the highly raved author James Patterson and you will be probably surprised that you have. The book gives us a child with wings, an FBI agent who believes in the existence of biological experiments and a woman whose husband was murdered for no reason apparent to her. This combination of characters gives you a book with what must the most ridiculous plot around and the most childish narration you can get. The story is very predictable and not in the least bit exciting. It does get at times so ridiculous that you might want to throw back your head to laugh that you are actually reading a James Patterson novel. Impossible, boring and a downright insult to the intelligence of the human race as whole.
Rating: Summary: Held me captive from the first page to the last! Review: I was lucky enough to recieve a pre-release version of this book before its actual publication. This was my first time reading Patterson so I did not know what to expect. Well, it was very entertaining and informative. The existance of an immoral group of scientist experimenting on human beings was not hard to imagine. The bird children were so realistically portrayed that I found myself really caring about the characters and hope that if a race of hybrids are ever discovered that we treat them with the dignity all creatures deserve. I enjoyed this book and recommend it to readers who enjoy: sci-fi, action/adventure, or romance. Great book!
Rating: Summary: I don't think Patterson even wrote this book ,it is so bad. Review: I love Patterson's books, all of them, but this book is TERRIBLE ! I don't think he even wrote it. Perhaps the publishers were so anxious to get a new Patterson book out, they published some rough draft that he wrote as a college student. It was PAINFUL to read.
Rating: Summary: Very Dissapointing Review: I have come to appreciate and look forward to the next Alex Cross novel. However, as a change of pace, I figured this story would be a nice diversion. Unfortunately, this story was far too unrealistic unless Mr Patterson is crossing the line to Science Fiction/Fantasy. By far the worst of his extinguished career.
Rating: Summary: It was different...but I liked it! Review: I've looked over some of the other reviews here and it appears as though people either loved this book or they hated it. I myself loved it. He created some very believable characters in Frannie, Kit and Max. I always find it very interesting how Patterson writes from perpectives so different from his own (as a black man with Alex Cross and now as a woman with Frannie). Those of you who did not like the story were probably reading with the impression that this book was going to be like the Alex Cross books. That is the problem with authors who use one character in many books: people don't really like change. If you had read the book without knowing the author, I think you would have enjoyed it more. I found that I couldn't put the book down. I knew something crazy was going on in the town but had no idea of the magnitude. I did not find the book to be predictable, although I did find the ending to be a little on the sappy side. All in all, it was an excellent book, and I commend Patterson for trying something new. I love the Alex Cross books too, and hope for more, but I think Patterson can carry his weight without Cross if he has to. He's an excellent storyteller.
