Rating: Summary: James Patterson writes another page turner.... Review: Very different from the Alex Cross series, which I loved. I enjoyed this "sci-fi", but thinking it could happen is frightening. I look forward to a sequel (?) and I hope there is one soon. Please keep up the great work Mr. Patterson. A faithful reader
Rating: Summary: This bird won't hunt Review: Have read every Patterson book and liked every one. This departure from Alex Cross is a mistake. Book has a good idea but did not care for the content - clever but boring if you can believe it. Standard fare of oppressed good guys against insurmountable odds, etc. etc. etc. If you must read this - go to your local library and save the cash. Not much to brag about here.
Rating: Summary: "If God Wanted Men To Fly, He Would Have Given Us Wings" Review: Go ahead and sue me for what I'm about to write ...I'm a big fan of James Paterson. I'm even a bigger fan for those of you out there who are willing to be different. To go against the norm and against all odds. Once upon a time, our forefathers would have laugh at the thought of a few hundred tons of flying steel in the sky. To Alex if you are reading this ... Kudos for wanting to be different. Kudos for getting out of your "comfort zone" in relying on Alex Cross. I like the story very much. It is a very entertaining story. In my humble opinion, a good story is when you are totally engrossed in it. This is one excellent example. "When the Wind Blows" drives a very serious point in our experimentation of genetic engineering and our search for enternal life. So Alex ... keep on writing and I'm still your die hard fan!
Rating: Summary: SILLY!!!! Review: Please, please bring back Alex Cross, his grandmother, and his two kids!!This book was just silly, what were you thinking?
Rating: Summary: This book is not for fans of the authors other work. Review: I have never been so completely disappointed by a book that I was so excited to read. This book is written in a style similar to Dean Koontz. I have been a fan of most of Patterson's previous works and have always looked forward to his new releases. But this book is ridiculous - children with wings who can fly?! Come on! The relationship between Frannie, the veterinarian and Kit, the FBI agent, reads like a cheap (bad) romance novel. She is the sweet, innocent widow who doesn't trust him at first, and he is just a poor misunderstood FBI agent who also lost his family. Somehow they manage to realize that they love each other while trying to save the winged children from the evil genetic scientist. In the end, every child has been saved and reunited with their beautiful parents and Frannie and Kit live happily ever after. Mr. Patterson must be trying to reach a different audience with this book. I feel that he insulted the intelligence of a lot of his readers. As a result, I will hesitate before buying one of his new books again.
Rating: Summary: couldn't let go of the book, whether it was night or day. Review: the book "when the wind blows" is ,in my oppinion, a great book.it is by James Patterson which is, in my oppinion, a great author which tells the story in a way that would make you read the book with out wanting to stop. the book is about the life of Frannie Oneill, a veterinerian, which changes almost totally at the minute she meets Kit Harisson, a presumed hunter, and a girl that can fly. it's about the horrors that can happen if people play with the genetic knowledge and power they have.i thought this is a great book not only because of the exiting way the story is told but also because how realistic the story is. with the advences made in the genetic field in the last couple of years, this story may not be as far away from reality as it seems.i hope anyone who reads this will enjoy it as much as i did.
Rating: Summary: Mr Patterson, You're No Dean Koontz Review: I had a strong feeling that Patterson was trying to imitate Dean Koontz. But his simplistic writing style and storytelling are no match for Koontz. His dialog is forced, "nerdish". He throws in current jargon, but it doesn't sound hip--it's silly. And the exposition...whenever the heros meet face-to-face with turncoat enemies, the adversaries insist on telling their side of the story. It was just laughable that these evil, heartless murderers would take time to confess their deeds. And there are a couple of inconsistencies that make it seem like Patterson is under the gun to turn out a book every year. The most flagrant inconsistency was the misuse of military time at the end of the book. The author refers to a meeting at 0200 hours and describes the bird-children floating in the cloudless baby-blue skies--at 2 in the morning?
Rating: Summary: Something you would see on "The X-files" Review: Did not like the book at all. His other books are all really good and this one was a big dissapointment.
Rating: Summary: Painful & Disappointing Review: Being a fan of James Patterson, I was eager to begin his new book. After a LONG painful process I finally finished. The plot was far fetched from his "usual" writings. His attempt to write this story in the perspective of a female character was his first mistake. His portrayal of "Frannie" read more like a romance novel at times and he would have done the book justice by using "Kit" as the main character. The abuse of children, newborns and the unborn made for a very morbid and depressing story. Leave the flying children and mutations to the sci-fi writers. One would wonder if he had writers block and tried to resurrect one of his early attempts at writing. Painful and disappointing.
Rating: Summary: The wind isn't the only thing that blows... Review: I don't have anything against Dean Koontz novels, I would just prefer that James Patterson not write them. Jimmy, if you're tired of Cross then introduce a new protagonist (a la DeMille), but please stick to what you know. I love Patterson, and it pains me to say this, but this was one of the silliest books I have ever read (Is it really necessary to make a Fiona Apple allusion?). I hope JP has the sci-fi out of his system for next time, because this genetic tampering X-files stuff isn't going to fly (no pun intended). Come back, Alex! Now if the flying girl was a serial killer...now there's a concept!!!!
