Rating: Summary: it's a book that is hard to put down. Review: i've never read a book like this i spent the whoel sunday afternoon, finishing this book nonstop. it was just hard to put it down. i think it would be great if it's made into a movIe. it kind of feels more like a movie.
Rating: Summary: Idea is ok, but application isn't that good! Review: We should confess that the initial idea-that of mutated children with wings- is a brilliant one but author should explain scientific basis for his idea! We have no clue how this process can happen genetically, this puts the story in x-files league, a complete fantasy. I agree with the other reviewers that Patterson has portrayed the characters poorly and it takes a lot from the novel. The epilogue is a failure as well, it contradicts the rest of the story! This was the first Patterson book i read, i doubt i will read another book of him again
Rating: Summary: Winged Children - Give Me a Break Review: This book was among the worst I've read in a long time. I cannot for the life of me figure out why I finished this one. I guess I had hoped it would get better. But it didn't. The plot was predictable; the writing elementary; and if this was supposed to be a medical thriller, it missed the mark completely.
Rating: Summary: What really goes on out there? ...What a Book! Review: The reviewer from Hurst, TX was right. You'd better not plan on doing A THING the day you decide to read this book because you won't get anything done except turning pages to see what happens next. Don't do any "reality checks". Who cares if some things sound "simplistic". And don't worry about "improbablilities" or the "incorrect use of military time". Alex Cross will be back, so take a break. Enjoy something new from Patterson's imagination. Though I wouldn't doubt it that these types of things go on.
Rating: Summary: Never again Review: The only reason I bought this book: I was at a used book store and found two books I wanted, but learned it woudl be cheaper if I bought four books instead of two.(Go figure.) I finished this book in one night, but I'm not sure how I muddled through. This is one of the most unbelievable books I've ever read. I've done the sci-fi thing with "Dune" and "Stranger In a Strange Land," but I was more inclined to believe in a sand planet and an alien in our midst than these flying children that Patterson presents. The good guys are too good, the bad guys are too bad, and in the end I was hoping for an upset victory for the dark side because I was so tired of the characters. My recommendation: read something else. This doesn't even rise to the level of beach reading.
Rating: Summary: This is the best book I've ever read, and I own a library Review: Hey you gotta buy this or get it at a library, it's a reallyreally really really really really really really really really reallyreally really really really really really really really really really really really really really good book. END
Rating: Summary: A strange disappointment Review: I'm a big Patterson fan and was extremely disappointed with When the Wind Blows, although I did get through it very quickly. I found the premise too creepy to start with. And the ending totally simplistic. After 400 pages of not trusting anyone Kit & Frannie go for the "Happily ever after ending" A bit far fetched. I wish Patterson would bring Alex Cross & family back again.
Rating: Summary: When the Wind Blows angels fly Review: I did it! I picked up another James Patterson. This one I enjoyed about the same. It has a premise that promises thrills & spills. Somehow it just doesn't take flight. I do like James Patterson's fast reading style, & although his imagery is wonderfully effective he had gaps that left me wondering what happened. Still, worth reading. ................
Rating: Summary: Acceptable Idea, Atrocious Style Review: Although the premise of this novel was a bit hard to swallow, I was able to accept it and give this work a chance. What really disappointed me here was not the over-the-top fantasy, the predictable plot, or the stereotypical conflicts, but Patterson's AWFUL, AWFUL writing. Of course, I wasn't expecting Dostoevsky...but please, there are MANY, MANY, MANY popular authors who do better than this. Patterson's characters are so dull that it's hard to care what happens to them. Instead of portraying unique individuals, he tends to characterize both his heroes and their adversaries by comparing them to well- known actors (Tom Cruise, Harrison Ford, Emma Thompson) who dress in brand-name clothing (the male hero's nickname is even L.L. Bean....gag!). Excuse me, but this is really low-budget style! Frannie, the "leading lady" of the novel, is the most awful character of all. She is unremittingly rude, insulting, cold, needlessly confrontational, and humorless.... a totally unlikable woman. This strangely mannish lady doesn't think or behave like any woman I know, but in order to prove that she is, indeed, feminine and sexy, Patterson paints her as "midwestern beauty" who looks great in her clothes, cares for animals, and who becomes revoltingly gooey when speaking to children. In my view, unconvincing character portraits like these are a lot more difficult to accept than flying children, and I think I'll definitely skip Patterson's other novels.
Rating: Summary: This was stupid ! Review: I was so disappointed. The story was like a halucination. Not believeable not consistent and down right dumb.
