Rating: Summary: Dreck! Review: What dreck! This is supposed to be the work of "America's No. 1 Thriller Writer"? What an embarrassment for American readers. The best thing about this novel was that it was such a quick read. I would have thought if someone was going to convince a reader about such a remarkable premise as bio-engineered flying children, the writer would at least make an attempt to do some research and perhaps make some of the plot or characters believable. The plot is riddled with holes and the astoundingly stupid actions by supposedly superior intellects made me want to shriek out loud. The style of writing sounds like the work of an eighth grade student trying to rush his homework and the characters were non-dimensional. I think Mr. Patterson dictated this story while in a coma; thank God I borrowed this book from a library and didn't waste any money on it.
Rating: Summary: You've Got to Read This Review: You might not want to read my review; I kind of give away a little bit about the book. The one to two page chapters make this book very easy and fast to read. James Patterson writes so well; I've also read Along Came a Spider and Kiss the Girls (the movie of which I love). This book was so . . . true to life, I think. I mean, you've got to admit that the government probably does have some strange things going on that we don't know about. Maybe not about bird-children, but that was just Patterson's theory. The story was intriguing, haunting, and suspenseful, and the fact that people in our goverment, people that we trust, might do something like that, is just disturbing. At the end, I got goosebumps, like I always do when something moves me in any way, whether it scares me or makes me happy. This book made me happy. It leaves you with a sense of satisfaction that everything is all right.
Rating: Summary: Fluff Review: I never read any of Patterson's work before this, and I DID enjoy reading it. The idea of a beautiful genetically engineered birdgirl is intriguing. I found some annoying problems, however. First of all, the characters are just plain cliche. The romance between two perfect specimens of human anatomy who just both happen to be recovering from the death of their spouses, the overly sweet-natured children, the evil and deceptive best friend. Secondly, some of the facts set up earlier in the book don't line up with the conclusion. I mean, the bird-children are left to starve to death or burn to death in the old school facility, yet the evil scientists in the conclusion try to auction them off. If they were so very valuable and if the auction was planned as it apparently was for at least a couple of weeks before, why the heck would they leave the kids???? And one other small problem. Patterson has Kit wearing a "Dartmouth Law" t-shirt. Unfortunately, Dartmouth doesn't have a law school. Rumour has it they've been trying unsuccessfully to acquire Vermont Law School in nearby South Royalton, Vermont for years. Thirdly, the end of the book was anticlimactic and is of a much lower quality than the rest of the book. It's like Patterson needed to finish the book fast to make a deadline or something. Overall, if you aren't particular about continuity and if you want a quick fluffy read, this would be good for you. If you want something more substantial and well-written, check out the Judge Dee mysteries by Robert Van Gulik.
Rating: Summary: My first James Patterson book Review: This is the first book I've read by James Patterson. I too was taken in by the children and could not put it down. I read it in about 1.5 days. I could visualize those children with wings and Frannie & Kit were great characters too. I was so glad it had a happy ending! I liked the twist in the plot and look forward to reading more of his work. I too hope he does a sequel to this book, i'll stand in line to buy it!
Rating: Summary: A repeat read Review: This was the first Patterson novel I ever read, and thanks to it, I actively searched out other offerings of his. While some people (mainly those with no imagination) will say that the story is too far-fetched, those of us with a bit of magic and innocence left in our souls will embrace the protagonist, Max, readily. With genetic engineering in the news so much these days, this book certainly gives the reader something to think about. However, a film version would probably ruin the story, as the little leap of faith it takes to accept the possibility of winged children would not translate well onto the screen (in much the same way as brilliant Stephen King novels make ridiculous movies). Die-hard Patterson fans seem to resent the man whenever he dares deviate from his normal fare (just see the reviews for "Cradle & All"), but I personally think he excels in slightly eccentric plotlines. Here is an author who is destined to live under the shadoew of Alex Cross for a long time. Give him a chance, people.
Rating: Summary: I was skeptical at first... Review: but once I started reading it I couldn't put it down! I'm not much into sci-fi (if that's the right description) but this book was wonderful. I really lost myself in it and really felt for Max and her brother. What those children went through was nothing short of horrible. Your heart just goes out to them and it makes you want to help them yourself. Excellent reading as always from Mr. Patterson, one of my favorites now and always!
Rating: Summary: The best James Patterson with a hint of Sci FI I have read! Review: When the Wind Blows was one of the hardest Patterson novels to put down. I am a die hard Alex Cross fan, but this sotry brings out the childhood dream in all of us; Having the ability to fly! A must read for anyone who loves James Patterson as much as I do! 5 stars!!!
Rating: Summary: Good, but not good enough for James Patterson... Review: When the Wind Blows was a bit of a disappointment for me. Although James Patterson's description throughout the novel was excellent, I felt the characters were badly developed and the chapters were much too short. The short chapters made me feel as though I was being bounced around between two entirely different plot lines and after reading the entire novel like that, I began to get a headache. The book wasn't believable enough and I couldn't connect or relate to the novel. I felt lost. The only other book that I have read by James Patterson, was Black Market and I enjoyed that novel and that is why I tried to give When the Wind Blows a fair chance and I feel three stars is a more than fair rating for this slightly entertaining but still disappointing James Patterson novel.
Rating: Summary: When The Wind Blows Review: This was my first James Patterson Novel. I found that the first half of the book was boring, but if you stick with it, the last half of the book becomes a "page turner". I was a little disapointed with the ending.
Rating: Summary: Good read but diiferent from his usual. Review: I have read Patterson since way before Kiss the Girls became popular with the movie several years ago. This book is very different from the ones which star Alex Cross, but that does not make it bad. Patterson fans should enjoy this one even though it more of a medical thriller than a murder mystery thriller. I applaud him for his efforts to diversify his works but I also encourage him to go back to Alex Cross (more out of enthusiam for the character not criticism for this particular work).
