Rating: Summary: One of the Best Books I've ever read. Review: This story is about a ten-year-old girl named Annemarie Johhansen and her best friend Ellen Rosen and how the Johhansans's hide Ellen. The story takes place in Denmark during world war two. Annemarie is used to seeing soldiers standing on the corners of the streets. She isn't scared of them. But one day the soldiers stop them and question them. Ellen's a Jew she's in danger of being taken to a concentration camp. So Ellen went to stay at the Johhansen's and pretended to be a family member. One night the soldiers search the house they get suspicious when they see Ellen's dark hair because everyone else has blond. Mrs. Johhansen takes the three girls, Annemarie, Ellen, and Kristi Annemarie's little sister, to Annemarie's uncle Hendrik's after they stay there for a while Ellen rides on a ship to Sweden with her family because Sweden is a free country. And two years later world war two ended. The author of this Newberry award book is Lois Lowry. She was a young girl growing up during world war two. Annemarie Johansan is based on the author's real life best friend, Annelise This book was an extremely good book. And I think I'll read more books by this author. I think children who like history would especially like this book. My mom thought this book might be to upsetting for me but I thought it was a great book. I feel so angry towards the Nazis because the Jews didn't do anything to be sent to concentration camp. I learned from this book that there are some evil people in this world and we should teach them to be kind.
Rating: Summary: Wonderful story on a provocative subject. Review: Number the Stars is a story of friendship, bravery and loyalty. Set in Denmark in 1943, this is the story ten-year-old best friends, Annemarie Johansen and Ellen Rosen. When Hitler's army begins to "relocate" Denmark's Jews, Annemarie and her family help Ellen and her family escape to Sweden. Annemarie learns the true meaning of bravery and friendship. This story was based upon experiences of Lowry's friend, Annelise Platt, and tells a poignant story of the role the Danish Resistance played in saving the lives of almost all of Denmark's Jews. This is a wonderful story that helps children begin to understand the feelings and plight of the Jews during World War II. Anxious moments are spent by the reader whenever the soldiers appear to confront the characters of the story. Annemarie displays true bravery and considerable intelligence in the face of the danger presented by soldiers. Parents and teachers can feel comfortable using Number the Stars, to begin a discussion of horrors of the holocaust, at the fourth or fifth grade level. The book can be used to teach not only history and language arts, but also geography and social relationships.

Another interesting fact about Lois Lowry is she made her own system like the Dewey Decimal system. In order to find out more about this book you will have to read it!
Rating: Summary: Number the Stars Review: This book has to be the ONLY interesting fictional history book that I have ever read in my life. It talks about this girl, Annemarie, the main character and her best friend Ellen. Both of them are Jewish girls hiding from the Nazis. This book is really good! I think it is really good because it kept me just wondering what was going to happen next. That is saying a lot too... because normally I dont like to read Historical Fiction books, but this is really good! I enjoyed it and think you will too. I recommend this book to people ages 12-18. The younger kids just wouldn't understand, and well, the older ones would loose attention of this. This book is good for book reports, free-time, or anything really for that fact. Well, I enjoyed this book and hope you will read it and enjoy it too!
Rating: Summary: Number the Stars Review: This book is historical fiction. It's about a ten year old girl named Annemarie Johansen and her best friend Ellen Rosen, during 1943 when Hitler is killing the Jews. Their life in Copenhagen is filled with school, food shortages and Nazi soldiers marching in their town. The Nazis won't stop searching for the Jews. The Jews of Denmark are being relocated, so Ellen moves in with the Johansens and pretends to be part of their family. While her mom and dad are hiding somewhere else she stays at that family. One day Annemarie is asked by her mom to go on a dangerous mission to save the lives of her best friend and her family. The part of this story that happened to Lise and Peter is really sad. If any likes sad stories you should read this book and find out what was really sad.

Rating: Summary: Interesting, but A Bad Ending Review: Most of the book was very exciting and it kept me reading. But the end was a disapointment. I was left thinking,"That's it?" However, aside from the bad ending it's an excellant book and I felt for the main characters. Then again, I am Jewish so the Holocaust might affect me more than someone else.
Rating: Summary: ZZZ.....ZZZZZ......ZZZ.... Review: I read Number the Stars by Lois Lowry. The book was set in Copenhagen, Denmark. It took place when the nazis and Hitler were invading. The main character was a girl named Anne-Marie. She was just a normal girl who lived in an average apartment with her parents and her little sister Kristi. Anne-Marie best friend Ellen was Jewish however, and the nazis were trying to get her and her family and take them prisoner. Peter, a relative of Anne-Marie hid Ellen parents. Meanwhile, Ellen was living with Anne-Marie and her family. Back then for some strange reason, the Germans weren't going to invade Sweden. Ellen's family saw this as an opportunity to get freedom from the nazi soldiers. Anne-Marie and her folks wanted to help get Ellen's family across to Sweden. All the other Jews who had successfully escaped had done it by ship. But the Germans started to realize this and bought dogs that could sniff out people that were hiding on the ship. Can Ellen and her family make it safely across to Sweden? Read the book to find out!
Rating: Summary: good book Review: I gave this book 4 stars. I likted this book because it taught me alot. I learned how much the people suffered during the holocaust. I felt really bad for the jews who had to deal with that i also felt bad for the people that got killed helping the jews like Peter and Lise. I am glad i did not live during the holocaust times I would be really scared and wouldnt know what to do. I would recommend this book to anyone.
