Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Patterson meets Grisham
Review: This quick read grabs you from the first page. If you like serial killer thrillers with a mix of courtroom drama you'll like this book.

Rating: 1 stars
Summary: Big hype-doesn't deliver.
Review: I really really expected to like this book. I really wanted to ! But I just couldn't. The writing is lousy. A 13 year old could write more eloquently than this. Too much description of people's mundane actions. Too much dialogue of mundane discussions. The "plot" was thin. The storyline not even gripping. I wouldn't be annoyed at how utterly bad this book is if it hadn't more for all the hype surrounding it. Or maybe the hype is due to the $300,000 marketing plan. In any case don't waste your money. Summary: Wow! what a page turner!
Review: I loved this book! It kept me reading well into the night. A great plot, you could never decide what the author's satisfactory ending would be. And it was terrific. A definite recommendation.

Summary: One of the best books I've read in awhile!
Review: Based on the description of the story, I wasn't sure I would like the book. I was so wrong. This book held my attention from page one. I hated to put it down. I read all of the time but it is only the truly good stories that I tell friends about. I recommend to anyone who enjoys a good story full of suspense with a character you'll feel for.

Summary: a awesome first book
Review: the main person in the book was raped about ten-plus years ago, since that time she has become a prosecutor. Now there is some killer killing lots of people and the person who is accused of it is her rapist, and she is prosecuting him. while this is good book and you should read it, it is a little too , implausible for me to get the full five stars.

Summary: WOW, what a debut
Review: Thrillers that hook you on the first page or two and do not let up until the end are fairly rare. This book qualifies. Exceedingly well done for a first novel.
You are keep guessing throughout and a couple of "hints" make you wonder how it will play out. And, by the way, you absolute will HATE the bad guy in this.
Hope she keeps the bar up with her second one and others thereafter.
No need to detail the plot on this one, give it a try. You should enjoy.

Summary: Inspired Courtroom Drama
Review: C. J. Townsend, a Miami prosecutor faces her worst nightmare when the man who brutally raped and left her for dead twelve years ago appears in the courtroom as her prime suspect. William Bantling, the man who she is prosecuting is accused of the serial slayings of ten beautiful young women. After realizing that the statute of limitations has run out on her own rape she knows that her only peace of mind might lie in prosecuting a case from which she should rightfully excuse herself. Unable to move on with her life without punishing Bantling for his crimes she must decide whether she can live with bending the law to reach a just end. The case and evidence become more and more confused as CJ tries to keep from falling apart before the trial is completed. CJ and Dominick Falconetti, the lead investigator on the case embark on a tenous relationship as they each try to piece together the evidence and to come to terms with their past and with the ethical questions that face them.

This story is incredibly well written with characters that are compelling and enough surprises to keep the most inciteful reader guessing. The investigation and the courtroom scenes are sprinkled with enough realism to to entice the reader while not bogging the prose with unnecessary detail. It is always exciting to find a great new book, but particularly so when the author is new as well. I can't wait to read Hoffman's next book.

(For anyone who has seen the few poor ratings you might want to note that these reviewers are unwilling to put their names to the unjust reviews they have written.)

Rating: 1 stars
Summary: Dreadful
Review: Believe the reviews that tell you this book is a waste of your money. The writing quality is poor. The plot is predictable when it isn't simply ridiculous. The characterization is thin. The heroine is poorly drawn, and what little you learn of her is unworthy of admiration.

Take a miss.

Summary: Great story.....author's first book!
Review: Loved this book! Got the title from the Word of Mouth entries in bookreporter.com. The story has so many twists and turns which all just kept me reading. It is graphic in the details of the assaults on women, but that didn't stop me. The author shows her knowledge of the court system and trials, her experience as a district attorney was used well. The story is basically about trying to find out who is the serial rapist/murderer at large in Florida. The female attorney trying to solve and convict in this case has her own sad history which comes in to play during the story. I recommend this book highly, it will keep you guessing.

Summary: Worst book of the year.
Review: If you are tempted to buy this, do yourself a favor. Pick it up in a bookstore and read a few pages. You'll see that the earlier reviewers warning that this is a poorly written book are correct. I didn't listen to them and ordered it online. What a mistake! I'll never trust these reviews again, since they are probably written by friends.

That's great, but I need objectivity when buying a book. The writing is horrific, but not in the way the author intended.
