Rating: Summary: This book is an insight to the life of Theodore Roosevelt. Review: Mr. Morris goes into much detail about Teddy's life. From his early child hood, as he tries to 'build his body' until he recieves the presidency. The politics were helpful to understand some of the things that President Roosevelt did in his life. It's the best book I've ever read on Theodore Roosevelt.
Rating: Summary: Biography at its Finest Review: This is a very fine book. Morris has a gift for narrative and a keen eye for detail. He pierces the myth of TR and reveals a man far more complex and interesting than the legend. No sycophant, Morris explores TR's dark side and his self-creation as a rancher, hunter, historian and military leader. Each page crackles with TR's energy and Morris's insight--a radiant combination. Morris's ultimate achievement may be his success in making late 19th century New York Assembly politics seem fascinating to a late 20th century reader. Like many other readers, my only disappointment is that Morris has yet to complete a sequel. Perhaps he is preoccupied with his biography of Ronald Reagan--which I look forward to with interest.
Rating: Summary: A fascinating tale about a "bigger than life" hero! Review: My knowledge of TR was limited at best before reading Mr. Morris's book. I was amazed at the iron will and determination displayed throughout Roosevelt's youth, college years, western adventures and New York and Washington political battles. Amazingly the accomplishments and setbacks of his "early years" were followed by the Rough Riders and the Presidency. A thorough study of a truly exempliary man...Bully!
Rating: Summary: Opens your eyes to history! Review: This is an inspiring work about an incorruptible political figure. It is such a relief to know that such men exist after reading other presidential biographies, such as Caro's L.B.J. My grandfather was 14 years old when Teddy Roosevelt charged up San Juan Hill. (Later, as a Bull Moose party delegate, he met the Man -- this book increased my envy ten fold.) Only after reading this book does one get a full picture of just how awe-inspiring this great leader must have been.
Rating: Summary: NO BETTER BIOGRAPHY Review: "The Rise of Theodore Roosevelt", which I'm reading for the second time, is as excellent a biography as has ever been written. Mr. Morris: where's the sequel? Please!
Rating: Summary: I've been waiting a long time to the sequel. Review: A remarkable story about a remarkable person. My only disappointment is that I have been waiting a very long time for the sequel. Ubi est?
Rating: Summary: Morris's masterpiece magical marvellous mesmerising Review: I have just discovered Amazon ! And with it a chance to tell you about one of the most inspiring and exciting books I've had the pleasure of reading, and rereading (twice). All the other reviewers are right : Teddy becomes a hero of awesome proportions. He is clearly one of the people from history I would most like to meet - in another life. Please Mr. Morris when will you write the sequel ? (i.e. the last years of his life ?). A book worth giving again and again.
Rating: Summary: Thoroughly engaging Review: Edmund Morris' work on Theodore Roosevelt is one of the most engaging that I have read. When I first picked the book up to read it, I (like others) wondered if I could finish it within a year. I read it in a week! Although I knew some things about Theodore Roosevelt, I wanted to become more familiar with this, one of our three greatest presidents. After reading Morris' work, Theodore Roosevelt solidly became a personal hero, one after whom to take. Morris' work became a springboard for me to study further the life of Roosevelt--indeed, his work became a standard from which I have judged all other works on Roosevelt that I have read
Rating: Summary: Bully for Teddy Rosevelt! Review: This is a remarkable acheivement like no other
biography. If you no nothing of Teddy Roosevelt -
read this book. If you love an action-packed
adventure story - read this book.
If you love a political thriller - read this book.
If you love a love story - read this book.
Rating: Summary: Colossally cool!!! Review: Although I normally confine myself to much lighter reading, this book caught my attention and held my interest throughout. I especially liked the tales of young Roosevelt and his dramatic impact on the New York legislature. The book was highly informative, a page turner. The story of Roosevelt's escapades with General Wheeler in Cuba was a coincidence for me in that I recently read two other generations of Wheelers in other books, and I also recently visited Alabama on business where stands a memorial to Gen'l Wheeler. Any way Roosevelt is great!!
