Summary: How do you do it, Judith?
Review: I read this years ago, because the title just fractured me. I always have a copy nearby, to soothe my jangled nerves when I've had a terrible, horrible, etc. etc. etc. (Adults definitely have these days, too, you know!)

I volunteer to help first graders read at a school nearby and they love to have this book read to them. It cheers them up to know they're not alone, and whenever we're feeling grumpy, we just have to say "I'm having a terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day," and a smile, even a tiny one, starts to appear.

Thank you Judith, for this book. I'll treasure and share it always.

Summary: Not just for little kids!
Review: I am a teacher and I read this book to my 5th and 6th grade classes each year when I have had a horrible day myself. We all get a very good laugh because we ALL have days like Alexander, from getting squished in the car, to "accidently" calling Australia (his dad prefers that they don't pick him up at the office anymore). Each kid gets a big kick from Alexander's comment that there is "kissing on television, and I hate kissing." We even make our own very bad day books when necessary. This is a must read for teachers and parents of kids of any age!

Summary: Wonderfully Funny
Review: Every child experiences a bad day, so any child will love this book. The text being repeated over and over is good for the child just learning to read. The illustrations are very detailed and the reader gets a wonderful image of the character through illustration and conversation. This is a totally awesome book.

Summary: Marvelous, Wonderful, No Fault, Very Good Book!
Review: Though I wouldn't necessarily admit this to anyone over about 3 feet tall, I must say this is my all time favorite book bar none. I read it as a child and found myself instantly relating to Alexander and distinctly remember feeling pleased that someone...anyone...else had the capacity to blow a day full of minor irratations out of proportion so dramatically. Now, as a preschool teacher I love it yet more because not only do the children have terrible, horrible, no good, very bad days, but when they do, so too do I. I find myself reading the book out loud with so much drama and emphasis that it is emensely cathartic for all of us! I adore this book and firmly believe that every human on the planet would benefit from dramatic readings of it from time to time.

Summary: a wonderful book for kids
Review: _Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Day_ is a truly wonderful book for children. I remember vividly my mother reading me Alexander's story when I was a child, and the mere mention of the book still sends me into frenzies of adulation, even though I am in my twenties, in grad school, and paid to read "adult" books (none of which top Alexander). The story is simple--Alexander's day is not very good--but it is one that children can understand and extend into their own experiences. Such books are great for kids because it helps them to look beyond themselves, to recognize that other people have experiences like theirs, which is what good stories usually do. And this story is a great one!

Summary: The best book to read for a bedtime story!
Review: If you read a bedtime story to a small child, this is the best one to read! You can make your voice really whiney and have a lot of fun with it!

Summary: Wonderful Book.
Review: I ordered this book for my children's christmas, and they fell in love with it. It is a fun book which teaches children that everyone can have a bad day even in Austrilla. Great. Read this as a child and now I can pass it on to my children. A must read book.

Summary: A must-own for any adult or child
Review: I wonder if Viorst didn't follow me around as a child as her "study" for this book. What she describes in this fabulous story about poor Alexander was right out of my own childhood! I still never get the window seat.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Wonderful Story
Review: This is a great book! Judith Viorst wrote a terrific book that shows the types of bad days children experience. The book teaches children that sometimes things don't go their way but you have to deal with. They can't move to Australia to try and escape their problems. A very comical book that appeals to anybody of any age on a terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Outstanding childrens book for kids of all ages
Review: I first read this book to my four children in the mid 70's. It became a well read favorite. Whenever things went wrong in their day, we would remind each other that some days are like that, even in Australia. It became our own inside joke. This year I am purchasing the book for my Grandchildren for Christmas 1999. I'm sure It will be a favorite for another generation, as my own children pass on the story of Alexander and his bad day to their children. This book is a treasure.
