Rating: Summary: The Kid loves it! Review: We received a copy of this book as a gift, and I was surprised to see how much my three-year old daughter loves this book. In fact, we now have two copies - one for home and one to share with her friends at school. I think she likes the book because she both empathizes with Alexander's trials (we have lots of discussions in the bathroom about wet sweaters and visits to the dentist) but also sees the humor in the situations.
Rating: Summary: We all have days like this. Review: This wonderful little book details the trials and tribulations of Alexander on a bad hair day. Bad hair day, literally, because he went th sleep the night before with gum in his mouth and woke up with it stuck in his hair. Things went straight downhill after that inauspicious beginning, and he drags himself reluctantly from one minor disaster to another: the middle seat in the car, only white sneakers in his size, no dessert in his lunch. We all have days like this, as Alexander's mother tries to tell him; it's just nice to have some company when you're miserable, when your stars are out of alignment, when your biorhythms have the jitters, when your karmic debt seems to be calling. Buy it for your kid; read it for yourself.
Rating: Summary: a book I would never turn down Review: There really not much to say. I have read that book a thousand times. It not only relates to children but it relates to any age because I know there is not one person who has a Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day because everybody has. Even I have. I bought this book because this is a book I would like to read to my future kids and in the classroom as a teacher because kids well reliase that everyone has a bad day. I would highly reccomend this book for any loving family or teacher that is just getting started and doesn't know what book to pick out. So in three words Get the Book.
Rating: Summary: Mamma said they'll be days like this. Review: A great book to read to your child. Everyone can relate to a bad day, and it's good for kids to hear that "some days are just like that." Funny and fun to read -- even over and over.
Rating: Summary: Yep, I've had days like this! Review: Alexander is having just one of those awful, awful days. It's a very funny story, and I like to read this whenever one of my kids is just having "one of those days." They love it, I love it.
Rating: Summary: Alexander Review: Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day is a humorously and well written book. Judith Viorst took a little from every 9 year olds worst day and yet made it fun to read. The book was a delightful story to read and I would recommend it to anyone to read. I think that everyone has a little Alexander in themselves and can put sunshine into a cloudy day.
Rating: Summary: CUTE Review: I JUST checked this book out from our local library, and I LOVE it! I am going to buy it! It is a great book to read to all kids, but especially to kids who might need some encouragement to share their feelings or who tend to hold feelings in. It is a cool book because it isn't torture for the parents to read.
Rating: Summary: When You're Blue Review: My mom used to read me this book all of the time when I was little. Now, I use it as a way to cheer up my "terrible, horrible, no good, very bad days." I have to smile, and then things aren't really so very bad after all. I would say this is a book that should be included in every personal library, no matter what your age.
Rating: Summary: Some books are timeless Review: And Judith Viorst has created one of them. I didn't know who the author was until just today but Alexander and the terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day has been my all time favorite book since I can remember. Of course to all my adult friends, I would rather die than admit it. Even today, when I am having just one of those awful days, I tell people I am having an "Alexander" day. I think it also developed my love for poetry. You hear all the time how it is important for kids to read, but it is just a cliche, it has lost all meaning. It is when you stop and think about authors like Judith Viorst or Dr. Seuss and how I know for myself it wasn't for them, I wouldn't have such a deep love for the written word and its magic it brings that you see its true value. Alexander is a classic, just as much as Moby Dick or Oliver Twist and everyone with a sense of whimsy (and especially those without it) need to read it. I was reading another book Mrs. Viorst wrote and when I found out she wrote my beloved Alexander book, my face lit up. That's the power of Alexander, he makes 33 year old women's faces light up as they recall his tale of plight. (And a note to Alexander: I talked to my cousins in Australia, and your mother was right, they do have those kind of days there too. LOL)
Rating: Summary: I admit it - I really bought it for me. Review: I used to read this book ALL the time as a kid. I came across it here and had to get it for my 3 yr old. She likes the book and asks me to read it to her often and Mom has no problem obliging with this one!
