Rating: Summary: Great execution, poor ending Review: I agree with most of the good and bad aspects of this novel that I have read in other reviews. I'm a fan, having read every Bosch novel except the first. This one is not better than Concrete Blonde or The Last Coyote. The ending was contrived. Certain skills of the killer are constantly mentioned in the text, as if to foreshadow what will be a very interesting confrontation at the end. These allusions are not realized. Had they been, this would have been a 5 star novel.
Rating: Summary: A master of modern LA suspense Review: Connelly is an excellent genre writer, and Angels Flight is among the best of the mystery genre (let alone the thrilling Harry Bosch series). The author captures modern Los Angeles in a way I can only imagine it to be, as vividly and with as much elan as Chandler. He's a master of modern LA suspense.
Rating: Summary: Outstanding job Review: I've read all of the Bosch books, and this may be the best yet. The pacing and plot construction are near perfect, featuring Connelly's typically authentic dialogue and character portrayals. The mystery is as convoluted but ultimately plausible as always. Connelly drops hints early and often (including plenty of red herrings), but he doesn't just hand you the solution. I've never had much luck cracking these, though I'm invariably forced to admit that he's given us the means to reason it out, usually in the most seemingly tangential details. Angels Flight is another great effort by a master detective writer.
Rating: Summary: Hard-boiled detecting at its best. Review: Black activist attorney Howard Elias is murdered on the LA trolley named Angel's Flight. Elias has made a career of suing LAPD officers so the suspect list is as large as the LAPD itself. As the LA streets threaten to erupt in another riot, Harry Bosch is forced to look at his fellow officers for the killer. Harry's former partner is the number one suspect, but Harry follows the trail outside the department to a pedophile ring. But will he be able to prove his friend is innocent?Another good Harry Bosch novel. The characters are all well-drawn and believable, the plot is well-crafted, the ending is poetic justice, and the writing is flawless. What more could you ask for in a mystery? Highly recommended.
Rating: Summary: Bring on Bosch! Review: This fast paced story is another winner from Michael Connelly. Typical intriguing Bosch! This story also brings to light the problem of too much political correctness in todays society and how it could unintentionally alter the path of justice. Harry Bosch walks his own path to ensure justice is done. As always Michael Connelly doesn't let you down, after reading this you will appreciate his style and ability, and intricacies of developing his character with each new book.
Rating: Summary: Connelly Doesn't Disappoint Review: Angel's Flight is another step-up for Michael Connelly. The book doesn't break new ground, but it certainly entertains and ends with a bang. The plot follows Connelly's double climax formula that can sometimes cause me to loose interest, but this time I was in the dark until the last forty pages. Connelly is one of the top three working in the genre today, and as a fan I've come to expect a lot of him, he doesn't disappoint. Hey Michael, how about teaming up Harry Bosch and Terry McCaleb? Might be interesting.
Rating: Summary: Another Great Bosch Mystery Review: I really liked this one. It's fast-paced and entertaining. I think he's setting Bosch up for a sequel, though, as I did not get the feeling that all of the loose ends were tied up - especially with respect to the conspiracy. There have got to be more players involved... I'm anxiously awaiting the next book to see if it answers my questions.
Rating: Summary: Really good book Review: I liked this book a lot. I liked its sense of "growing danger all around" that the author gave to the story, and I consider M. Connelly to be better than most of the contemporary writers. His books have a soul that many of today's books don't have, and Harry Bosch... I like him because he's not perfect, he's a very realistic hero. Something odd: when I finished the book, I felt like I wasn't completely sure if Harry was right in his conclusions about the case...
Rating: Summary: Angel's Flight is A Rollercoaster Ride in LA Review: Another Harry Bosch novel involves us in this unusual detective who manages to perserve his essential goodness despite everything the author, Michael Connelly, can throw at him. In this novel it includes a bored wife, bad cops, horrible crimes and even greater temptations. Bosch rises above all and we rush to finsh, turning pages with frantic energy. Dialogue is sharp and the pace is great. Very satisfying.
Rating: Summary: ANOTHER CONNELLY THRILLER! Review: AFTER READING THE POET I HAD TO GRAB ANOTHER CONNELLY NOVEL AND THE REVIEWS I READ CONCERNING ANGEL'S FLIGHT INTERESTED ME. THE REVIEWERS DID NOT DISAPPOINT. I WAS VERY IMPRESSED WITH THE TWISTS AND TURNS OF THE PLOT AND I NOW CAN OFFICIALLY CALL MYSELF A CONNELLY FAN. MANY REVIEWERS HAVE COMPLAINED ABOUT THE CONCLUSION, BUT DON'T ALLOW THEIR CRITICISIM TO GET IN THE WAY OF YOU PURCHASING THIS BOOK. YOU WON'T BE DISAPPOINTED.
