Rating: Summary: A Revelation of the Holy Eucharist! Review: Dr. Hahn has done it again! With his usual cheeky section titles (I won't spoil the surprise) and his intense scholarship, he explains the Book of Revelation and the Mass, and somehow ties it all together. Check pp. 119-120 for a real eye-opener. Whether you are a Bible scholar or just a Bible believer, this is a book that belongs on your bookshelf. (It's hard to believe that the book is only 174 pp. including endnotes!)
Rating: Summary: Fantastic! Dr. Hahn does it again. Review: What a delightful, wonderful, interesting, thought-provoking, and inspiring book this one is. Evangelical Biblical scholars have pondered the meaning of John's Book of Revelation for a long time. For too many, they read it as the "end times." Dr. Hahn did the same thing, as a Presbyterian minister. It wasn't until he became Catholic that he began to see Revelations as a blueprint for the Mass. Hahn demonstrates how Revelation gives us a glimpse of Heaven and of Mass. The premise of the book is that Mass itself is a little slice of Heaven on Earth. What Hahn offers is not something new. This is what the Church has taught for centuries. Yet, Hahn presents it as only he can. Hahn offers not only a beautiful view of Revelation, but also of Mass. It is a view that too few Catholics take to heart. Not only is this a simply delightful book, but it's also a short book - one that could easily be read in one sitting. I highly recommend it. Catholics will gain a new appreciation for Mass and all that they have taken for granted. Non-Catholics will appreciate an alternative view of The Book of Revelation.
Rating: Summary: A Calvinist who loved it! Review: I just finished Hahn's new book 'The Lamb's Supper: The Mass as Heaven on Earth'. I thought I was in a special camp since I considered historic liturgy to be the key to understanding Revelation, but I was suprised to find that it is historic catholic teaching. Scott Hahn was a calvinistic presybterian who went to Gordon-Conwell TS but later converted to Rome. I read his first book (Rome Sweet Home) and thought it was stupid. But this one is really good. He gives the best explanation of Revelation I have yet to read. Revelation is a book containing presbyters in vestments, altars, incense, saints in heaven interceding for saints on earth, hidden manna, sacrifice, chalices, a wedding feast, food imagery, liturgical formulas, judgement, angels, martyrs, and all this in the context of our glorious Lord Jesus Christ and His parousia. Sounds a little 'Romish' doesn't it? I found it very illuminating and enjoyable. I was not convinced by Hahn's Catholicism by 'Rome Sweet Home', but this one is much more tempting. As a Protestant, this book scares me.
Rating: Summary: Heaven on Earth Review: I have found this book to be a great blessing to my life! The Writer has captured the essence of the Ancient Christian Faith and understanding and has presented it a a very reverent and concise manner. In my humble opinion, every Clergyman should have a copy of this book, and every layperson as well.
Rating: Summary: A wonderful book Review: I am a cradle Catholic, but I never fully understood the Mass until I read this marvelous book. With great care and documentation from Scripture and the early church fathers,Mr.Hahn reminds us all of the elegant simplicity and depthless beauty of the Catholic faith and our sacred Liturgy. I recommend this book highly to anyone.
Rating: Summary: A Very Interesting Book Review: Scott Hahn does an outstanding job in this book. In looking at the Mass from the perspective of the Apocalypse, Hahn makes the Mass more understandable.
Rating: Summary: A book every Christian should read Review: Scott Hahn's book, "The Lamb's Supper", is definitely a book that should be read by every Christian. First of all, he takes us back to our Jewish roots, always important for Christians to remember. Then, he relates how the Last Supper Eucharistic experience, the subsequent Passion, Death and Resurrection of Jesus, and the living out of the Christian Way of Life is all wrapped up in both the Holy Mass and the Book of Revelation. Heaven on earth--to me it's like a funnel, with all of heaven and all eternity funnelled through to the point in time of the Consecration. Dr. Hahn's book is easy to read, with witty section titles and with concepts simply presented. And, what to do when bored or distracted? Our task is to focus, to be more present in the moment, to respond more heartily, to attend to these mysteries aware that all heaven does so. This is very much in agreement with the "little way" of St. Therese of Lisieux. Thank you, Dr. Hahn!
Rating: Summary: Wonderful Review: Scott Hahn gives a wonderful view of how the Book of Revelations relates to the Mass. In fact, it become quite apparent that you miss the entire point of book of Revelations if you don't know how the early Christians celebrated the Mass.
Rating: Summary: Finally -- clarity to the Book of Revelations Review: Being raised an Evangelical/Charismatic, of course I was taught that Revelations only related to the end of the world. This book clearly presents the historical, Christian understanding of Revelations that was understood from the earliest days of the Church. Our modern society has forgotten the knowledge of the past. Dr. Hahn uses his distinct style to help us read Revelation as a first century Jewish-Christian. A fantastic book for anyone who has ever been puzzled by this most puzzling Book of the Bible.
Rating: Summary: Rediscovering John's Apocolypse Review: An absolute Christian Classic. A great book for Catholics, Orthodox, and Protestants alike. Hopefully this book will at last put to rest some of the contrived twentieth century interpretations of the book of Revelation. Since reading it, the Mass has become ever more powerful to me. I--unlike many Catholics--knew some of what Hahn presents concerning the Mass. However, the book was an enriching experience that really hit home the power of the Lord's presence (parousia) in the Blessed Sacrament.
