Rating: Summary: Eeew. Review: Ooof. I had never read anything by this author before. For some reason I can't remember (probably a magazine review) I thought the plot sounded interesting, and since I was in the mood for a quick, juicy sort of read, I picked this title up. Mistake. I still believe the plot is interesting. UNFORTUNATELY the book is most uninteresting. Somehow MHC (as she's so fondly called on this site) has managed to make this book seem as though it was written by a nine-year-old. Sorry, all you MHC fans. Boring, tedious, predictable, no more MHC for me.
Rating: Summary: MHC Never Disappoints Review: I have read and collected all of the books by Mary Higgins Clark. She has a writing style that allows the reader to feel like one of the characters. It is easy to be caught up in the story line making it hard to put the book down. This book was no different. Mary Higgins Clark never disappoints! Excellent book highly recommended.
Rating: Summary: Thrills and Chills Review: "On the Street Where you Live" by Mary Higgins Clark is a thrilling novel which takes the reader through a heart stopping mystery centered in the sunny little town of Spring Lake, New Jersey. The novel begins when the main character, Emily Graham, moves from Albany, New York to Spring Lake, New Jersey. Ms. Graham buys a beautiful, old, Victorian home which was owned by her family for generations till a century earlier her grant aunt, Madaline, was murdered. Mrs. Clark is a master of mystery. She vividly paints scenes through imagery and flashbacks. Her plot is suspenseful and a true thriller. The reader is shocked when all of Ms. Graham's good fortune takes a turn for the worse, and she finds herself in the midst of danger and the mystery of five unsolved murders. This is a great novel and you will definitely want to shut your windows and lock your doors after finishing the book. You will not be able to put it down.
Rating: Summary: Hard to put down Review: This, to me, is the BEST one M H Clark has written in a while. I read this book in one day, withour skipping a thing. I was unable to figure out who the killer was till the end, so it keeps you guessing. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes reading a #1 edge of your seat mystery!!
Rating: Summary: Better than average Review: This book has so much to recommend it. It's got pacing, a stunning plot, and it's decently crafted. The writing itself, though lackluster in style, was clear. However, the characters are so pat and there is absolutely no humor here which might have added comic relief as well as more dimension to the tone. There are also too many characters, and an ending that barely ties up the loose ends. I also figured out the killer much too quickly, which may be because I'm also a novelist. This was my first try at a MHC book, and on the positive side, I will try another example of her writing to give her a second chance.
Rating: Summary: Suspense Truely Hits Home Review: Mary Higgins Clark has written many suspense novels and this one stands with her best. She constructs the plot very well. If you've liked her books in the past, On The Street Where You Live, is definitely for you. The novel is set in Spring Lake, New Jersey; a quite little seaside town. Emily Graham has just bought an old victorian home which once was owned by her family. Only to discover that the body of a missing girl has been found in her backyard along with the body of Emily's missing relative, Madeline Shapley. Emily is determined to find out who is at the bottom of these murders; even if it means risking her own life. The plot unfolds in a furver of murders and twists and the conclusion will shock you. If you are a fan of suspense novels I suggest you buy this book.
Rating: Summary: On the Street Where You Live. Review: I was literally glued to this book. The intrigue and the author's weaving of this unusual story kept me up at night.
Rating: Summary: A riveting tale of death that won't stay dead. Review: Mary Higgins Clark's newest sensation is sure to be a giant hit in the murder and suspense hall of fame. Emily Graham, a criminal defense attorney turned multi-millionaire through a wise investment decision, feels compelled to purchase her ancestral home, a rambling but renovated old Victorian in the balmy town of Spring Lake, New Jersey. Emily has just survived a painful and ugly divorce, and the unwanted and frightening advances of a stalker, so the old home may be just what she needs to restore her sense of peace. It was not meant to be. Soon after Emily moves into her quiet place of refuge, and while the swimming pool foundation is yet being dug in the backyard, a human skeleton is unearthed. From trustworthy old souls to small town gossip mongers, each character is welcomed into the story that follows with backgrounds and skeletons of their own you won't soon forget. The story kept me guessing to the very end, and it may just have you believing in ghosts again.
Rating: Summary: Outstanding reading Review: Mary Higgins Clark takes her readers for a trip into the minds of mysteries. On The Street Where You Live, presents parallel murders committed 100 years apart. The curious reader will try to desipher how the comparisons of these past murders with the present ones fit together. I loved her main character who finds living in her great-grand-aunts home in Spring Lake the entrance to this mystery. She reveals to us how her great grand aunts older sister sat on the same porch she now sits on and suddenly disappeared never to be heard from again. That is until they begin to dig up her backyard for a pool and low a behold are great grand aunt is discovered. Along with someone else. This book grabs you into this murderess mystery and makes sure you won't stop reading until the 1890 and 1990's come together. I think you will enjoy it, as I did. I plan to read other novels by her.
Rating: Summary: Declining Review: The first book i read by MHC was Weep No More my Lady. Since then I feel her work has not been up to the standard set by her earlier books. This book was much better than Silent Night, but I feel she did not fully develop some characters and she winds up the story too fast. What was the point of the stalker and the murderer? What happens to Eric in the end?
