Rating: Summary: On The Street where you live review Review: On The Street Where You Live is another classic by Mary Higgins Clark. Once again she is able to keep you on the edge of your seat, unable to set the book down. The main character is Emily Graham, an attorney, who made a fortune when she sold some stock given to her by an old friend. She bought a Victorian house in Spring Lake that once belonged to her family in 1892. In doing so she hoped to ease her mind on the troubles she'd been having over a recent divorce, as well as shake a stalker who thinks she wrongfully defended a guilty man. However, Emily can do anything but relax as a dead body is revealed in her new back yard when workmen excavate to install a pool. The body is of Martha Lawrence, a young girl who'd disappeared about four years earlier. Even more chilling, Martha clutched the finger of Madeline Shapley, a women who had disappeared exactly 105 years before Martha Lawrence. Very quickly, four other murders are connected. Each victim was a beautiful young woman who just disappeared. The chilling part: two were in the 1890's, and two happened in the past few years... But on the same exact dates. Is it a Copycat, or re-incarnated serial killer? The story gets more complex as it unfolds into a race of time, before the murderer can strike again. I really enjoyed this book, although I think the author could have given a little more background detail. The plot was very exciting and intriguing, but I think I would have liked to know a little more about the characters and their backgrounds. I would recommend it to anyone who likes mysteries. It isn't too gory, Clark has mastered the fine line between describing what happened vividly and grossing you out. I give it five stars. It was the first book that has caught my attention in a long time.
Rating: Summary: On the street where you live... Review: I am not a very avid reader, but while on vacation i was in a store and saw this book and thought that it looked interesting. I started to read it and it was hard to put down. I would tell my self "ok just one more chapter" but then by the end i would want to keep reading to find out what happened next. I usually ended up reading right until i fell asleep, sometimes with the book on my chest. I recommend this book to anyone who likes to read thrillers, its not scary or anything, it is just one of those books that keeps you guessing and wanting to continue.
Rating: Summary: Great Historical Suspense Review: ON THE STREET WHERE YOU LIVE AUTHOR: Mary Higgins Clark PUBLISHER: Simon & Schuster REVIEWED BY: Barbara RhoadesBOOK REVIEW: Emily Graham is an attorney in the midst of changing jobs. She has bought her ancestral home in New Jersey. The former owners were installing a pool. Emily really doesn't want it but feels it will be a place for fun when her brothers and families come to visit. During the digging, a grave is found of a young woman missing for four years. In her hand, an heirloom of Emily's ancestor is found - a Shapley family ring. This ring turns out to belong to Madeline Shapley, Emily's ancestor who was also missing over 100 years ago. Emily has recently been a victim of a stalker who is in jail. A friend installed cameras in her house and the police were able to catch the stalker. Now with the grave being found in her own backyard, Emily is understandably upset all over again. Between the New Jersey police, a lawyer who helped her close on her house, the former police on the stalker case, her friend who installed the cameras and her soon to be new employer, Emily believes she has all the help she needs. In trying to figure out the history of the missing victims, Emily puts herself square in the middle of the problem. This is a wonderful story full of history, family ties and long forgotten secrets. It was a hard book to stop listening to until the surprise ending.

Rating: Summary: My First MHC Novel but Certainly not my last. Review: This was the first Mary Higgins Clark novel I have read and since then, I have read nine other novels by her. But over all ON THE STREET WHERE YOU LIVE was my number two pick. WHERE ARE THE CHILDREN? (Her first novel) was my favorite. DADDY"S LITTLE GIRL was third. ON THE STREET WHERE YOU LIVE is a very chilling tale and the ending is very shocking! The last sentence totally freaked me out. This is a read worth reading!
Rating: Summary: Chilling....... Review: If you have read and enjoyed other MHC thrillers, you will certainly be unable to put this one down. I liked that this had a supernatural theme and introduced the idea of reincarnation to the mystery. Like her other novels this one has a young, strong female protagonist, lots of characters (almost too many), and moments of suspense. I actually found some of the "cliff hangers" which end many chapters made me gasp out loud. I have read all of the other mysteries and found this one deliciously spooky and suspenseful. The last line alone sent chills down my spine. I actually solved this one and enjoyed watching the mystery unfold! Curl up with this- just not alone!
Rating: Summary: On The Street Where You Live Review: Mary Higgins Clark writes an okay story around a really excellent plot. She works too hard at making you wonder who the villan is, and all her work was for naught, because I had it figured out by the 4th chapter. Had she just written more in depth caracters, the story would have been more intense, and therefore more enjoyable to read.
Rating: Summary: You might not want to read this one at night... Review: In this spooky mystery, defense attorney Emily Graham finds more than she bargained for when she bought her ancestral home in the small resort town of Spring Lake, New Jersey. Instead of a feeling of comfort and coming home, she is faced with skeletons in her backyard and the return of a stalker thought vanquished to the state mental institution. Not exactly the relaxing situation for which Graham had been hoping. Mary Higgins Clark strikes again with another spooky mystery that will have you checking the locks on the doors and leaving the lights on. There are so many twists and turns, so many seemingly random characters that pop up when you least expect them, that the reader will be left guessing until the final pages. Well worth reading.
Rating: Summary: A Proven Formula That Works Like A Charm! Review: New York attorney Emily Graham, a successful criminal lawyer who is in between jobs, purchases her beautiful ancestral home in the resort town of Spring Lake, New Jersey. Once she settles in to what appears to be a less stressful lifestyle, she begins to receive disturbing messages from an anonymous stalker. Soon thereafter, she discovers the remains of Martha Lawrence, a local resident who disappeared four years ago. Buried with Martha's remains is the finger bone of another woman, bearing a beautiful (and familiar) sapphire ring. The other woman is later identified as Madeline Shapley, Emily's ancestor, who vanished on the same day as Martha, 110 years earlier. Soon local law enforcement believe there is an "anniversary killer" on the loose and become alarmed when they realize there is another anniversary approaching within one week. Now they must predict who the next intended victim will be, and if the killer is a copycat or perhaps even a reincarnation. Either way, they now have less than 7 days to catch the killer before he/she strikes again. Emily begins her own informal investigation which leads her head on into the killer's trap. With a vivid cast of characters and a solidly executed plot, Mary Higgins Clark has crafted yet another suspenseful yarn sure to leave one breathlessly turning page after page into the wee hours of the night. Devoid of any surprises, and yes, a bit more predictable than I would like to admit, this is an entertaining summer beach read which left me quite satisfied and eager for more. Only a master plotter like MHC can reinvent a formula manuscript one million times and still leave you eagerly anticipating her next installment. 4 stars. Minus one for its predictability.
Rating: Summary: Very good; chilling ending! Review: I found this book to be very good. Not her best, but very good. For me, the beginning was a little slow, but once it started to pick up, it was wonderful. I will agree with the earlier comment that a little too much focus was on the policeman and not enough on Emily Graham. I will admit that I normally read the ending to see who the killer is, but I was very good this time and didn't. I was a little surprised by it, but at the same time, kind of suspected it. What really scared me was the last sentence in the book ~ do yourself a favor & DO NOT read the end because that sentence really freaked me out and made me kind of scared to go to bed (even after I triple checked the locks on the doors & windows)!!
