Rating: Summary: Great Read Review: This book was captivating and readable. I quickly got involved in the story and did not want to put it down. The only problem I had with it is that I figured out who the killer was ealier that normal in the story, and without any clues yet. She usually does a better job at keeping the murderer a secret until the end.
Rating: Summary: First time Mary Higgins Clark reader Review: Not having any past experience with this author, I found this book to be a very easy to read, enjoyable, well put toghether piece of mystery. Having "come" from the likes of Robert Ludlum, Tom Clancy, Ken Follett, Steven King, it was obvious to me that this writing style is not as "deep" and "challenging" as those referenced, but on the other hand, I found the book extremely fun to read. I have no idea what her previous books are like, or if they all are in the same "writing vein", but I sure do intend to try a couple more!
Rating: Summary: An Inferior Work by MHC Review: Mary Higgins Clark is really coasting with this book. It is a huge disappointment. Her characters are formuliac and poorly developed. As a big fan of hers, I find it a shame she's putting out such poor work. Next time I'll read the ratings first.
Rating: Summary: Her Best Work To Date Review: I am an avid fan of Mary Higgins Clark, and I find this to be the best novel she has written to date. Throughout the entirety of the book, she keeps you on the edge of your seat, always thinking you have it figured out until wham! not what you thought. An absolute keep-you-up-all-night-reading-under-the-covers-with-a-flashlight novel!!
Rating: Summary: Big disappointment Review: While usually predictable, Mary Higgins Clark's books are a fast, enjoyable read. This story re: reincarnation was slow moving, predictable and a huge disappointment. Hopefully, this is just an aberration and I look forward to her next book.
Rating: Summary: One of her best!!! Review: Mary Higgins Clark has done it again. This amazingly suspensful story is set in a small, quiet New Jersey sea side town and traces a murderer over a century-long killing spree. This book was a page-turner and had me looking nervously over my shoulder for weeks!! An excellent book! If you like Mary Higgins Clark, you will love this book--its one of her best. If you don't like her, you soon will!! I highly recommend!
Rating: Summary: My return to MHC Review: It has been some time since I have read a MHC book but this reminded me of the reasons why I love her work. The small town of Spring Lake experiences murders separated by over a century. When Emily Graham moves into her new home, the first body is found in her backyard along with the remains of a woman long since missing over a century ago. From this point, Emily takes charge to solve who murdered the woman, actually her ancestor, so many years ago. While investigating this murder she becomes involved with a vast array of characters which can both help and hinder her. Who is her friend and who wants to stop her? Soon another body is found and a serial killer is proclaimed to be on the loose. Will Emily be the next victim? Not only does Emily have to deal with the murders, but she must also deal with the fact that someone is stalking her in her new home. MHC gives us a whirlwind of story sending us on wild goose chases with her her many plot twists. It is not evident who the killer is until the end and you will be asking yourself whodunit all the way through the novel.
Rating: Summary: NOT HER BEST Review: I wish I would have [known more about] this book. I liked it, but then I have to agree with others that there were just too many characters in it. If you could read it in one sitting it would be easier.
Rating: Summary: Glad it was a quick read Review: This was the first book I have read by Mary Higgins Clark. The charactors are so thinly drawn that while reading this I kept thinking, "do I really care what happens here?" The answer at the end was a resounding "No". The book begins with an enticing plot. Three woman were killed in the town of Spring Lake in the 1890's. 110 yrs later a woman is found buried in the backyard of Emily Graham's new home. She just moved there after landing a position in a law firm in Manhattan. The body is found just as she moves into her new home. It is also found with the finger of one of the victims from over a Century ago. It is believed that the suspect may be the reincarnation of the killer from that time. At this point Ms. Graham plays the role of investigator that sort of reminded me of Angela Landsbury and her show "Murder She Wrote." I didn't like the show and I really didn't enjoy this novel very much. Not only are the charactors generic nobody's but there are just too many possible suspects. Not that it is all that hard to figure out the guilty party but we are introduced to so many extras that once again left me thinking "who cares." I think it would have been a much better effort if Ms. Clark spent less time introducing such forgetable charactors and put more effort into strengthening what charactors are necessary.
Rating: Summary: A Bit Disappointing Review: I anticipate new releases by Mary Higgins Clark. This one was quite disappointing to me. The idea was great; however, I felt there were too many characters to keep up with and none of them were very well developed. In fact, I lost site of who the main characters really were. Of course, I'll continue to anticipate the next release and hope this book was like a cake without the frosting.
